With the first week of 2018 GSL Season 1 in the books, Rogue (on his birthday!), Scarlett, Billowy (now known as DoKyung) and aLive met to determine the next two players to reach the Round of 16.
Rogue opened the day with a one sided 2-0 over DoKyung. A ravager/ling all in put him up a game, while mutalisks played a critical role on Ascension to Aiur. Along with zerglings and banelings, they whittled away at DoKyung’s defenses, slotting Rogue into the winners' match.
Scarlett took a 1-0 lead against aLive, but failed to close out the series. Game two went to the extreme late game, but aLive's ghosts were able to save him despite losing most of his production. A lethal tank push in game three set up a winners' match between aLive and Rogue.
Rogue rushed to ultralisks in game one, but aLive brought the game to a sudden end with a tank/bio/liberator push that killed Rogue's fourth. aLive's hellbat opening did little damage in game two, but the subsequent bio/tank aggression stretched Rogue too thin and earned a concession.
DoKyung’s stalkers saved his carriers from brood lord/corruptor in game one, but Scarlett weathered his adept pressure before evening the series with a hydra/bane counterattack. Game three went late, but lurkers and brood lords were enough to put Scarlett on top.
Rogue's early pool opening didn't do much in his first game against Scarlett, and neither did his 2-base attempt. Scarlett defended long enough to get to mutalisks, and Rogue, with no options left, conceded. Rogue was up four bases to three while harassing with lings in game two, but his bane/muta army proved impotent against Scarlett's roach/hydra/infestor army, so Scarlett ultimately took the game and advanced, knocking out the reigning WCS World Champion.

Well this just settles mizenhauer's thread about Rogue's legacy.

Rouge is a patchzerg tbh
Btw, i'm pretty positive the Top 5 westerners outside of Scarlett/Special (Neeb, Serral, Elazer, Nerchio, Snute) would give a very good look in GSL nowadays

What Scarlett is showing is called courage and I am afraid, except of Neeb and Special, they do not have it. Why has not Nerchio ever tried to qualify for GSL? Because he does not want to be publicly embarrassed in front of millions of fans. Well, and Scarlett is risking this each time. She has the courage to eventually be embarrassed in front of all the fans. And this time, she was not embarrassed!

Rogue was the one who failed a 13/12 against Scarlett in game 1.

Wat. An idiotic theory even from you.

They fixed it with this:
Rogue's 13/12 didn't do much in his first game against Scarlett, but her attack off two bases did - it took the game for her.
That is still wrong though, Scarlett never attacked in game 1, she just held off the 13/12, then rogue tried to follow up with a two base roach attack, which she held while getting mutas, and Rogue GG'd before she left her base with the mutas.
I also think Rogue went 12 pool into 14 gas

Sorry about that, I didn't see the games today so that edit was a little off :D

That makes absolutely no sense

It's more the logistical issues and level of comfort you need to have to live in what is basically a totally alien country.
GSL is not just some tournament you fly to and back again over a week. You have to *live* in Korea for at least 3-4 months in order to get the proper amount of practice in. You're not going to go to other tournaments in the time you are there because it seriously fucks up your prep.
This also means that you are going to commit the entire year to GSL, basically. You will likely not be able to place for Blizzcon if you come back during the year.
GSL is a completely different ballgame to any other tournament out there due to how its structured. You are committing basically a full year of your life to one single SC2 tournament, living in a country literally on the other side of the world, geographically and culturally.
That Scarlett is willing to do this is commendable, but that others are not willing to do this says nothing whatsoever against them. Anyone would have problems leaving their entire life behind for 6-12 months for - Lets be honest - An extremely high chance of failure.

Congrats Scarlett. Advancing to the Ro16 as a foreigner in only 4 tries is impressive as hell to me. Scarlett still has so much potential too, im really excited what this win will do for her growth as a player.

When she was down a game to Billowy, I was really sure she'd tilt and it would be a repeat of some of her attempts last year. I'm more than impressed that she turned it around, it's really awesome.

But let's be honest, progressing into the RO16 is something so improbable that we are talking about one month relocation. And I believe, people like Nerchio just do not want to risk a Lilbow type embarrassment if they tried. Scarlett does not care, she tries.
EDIT: But the fact is that several people have tried and they all deserve respect. I do not mean Jake now, as he does not have any reputation to lose, he can only win. In that situation, it is psychologically easy to do that. But all the TOP foreign players, who risked it and came to the qualifiers, deserve acknowledgement.
Of course, Scarlett is a special case with her dedication to this cause and really living in that country. She just proves how a person can be successful if she dedicates everything to her dream.

Just watched the matches. Great play by Scarlett, she actually should have won against aLive as well. So happy she's through!

super impressed by aLive, i did not see him getting out in first place

ZvZ is a really bad matchup to deal with when you are the best zerg it seems.
Great performance Scarlett, gg, but it's bad for the ro16 I guess, she can't compete with the ro16 non zerg players unlike Rogue imo. ( just like Elazer at Blizzcon, he won against Dark but wasn't even able to deal with Major ... ).
But if it can bring more viewers
None of JinAir s players can be regular in his performances ...

From what I saw Rogue screwed up that last engagement really bad. Not saying he would have won the series if he won that game.
