Yeah its really cool to see!
Who would have thought Namshar and Heromarine would knoch Cure out. Mana took Fantasy down to the lower bracket.
Lots of close series, looking forward to todays games so much! =D
yet only the foreigner living in KR managed to get through to the group stage
So you're saying that if ArT lived in korea you believe he would have advanced?
Scarlett is Scarlett, she was one of the best foreigners even before she moved to korea. Ptitdrogo is living in korea as well, he fell to Bly/Nerchio and he didn't take a map.
Many of the foreigner-korean matches were really close and well played from both sides. Rewind time four years ago and it wasn't as close, remove the nametags and I don't think you could actually tell who is the foreigner and who is the korean most of the time.
A great day 1 but Nydus is so strong atm. Wont suprise me Serrall wins the whole thing on the back of this thing. It's not like he probably will anyway but seeing Scarlett pulling Showtime apart with it alone was...cruel! Also hero made storms look op vs alive :D

what are you watching... group one the score for korean vs foreigner was 12-2 and group 2 was 10-1. if i guess the winner is korean, i have 90% chance of being right without nametags. this aggressive kool aid you're selling is very detached from reality

Well i count braket #1 24-9 and braket#2 21-6 for Korea vs Foreigners but i guess you took games I took maps. But actually I don't care too much. Round of 24 will be the story to tell.

counting maps is really grasping at straws...
It prolly would be if i would disagree but so far koreans dominated no doubt about that. But like I said imo the results just get really meaningfull in the round of 24

Detached from reality =P
Quite strong words just because we are of different opinions, I believe that if we would replay the same brackets again all over again we would get different results. Not the same results, your reality seems to be based who is the winner and who is the loser. For me the games are also important, how close are they? Are they stomps or even games.
Even if the result supports your opinon I believe the quality of the games and how well they play support mine. Either way its just opinions, no one is right or wrong here, definitely not detached from reality =P
Maybe you're right I guess we will see the further the year goes along.
Korean midtiers are performing better than they have done in a significant amount of time, if he we had to judge from these last 28 hours the gap is wide open and actually increasing; thus said, the majority of the results considered involve mid/low level foreigners.
What indeed is surprising is Creator beating Reynor and aLive beating ShoWTimE1 It really feels like 2013, top foreigners are expected to lose against top koreans most of the times but they have been recently favored against non top tier koreans for good reasons.
Implying these results are the norm nowadays is being detached from reality.

what about impact 2-0 elazer? or trust 2-0 lambo? perhaps these are all statistical flukes, and the objective reality is that in which results and facts are trumped by subjective interpretations of "close games" and chance. meanwhile, i'll stick with numbers

Not sure if you read what I personally wrote or you are confusing me for the guys above me speaking of closeness of games and level of play.
To find a IEM qualifier worse than this for foreigners you have to drive four years back in time, in an era where Korean domination was total and completely unmatched. Treating similar results as ordinary is being extremely korean biased, that is not what we were accustomed to observe these last years.

then i don't know who you're arguing with or why you co-opted my phrase about being detached from reality if you weren't hinting at my position... people in this thread were claiming that foreigners are proving that the gap is closing in this tournament, and i said it's a baseless position. i wasn't talking about a trend

You probably didn't get that the first comment was clearly a sarcastic one whereas the second guy gave "the gap is closing" a very wide comparing the current situation to the one there was in HoTS during the period of hardest korean domination.
I am indeed arguing with you as a single tournament rarely is meaningful unless something historical or unprecedent is achieved whereas trends usually are closer to the truth.
The gap, without any doubt, started closing at the end in HoTS; if you ask me, I'd actually say that the average tournament performance of non koreans in korean heavy field was at its best at the end of 2016 with Neeb's Kespa Cup and the brilliant foreigner results at BlizzCon. 2017 didn't see any progress and while 2018 was remarkable due to Scarlett's victory at Pyeongchang(against two koreans only, albeit top tier ones), if we exclude Serral's dominance over Sc2, the other foreigners had results we could deem acceptable but still not better than 2016's and 2017's.
IEM hasn't even entered its main phase but foreigners severely underperformed during the qualifiers that are probably one of the worst events you use to support that the gap is closing ; if 2019 would go on in a similar fashion you could actually conclude the gap has actually started widening again.
