So here we go: I was surprised to see that SC2 is not part of the currently held Asian Games. Any special reason why this is the case? I'd have thought that SC2 is still one of the most popular esport games in Asia? Anyway, while we are at it, I am not following as close as I did back then in the 2000s, but could someone make a rough ordered list of the current most popular esport games in Asia (based on number of fans, popularity, prize money, ...)? LoL may be as popular thanks to their pro teams and it grew in China after BiliBili and another Chinese team defeated T1 and another top Korean team But in terms of viewership, Broodwar can reach like 2 million viewers on Afreecatv, and hundreds of thousands in Douyi (China) | ||

Edit: Also, the Asian Games this year is being held in China, and they had a fallout with Blizzard over the license deal. Thats also why Hearthstone was removed from the competition this year. | ||

Maybe you mean at broodwars peak before SC2. I was able to find this - 'In the mid 2000s, OGN, the network which broadcasted competitive games of BW averaged 1.5 million viewers.' | ||

The Asian Game gave the permission to Hearthstone. But since there is no server available in China, the tournament is canceled. | ||
