Great guide! Thank you very much!

I was using an audio work around, Virtual Audio Cable, due to my not being able to find the stereo mix (mine was disabled), prior to looking at this guide. Now I don't have to, so thanks for pointing that out!

My stream works fine when i dont have the game full screen. my friend can hear and see what im doing over ustream.

when i maximize the game flash media live encoder gives this error: Problem with capture device, incorrrect samples given by the device. stopped encoding session.

Can anyone tell me what im doing wrong?

Thanks

Exactly what happened to me, I guess the 64bit version is buggy

The only thing that I can think of is switching your starcraft game to "Windowed (fullscreen)" mode. This way your video will never have to switch resolutions and streaming will be flawless in the transition.

Wow, this tutorial was great! I'll be streaming in no time! Thanks so much for the guide!

I just have one question: Is there any way to set FMLE to 1680x1050 resolution? FMLE has options for 1280x1080 and 1920x1080 but nothing in between...

i don't think there is a way, i really hope there is..my res is at 1280x1024 ;_;

other than that it's a freaking amazing tutorial, i put it to use today and it streamed really well in HD without any lag; whereas livestream's been giving me low bandwidth "errors" when i stream even at normal quality. i have 2mb up, 10ms ping and a really good computer so i know it's not my end -_-.

ty for this sexy stream~ ^^

oh yeah and the 64bit version of VH is buggy, i have 64bit win7 and it didn't work for me; changed to 32bit and it works fine ~

Yeah, I'm thinking I might have to bump my res down to 1280 x 1024 and just select the FMLE option for 1280x1080

So ive been getting a lot of random flashing using VH screen capture x64. What are some of the programs I could "purchase" that would work better?

Your welcome... it's the least I could do to give back to all the wonderful streamers out there already.

I don't have an answer for you unfortunately, my native resolution is 1920x1080 and never had to change it.

Any system that isn't totally junk can stream, just keep screwing with the output quality until it isn't choppy. Upgrading your internet/CPU/graphics card will get you more quality of course.

Try the x86 version first.. I think pretty much everyone in this thread running the x64 version has had issues.

Yup switching to the x86 version fixed it, thanks Ghen. By the way do you have any idea how to remove the new water mark the added? It wasnt in my older version.

This is the method I've been working on for the past week or so and my experiences thus far are that the 64bit version doesn't work most of the time. Use the 32bit. Funnily enough I was a couple of days from putting up a guide like this (once I got the setup to work), for exactly the same reason as the OP, 'trade secrets' are harmful to the community in general. The OP has saved me the trouble, which is awesome :D

I was looking at some information on another forum about this and it stated that a possible fix for the 2-3fps thing was to change from FME 3.0 to FME 2.5. I have not managed to test that yet, so it may be a complete red herring, but it's worth a shot.

I should also point out that 'internet connection' has nothing to do with that problem at all. Check the encoding logs, you will quite clearly see frequent, absurd drops to really low bitrates, such as 30kbp/s as well as low framerates which cause that juddery issue as well as the artifacting. FME 2.5 MAY alleviate that problem, maybe. it's worth a try.

Another thing, VHScrCap can cause a lot of flickering in SC2 UNLESS you play it in Fullscreen Windowed mode. If that occurs for you, that's the solution.

Also, Ustream does 4:3 or 16 ratios, not 16:10. Just bear that in mind when choosing which resolution to use.

This is overkill. You can stream 852x480 in 500kbps and it will look pretty good. If you're obsessive about quality, VoD to Youtube instead.

Thanks for the props.. of course I'm actually not even using the software so any insight about actually using this setup is appreciated! I'll be adding your tips to the front page.

Ok, the following setup WORKS with FME 3.1 on Justin.tv and I also assume Ustream (since it's exactly the same setup, same programs). Your mileage may vary. This is designed for a low bandwidth streamer such as myself and quality can and should be improved if you have a higher upstream available.

VHScrCap Settings :-

FME 3.1 Settings :-

Starcraft 2 is set to run FULLSCREEN WINDOWED. Running in Fullscreen may cause VHScrCap to flicker a lot. Desktop resolution is 1920x1080 (to ensure that SC2 is also running at that resolution)

Please ignore those audio settings entirely, since they are specific to my machine and will not work for yours.

Note, those settings will cause some blocky artifacting when moving the screen around. I'm working on reducing that. So far, I've found that using the same settings, but encoding in VP6 instead of H.264, reduces that effect significantly, particularly when under the VP6 settings, you select Keyframe 3, Datarate Window - Tiny.

I'll post more information as I refine the settings.

Sound blaster uses a technology they've called "What U Hear". So make sure that is enabled in your Sound Blaster options as well as the same place I showed the Stereo Mix on Realtek. All Soundblaster Audigy cards have this, so you're guaranteed to find it eventually. Sorry I can't help further.

If you do find it and have screenshots, send them to ghenxx at gmail.com and I'll include it in the tutorial
