Rough translation:
soO signed up for the qualifier but he told the organizer today that he decides to quit.

Is he going to retire?

Let's certainly hope not. He's too good right now to quit

I'd say it's too early to tell as it's only one event If he doesn't participate in GSL then there is a much stronger case to think of retirement. He's also already qualified for SSL Premier if there is a next season so it's not like he had nothing. We'll have to wait and see.

WESG isn't just one event. If soO qualified, he would likely have earned $89,000 (2nd place in Asian Pacific Qualifier then 2nd at the main event) That's over twice what a GSL title would pay despite being a lot less work.

It seems that I cannot change the title. I should be careful next time. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

Maybe he just have something else plan on those dates, or he just want to take a break, plus it's not like he had that good of a chance to qualify. I don't think he care to much about the money right now, he should be pretty well of, he made a ton of money in the lasts years only in prize money and dosen't seem to be one to overspend.

Maybe he thought the $9,000 for second place wasn't worth it.

Oh man, I hope he's doing alright. I kinda wish he was happy with his success, since he made nearly 200k in earnings this year. I know that's not how serious competitors think and feel, but idk, it just sucks to see someone get so close so many times, and then gets hurt because he can't close a championship.

Yeah think he probs though he wants some time off. If he doesn't play GSL qualifiers then you can start panicking. WESG is always weird and some players hate it some love it.

Who knows, may be he is waiting for Bisu and Flash to retire in order to switch to Broodwar :D But I don't think so, may be the reasons are personal or he wants to focus on GSL.

Considering the uncertain future of SC2 esports after this upcoming year and that he's likely running out of military deferments, it seems insane that he'd decide not to play in the qualifiers at least. I can understand wanting some time off, but I'm pretty sure dropping from practicing 16 hours a day to just 8 wouldn't drop his chance of qualifying to 0, so why not at least try?

There's a ton of possible reasons. He could have some personal schedule conflicts. Perhaps he want to focus on GSL. Perhaps he knows something about a possible event, we don't know yet. Perhaps he has an China-Anxiety :3
Furthermore, I consider that some kind of Code A must be reestablished.

Hopefully he's just busy at the time or something, But it seems strange to not even try. It's an online qualifer right? May as well give it a shot regardless

Yah. What a waste of prize pool that is, to be completely honest. I wish that prize is used to host 2 IEMs or DreamHacks.

Rogue isn't a "faceless Korean." He has a very unique playstyle and he's been an exciting player to watch ever since he first played in ProLeague. I know you want soO to win something for once but just chill with the rage bruh. soO is statistically the most consistently good player in all of SC2 and he will certainly get a first place once he overcomes his mental block with finals.

So getting to the finals of 10 premier tournaments in the past 3 1/2 years is "mid-tier?"

from one of soO's interviews, rogue was a jerk to him and treating him poorly when they were on same team together, so yes, yes it is rogues fault. the bad guy won blizzcon and ruined the perfect cinderella story. rogue = sniper. hope he similarly falls off into irrelevance

People gotta stop speculating some BS retirement news about soO or he is broken or whatever. He skipped WESG so what? It is a whatever event. I don't even care about it personally (I think it is a joke event with a big prize pool). Not some prestigious events that soO is gonna regret missing out or anything.

He is a human like any of us. Need a break. There are quite a few important qualifiers coming up including GSL. The last time I watched his stream. He was perfectly fine. Even making fun of his 100K that he lost to Rogue by putting up a donation bar for 100K.

Looking forward to seeing him at GSL again and I'm sure he will be there.

Yah, since his loss at BlizzCon, people are freaking out about soO. While it is understandable given it is painful for a fan to watch him losing again, it might be even worse for soO. But like soO's standard, he is tough enough to make it to 6 finals so he is strong enough to overcome this disappointment. People just overreact to the point it is annoying.

JAGW players are with the team so they are not that desperate for money. They tend to focus more on Korean events. Maru was finalist last year so I think he does want to play to defend his standing.

Funny how most Jin Air players dropped out, but Maru didnt

Just because the results aren't on Liquipedia doesn't mean they didn't play the matches. There's a Chinese VOD of the qualifier that shows Rogue beating Creator in like 4 minutes. It's just that WESG didn't update their site so there's no real source to get all results 100% accurate.

No idea who did and didn't show up in the end.

Lol get over yourself, you seriously think players care more about a tournament being prestigious or not as long as it pays a shit ton of money? (If they promise to pay and don't, that's another matter entirely...)

Agreed regarding the people being weird about soO, but also come the fuck on a little...

OK. I'm not trying to ignore all of information regarding soO's tweets and stuff but I think he meant it sarcastically. I still see him playing on his account. I only believe he truly quits SC2 when he no longer plays.

Just watched Crank SC podcast (SoO was a guest on the podcast), and someone raised the question. Crank immediately answered that SoO is not going anywhere and not to cause false rumors.

soO got his draft notice on Dec 5th.

WESG Korea qualifier was scheduled to be held on Dec 15th but soon the date was changed to Dec 8th.

soO traveled overseas to postpone joining the army before knowing the change of qualifier schedule.
(Traveling abroad is a legitimate way in Korea to postpone joining the army.)

soO could have played qualifier abroad but he didn't.

How does this work, does it mean he can't go back to live in Korea if he dosen't do his military service?

pretty much yes. At least up to a certain age, I cant remember the limit.
They are quite flexible in that you can postpone it for a variety of reasons but in the end you still have to do it.

You have to do it, yes. I believe it's 18-35 with a number of exemptions. The wikipedia article goes into more depth for anyone curious, but I have no means of vouching for accuracy.

soO's interview uploaded on the Internet an hour ago.

http://sports.news.naver.com/esports/news/read.nhn?oid=347&aid=0000112142

"I always play game as if it were my last game but I think 2018 really could be my last year as a progamer."

Classic, Ryung and KeeN also said they will go to army after 2018 season is finished.

I don't want soO to retire but it makes sense given he along with Classic, Ryung and KeeN belong to the "older" generation of progamers. They will need to do army service soon. In fact, Stats, Zest, herO and GuMiho are pretty much around the corner as well (basically 1992 or older). So many great players on the verge of going to army service. If there is WCS in 2019, there will be a lot of missing names in Korea when there is basically no new blood. I'm so sad.

We can hope players that went into the army two years ago will return, like MMA.
