Gamers8 has announced the prize money distribution for its three StarCraft related events, and has also revealed the 24 players invited to its StarCraft II main event qualifier.
- StarCraft II main event: $400,000
- StarCraft II "legends" exhibition: $50,000
- StarCraft: Remastered "legends" exhibition: $50,000
The StarCraft II main event qualifiers will be held during April 14-23. The StarCraft portion of the Gamers8 festival will be held during August 3-6.
The invited players for the main event qualifiers (Gamers Without Borders) appear to be the top finishers from IEM Katowice 2023. The player list is as follows:
- EPT Players:
 : Astrea, ShoWTimE
 : Clem, HeroMarine, SpeCial, Oliveira, Spirit
 : Reynor, Serral, Lambo, Elazer, Cham
- Korea Players:
- : herO, Creator, Classic
- : Maru, Bunny, ByuN, GuMiho, Cure
- : Dark, DRG, RagnaroK, Solar

1 did Maxpax decline again or is he an auto-pass on live events?
2 what if innovation or stats gets really good in this time i wish they'd get a WC bid.
3 Cham in there for the americas over eg Scarlett is odd to me

Considering the finals is in Saudi Arabia I wouldn't be surprised if Scarlett wasn't invited/declined.
No qualifiers is a travesty. Cool to see that Dark is participating, I thought IEM was his last international tournament but maybe he can travel a bit more but will have to miss out on the next Katowice?

Ohh wow, so the money is very dominantly for SC2, even more than the speculated $400k/$100k...
Dang BW doesn't even have a tournament then, it's just the legends exhibition, it's still cool though
For SC2 this is amazing, hopefully this money will encourage them to not retire yet, it should help them continue playing this year, though maybe the 8 players who don't qualify won't make anything rip...
The 24 player cutoff also seems quite ideal, i don't think (?) there's any notable missing players from the EPT or KR groups. I mean, it would be cute if sOs, Innovation, Ty, Stats were there, but they just returned so it makes sense.
Oh actually, im curious why they chose Cham instead of Scarlett. I'm not familiar with Cham, i would have thought Scarlett is better and more notable. There's no MaxPax either, who i felt was more notable than Cham.

Ooh that makes sense, that's pretty cool in place of having new qualifiers, just too bad if players feel more guilty that they didn't do better, now that they know this tourny's invites were also on the line...

Very strange choice of players, not gonna lie. A lot make sense but definitely some better ones out there (I won't go into specifics not to be rude) I wonder if they decline over moral reasons for Saudi Arabia or perhaps don't want politicized COVID boosters which may be required for international travel?
Edit: I have just been informed they wanted to just go off top 12 Korean and top 12 nonkorean at katowice so I guess the list makes sense now since they didn't cherry pick.

This is definitely how u support a dying esport. These are the people with the most fans and will bring the most attention to the game. That's what a dying esport needs.
Besides there are already tournaments like ASL or BSL or even now Ascension if u want to watch the highest level of play.

A game that is nearly dead outside of Korea should really be thankful to even get 50K. More popular Esports often have to fight for stuff like that
