Yeah, it would have been rough for Serral to get eliminated immediately like that.
I do like the pseudo-Swiss, glad to see it getting used more.

Despite being swiss I think there are some pretty good round 1 matches, Oliveira vs Solar and Clem vs Dark have the potential to be great. Reynor vs Classic is probably going to be a stomp, but Classic did beat him in the champions cup. With herO's slump and HM's traditionally strong TvP that could be a good match as well. Spirit will probably lose to Cure but look good doing so.
Also glad every R1 match is a Korean vs a foreigner.

Also a huge fan of the format I think its a pretty exciting way to eliminate half the players - much more than the group set up. I just hope they stagger it the right way

Much, much better format than the same old 4 group of 4 players format. But they would need to have a fairly balance seeding system to match the players up.

Seems bo3 for the swiss part. Would assume bo5 after that

Theoretically you should never match Maru vs Serral if they both win out because they have the highest seed, supposedly. I think when they did the this format in ESL Master EU, they F up the seeding, we had MaxPax playing against Clem in 2nd round at the same time as we have Skillous vs Lambo.

It’ll no doubt be a hyped watch, and I like the bracket format chosen too.
Really, really not what SC2 actually needs is another big money tournament for the top players around though.
On top of an exhibition tournament of undoubtedly rusty legends with double the prize pool of the last GSL season?
Yeah that’ll really help the scene…
Compared to the money needed to gain traction in Formula One or football, eSports bar to entering the scene as a big player and host is absolutely minuscule, I’m still equally as wary of the underlying motivations.

We haven't seen the prize distribution yet, have we? It could be a good spread with high payouts to the bottom players. I mean yeah for a healthier scene they would've given money to more than just top 16 players but it's not like this is hurting the scene. If it were Blizzard or ESL funding this it would be one thing, but this just seems like someone (or multiple people?) throwing money at their own entertainment lol, we're lucky that it's us and not some other game.

Apparently there are atleast 12 different games that get money thrown at during this event. It is just sportswashing, so of course the TO tries to get as many top players as possible. Not much use to invest in lower level players if you just want to connect with a younger audience fast

As I know the Arabs, I have never seen them even try to build a solid food chain from the bottom up. All they do is skimming the top of a scene, going for the most publicity money can buy. This event goes right into their usual strategy.
I would actually respect them a lot more if they shifted to sponsoring smaller and local events all around Western Europe. That should even do a better job of painting them as "good guys", or at least show they have a likeable side.

Not even trying to hide being a racist pos, impressive.
This is great for the scene, a literal god send. Can't wait to watch it!

I should probably have written "Arab states". I was referreing to the states and enterprises who hand out sponsorships, not "Arabs" in general. If anyone has a different impression than mine, I would love to hear about it.
Anyway, sportswashing from that part of the world is a very hot topic. It includes: -The scandlals regarding the Quatar World Cup. -Paying Christiano Ronaldo to come play in their League. -Sponsoring multiple Tour de France teams. -Very recently placing an astronomical bid o Mbappe, which he declined.
All examples expensive, high profile publicity moves.
Where the money comes from and their intentions should always be questioned.
