Adding a 4th race to the expansion is not going to happen. Blizzard is so focused on balancing the game and making it viable for e-Sports that it's inconceivable that they would turn the game on its head upside-down by adding a 4th race 2-4 years after the game is released. By adding a 4th race, you are creating 6 more matchups that have to be balanced, not counting 2v2, not to mention map dynamics.

I bet the hybrids are going to be part of a downloadable bonus mission released inbetween the zerg and protoss expansions

I think its four more matchups.

As probably said in the thread, expect it to be mentioned in the campaign alot but dont expect a new race to be added. At best maybe a single player campaign line(a few missions) with a "hybrid" race of a bunch of special units.

that video is from an old mod for C&C generals

Ya - i'm sure there will be the Hybrid units in SC2, like someone said that blizz said themselves - but only in single player, obviously. Adding the hybrid and any of it's special actions to multiplayer would create unfairness or create more of a "ums feel" to the multiplayer competitive dimension - like if u gotta sacrifice 2 zeals, 2 probes and a pylon to warp in a hybrid.
Besides, the Hybrid prolly isn't going to be the emergeance of another race, just 1-2 units if that, prolly just 1 particular unit, like zeal/hydra hybrid etc. Like someone stated, it'll prolly be more of a 'seek and destroy' mission, trying to kill the hybrids before they multiply too much.
I mean, Kerrigan and Duran were hybrids of Terran/Zerg.. They didn't spawn another race.
I think another interesting dilemma for SC2 will be the arrival or return of the Xel'NaGa and seeing what they do with current situations. Keep in mind, they're pretty weak. They're kinda like scientists, rather than warriors. From reading the race-history of the Protoss, when the Xel'Naga left, they felt betrayed and started destroying/attacking the xel'naga for abandoning them. So apparently they don't have some great "nuke" weapon they can use to fight off Protoss/Zerg or even Terran.. Although, who knows, maybe Blizz will expand their technology, making it seem like they've been away for generations developing new weapons and tactics.
p.s. xel'naga wouldn't regard this hybrid as a "perfect race", like Zeratul mentioned after discovering the hybrid, it's an abomination. The xel'naga referred to the Zerg as being their most perfect creation, as read from the history of the Zerg. For some really F'd up reason, they thought the Protoss was a failed experiment, which is why they left. I couldn't imagine.. A race with such technology, such power and pride to defend their territory/homeland.. and they were a mistake compared to a disease like, insect-like race that just wants nothing but to expand, multiply and consume everything around it, almost absorbing it into it's being..
p.p.s. Race history's can be found @ http://sclegacy.com/feature/8-scencyclopedia/275-race-histories they're good reads for fans of the story line.

Actually, nobody (except Blizzard ) really knows what Duran is. Humans do not live for several millenia, nor can they resist infestation without any consenquences. As such, nobody really knows what he is.

Would love to see hybrids but I think its really hard to make balanced game with 3 races, let alone with 4.

Stereotypes ftw!

WHEN I FIRST READ THIS THREAD TITLE, I THOUGHT THEY WERE SUGGESTING A 4TH RACE SIMILAR TO THE UNDEAD RACE IN WC3 (A MIX OF PROTOSS AND ZERG)

oh sry to get ur hopes up

Also an infested protoss is bound to happen at some point (my bet is on aldaris, i dont think he's really dead.) uhh when was he almost dead? he was alive when zergs final mission was going on. I don't recall that kerry killed him, just went after the UED. and killed everysingle one of them. i think you're confusing artanis and aldaris+ Show Spoiler +, aldaris is the one of whom the protoss said. we have a friend to kill. may adun forgive us. and then aldaris talks about how kerrigan is evil and they are talking to him and kerrigan comes along and kills him off while he's still blabbering. that's kindof what happens. the protoss get indignant at kerrigan and tell her off, telling her to get lost or whatever, saying it was non of her business and she's like, ok, whatever...i did what i came here to do, cya later, boys.

I thought it was already officially confirmed there will be hybrids like a year ago?
|
Im fairly certain that the hybrid race will play a largish role in sc2... As far as I've guessed, duran is part of the xel'naga (judging by the way he talked in that sc1 mission anyway, from what i remember, he first acts like a terran, then you find out he's 'infested' and actually working for kerrigan, but then he completely abandoneds her and when zeratul runs into him he's all "i work for a greater power from ages ago and i'm all badass and kerrigan doesnt know how awesome i'm being right now") and they are seeking to, in some way, make hybrids of the protoss and zerg... Also, the fact that kerrigan hasnt being doing crap for the however many years between sc1 and sc2 is kinda confusing, maybe she's onto duran as well?

WC3 was balanced with 4 races wasn't it? Or did pros gravitate towards 1 or 2? I don't really watch pro WC3, and I can only recall seeing Orc and Night Elf...

Granted, there's quite a bit more factors to deal with in WC3 than SC, so that's probably why it's much harder to get "perfect" balance

Yes but only in single player or custom maps.
