Poll: Bring back the original (main) voice actors?
(Vote): HECK YES!! Starcraft wouldn't be what it is without them.
(Vote): Doesn't matter. As long as the voicing is professional and in character.
(Vote): Starcraft 2 isn't Starcraft!! Bring on the new people!

From that Terran Campaign it sounds like Jim Raynor isn't being voiced by Robert Clodworthy (the original Jim Raynor).
Does anyone know what's up?
Judging from the professionalism of the voice acting, I don't think it's a placeholder. I also fear for Ms. Kerrigan... anyone know if Glynnis Talken is going to be hired yet?

Edit: made a poll. Personally I don't mind, as long as the voicing's good. I would rather have them keep the same people, but I'm not going to fret about it if they change.

Edit: Glynnis Talken is confirmed!

Its probably a placeholder. Theyre still casting and trying out voice actors

I read somewhere that Talken is coming back.

Huge blow if Clotworthy doesn't come back though. Even though he was only the featured character in the first Terran campaign, IMO StarCraft is about him. And you can't really deny that he's probably going to feature heavily in SC2.

Yup. After all, the player is going to be controlling ol' Jimmy instead of some unknown magistrate this time around.

Shit you serious?

Part of the fun in SC was the fact that you could completely immerse yourself in your character since you were the character.

Ah well.

You know, one of the traits of the original SC campaign I really enjoyed was the fact that you were assumed to be a seperate character in your own right. Unlike War3 or some other game, where you for example take the role of Prince Arthas (later Deathknight) as the leader of your armies, you were some sort of general-equivalent in each campaign in SC. This allowed for some interesting story events and also involved you with the storyline. For example, in the vanilla SC Protoss campaign, we all remember that point in which the Executor player character chooses to follow Tassadar and aid the Dark Templar instead of carrying out the will of the Conclave. In the Terran campaign, the Commander similarly went along with Jim Raynor instead of the Confederacy.

You weren't only commanding and observing characters on the screen, you were a seperate entity with your own influence over the storyline. That said, as much as I loved this mechanic, I don't see it coming back this time around. The new on-location storyline sequences from the command ships of your fleet, or other command installations looks to be extremely interesting. I can't wait to walk around a Protoss carrier, or the Hyperion, chatting it up with the heroes and villians of the SC universe. To this end, Blizzard has certainly worked on involving the player with the storyline, although you are not your very own character, you do take control of a major leader (we know Raynor at this point, likely Kerrigan for Zerg, etc), and even get to choose options in dialogue trees etc. As great as this is, I can't say I wouldn't love just being that unnamed "Commander", "Cerebrate", or "Executor" again. It would be possible to have you chose a name for yourself as player account like in vanilla SC, and then once again be merely referred to as a Commander, Executor, etc, without actually naming the player character at any point. This allows us to be an active player in the SC storyline rather than an outside observer. At the same time, this may well be the case, and we may just be walking around the ship as Raynor, but the actual battles are all led by you as a general, with Raynor talking to you through the interface or whoever it may be.

Time will tell what Blizz chooses to do, but one way or another it does look like we have a dynamite single player campaign on the way for SC2.

Kerrigan's voice is a pretty much a done deal to come back.

As for Raynor's it's less likely he'll return for various reasons. As for the others it'll be a toss-up 50.50.

When I get my lore article finished you'll be able to find tons more info on that then.

They made a comment in the Q&A ontage about this i think. They said its been 10 years so some of the people may not be able to get a hold of/aren't alive? and/or sound different now. So they will try their best to get some of the old voices and get voices that sound similar to the old ones.
..and then I would, ya know, check em'. (Aka SpoR)

I agree that I feel Raynor looks out of place. Heck, his second-in-command looks way too spiffy next to him. I get Jimmy is down in the dumps, but at least grab a clean shirt once in a while and LOOK like a leader.

@ DTDominion: that got me loling. HAHA!!
@ Freesoul: Good point. For me however, I think I'll be enjoying it either way.
@ LordofAscension: I'll be waiting for your article. How do you know what you know?

I like Raynor's gruffy and scruffy look... he's always been like that

and the 2nd in command dude is appropriate as well... that's how younger and more inexperienced recruits are like anyway... gotta play the disciplined part before you can start drinkin' in the middle of the day =P

The shape of Raynor's head is all messed up. Plus, in SC he barely had any hair on his head. Maybe he went on Rogaine...

Ms. Talken is returning for SCII, thankfully. I can't imagine Kerrigan without her.

The second in command is Matt Horner. He made his debut in Starcraft: Queen of Blades novel by Aaron Rosenberg.

I think Raynor looks way more badass and "real" than he did in SC1. It's too bad he probably won't have the same voice actor but it's just as likely they'll bring in someone equally good.

As for the "immersion factor" having the player take the place of Jim Raynor as opposed to an unnamed magistrate, in the end it doesn't really matter. The player was just "along for the ride" anyway. "Hey Commander, we gotta go over here and do this", "Commander and Raynor, you're under arrest for ----", "Come on Commander let's get out of here". Stuff like that was commonplace. The player didn't really influence the storyline at all, he was just an extension of the characters and their decisions. It would be no different if the characters had executed the player's actions themselves.

Also hi Capricorn, welcome back =]
