Sennheiser stuff is generally overrated and over priced. The PC350 and its ilk are actually really bad for their price. The PC131 are actually pretty decent for their price, they don't sound good, but for their price they definitely sound decent, and compare quite decently with the competition at the same price.

Senns get recommended a lot by people who bought themselves a Senn based on word of mouth, and haven't actually listened to the competition. Then they go and recommend them to people on forums, and the chain continues.

HD580's are good. I like the HD25's, not because they sound that good, but because they are sturdy as hell and very practical for many applications. The HD201's are great cheap headphones. Beyond that I think Senns are generally pretty poor value.

As for recommendations, if you are fine with getting a separate mic then Sure SRH440 and Audio Technica AD700's would be my top picks for fairly cheap headphones. If you must have a mic included then PC131 is adequate. If you want a mic without concern for cost, Sennheiser HDM-25 is a good choice, as a bonus it is what tastosis use on GSL. My choice for gaming headset would have to be the Beyerdynamic DT290 though, indestructible and excellent sound quality.

Well its quite certain that if you dont want an expensive one, you wont get a "good" one. Ofc "good" is relative so it would be good if u posted your original headset and if you want something better or not.

I have sennheiser HD 380, 120 Euro, and they are the best i had till today, but i bet if i went for HD800, it would be better...

Your best bet is to go to a store where you can try them then decide what are you willing to pay for.

The pressure is for me 2 low (if u slightly press the headphones you hear that "reverberation bass effect" that i kinda like someitmes), but are really comftable.
I normally get really angry at those that make my ears sweat, since i use them a lot.

Ive had some panasonic, sony, technics and pioner (all around 50 Euros) and they all sounded very nicely, but the quality normally went out the window when you turned up the volume.

In the HD 380, the quality is good enought so that the volume never really sounds irritating, untill you take them off and note that for some reason u enjoy silence.

After checking other sennheisers (cx-100 and HD201), i can say that the price is definitly worth it if you like good quality sounds.

If you really want to get "gaming headset" instead of headphones go for PC350 if you got money. Beats those Razer's crap headset easily. If you dont want to spend that much money for headset just buy Siberia v2.

I have been using Steelseries 5H for almost a year until my cat destryed it.
Far the best headset ill ever used.
Atm im using Sennheiser PC 350 but they are giving me headaches and are very unconfortable.

I would recommend Steelseris 5H. at my local store they are quite cheap (60 euros) for a what I think is a great pair of headset.

So far I think I should keep my Siberia v2. It seems like there is no better headset for gaming in this price class.

And about the 5H I only heard that the bass is really bad.

Have seen many people say the Logitect G35 is a good headset.

DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM.

Currently have one it is cracked along the lower part of the headset attachment that sits just above your ears the pads are torn and heavily frayed. The cord is beyond fucked. So coiled that it has nearly snapped off at the top of the headset.

I did not coil my headset cable it did this by itself. This could be classified as wear and tear but I really expect better from logitech.

On the case of sound and mic quality. Sound is decent I don't really know too much about sound quality but its sounds fine can get quite loud without heavy distortion. The mic is decent quality quite clear but I guess most are these days.

i'm an audio engineer,

now assuming youre looking for something with a mic i'd go with one of the gaming companies headsets (steelseries/razer/logitech/turtle beach etc)

if you arent looking for a mic then you have two choices whether or not you want true HD audio (going with something more audiophile like AKG, Audiotechnica, etc) or something just consumer level (sony/dre's etc etc)

i play with my AudioTechnica M50's.. i dont need a mic cause i dont talk to people when i play, and well they're the headphones i use to check my mixes on, but thats about other stuff :D

A friend of mine owns the G35 and his one is really fucked up in case of mic quality.

But the sound quality was decent the one time I had it on my head. But it's very costly for the complexity of the headset.

Beats by Dr Dre is a joke... my $130 wireless headset has better sound quality plus surround sound. The best gaming headset out there is the Astro A40

You best bet for overall quality is getting a nice pair of headphones (My HD555's are fantastic for the price- $80 on Amazon), and pairing it with a $10 Zalman clip-on mic. The mic is crystal clear, and the Sennheisers are a kick-ass all-purpose headphone..though they are open, so they aren't good for library usage.

My advice is to go get a pair of real headphones (AT-AD700, Shure SRH-440, AT-M50) and attach a Zalman clip on mic.

Or if you want to get some overpriced, poor quality gamer gear you can do that too. There really aren't many good low cost headsets. Most companies make headset versions of higher end headphones which are fantastic. Like the headset versions of the Sennhesier HD-25, Beyerdynamic DT150 or DT250 etc etc

But my pick for cheap headsets is the Beyerdynamic DT234Pro.
