They did online votes last time so there's no reason they couldn't open that up to a broader range of players. I do think it is a bit strange to only have two players per team and then claim that you're reducing the influence of one strong player... Well how would you do a public voting between average joe #1 - #8? Unless you had to put the MMR and race next to the Name, you had no idear Who to vote on. And if you did, 99% of the comunity would just go with the highest MMR then The same is true even for 2 players and they already did it with 3 players in the past, so i don't see the problem. It's also not as if everyone has to vote for every country, i'm sure there are people who know the best players of their country. I also don't see the big problem with people deciding by mmr in case of no names, because it indicates a certain level of skill. It's not as if popularity automatically leads to the best team anyway, there were cases in the past were someone was voted in because he was just more popular and not because of skill.

Well as the tournament director of the past few editions of Nation Wars I can definitely tell you there was no budget to run local qualifiers for all nations. Having 3 players per nation was already hard enough because a lot of small SC2 nations would have 3 GM players maximum.
I'm not saying the voting format is great for any edition, I'm just trying to tell that O'Gaming is running with a tight tight budget. I would rather have a meh format with everyone working on the tournament being paid that having local qualifiers that cost a lot of money.
Also it was clear from the beginning that Nation Wars is not about skills only but also marketing yourself if you are a player.

Bump
They are at 54% (21.758 € of 40.000 €) and 19 days left. Let's make this happen! I do like that there are 2v2s involved but I don't like the player diversity. Only 2 players per team is a bit on the small side of things. Would wish for at least 3 with an optional 4th player

You can t use all 3 Players in the same match though

Can we make Paypal happen? I don't own a credit card and would really love to support the project. Just allowing debit card seems a bit off.
Cheers!

But maybe it's possible to give it without a credit card through Ogaming Twitch channel?

So the Crowdfunding campaign was stopped 3 days ago with just over 50k. How much of that is going into the price Pool? Also the Player voting (wich was very poorly advertised and had some issues as usual) is done as well? Please give us some more informations

Please give us some more informations It says so on their Ulule page: + Show Spoiler + 16% is supposed to go to the prizepool, but I don't know if the asset was for 40k, 60k, and if they change this percentage to have the same cashprize for 50k as if there was 60k$. Afaik the player voting is done and captains are now choosing their partner, there will probably be more informations soon

I thought it would be 16% + the inital 10k -> 18k?
A bit of a pity there is so little information. A bit like the French version of WESG Completely missed the voting as well

Though Maru+ByuN would be weak in 2v2, T+P reigned supreme in that 2v2 event

So the team captain can pick anyone willing from the country right? They dont have to be on the initial register/voting list? Also, I thought Maru + Byun did fairly well in the 2v2 tournament during the playoff. They barely lost to the champion of the event, and NW also has the 1v1 part, so I think they would be heavy favorite to win considering all that.

Yeah they were quite strong, but imo ByuN+herO would be the best possible 2v2 team they could gather and still be dangerous in 1v1. I am sure more informations will be coming, the event will probably be dope as usual anyways though

Seeing Maru playing the 2v2 with ByuN days ago is an encouraging sign, BUT based on the reasons on why he hasn't played Stay at HSC lately (and similar events), I'm not holding my breath. I would be surprised if he decides to play.
