HGC=100K/team whatever happens When HoTS was way more "dead" than SC2. Use warchest money for something like that would be much more relevant

RO16 is so stacked, so ro16 qualifiercould eliminate many good players if the format is so fickle, which is bad

Age of the game has much more effect on the viewership numbers than region lock ever could. And it seems so damn ungrateful to complain and whine about prize money amounts when they aren't even obligated to support SC2 in the first place. A long time ago Blizzard didn't even have anything to do with the esports scene monetarily and it was all on the individual tournaments like Dreamhack and IEM to put forth all the effort on that side. That Blizzard's putting anything in is probably the only reason we still have tournaments.

OTOH the fact that Neeb failed to qualify to Ro32 due to his PvP is... hilarious as well?

If GSL is a competetion and nobody should be upset about stronger foreigners taking the spots of weaker Koreans, than it should be okay for Koreans to take the spots of weaker foreigners in the WCS circuit. Either open up everything to everybody (much prefered solution) or protect both regions with region lock. But the other way around would be unfair too. The reason so few foreigners are participating in the GSL is because it requires a commitment of time, money, and effort, whereas if you removed the region lock, it would require very little effort for a top Korean to participate in a few weekend tournaments. Additionally, the loser of all this, the low-tier Korean gets nothing from removing the region lock--all it means is that the scene becomes even more top heavy. Trying to make the system 'fair' is meaningless. There's too many variables, too many different conditions. Trying to make the system 'better', i.e more likely to increase the health and longevity of the scene with considerations for the players and the viewers, is worth discussing, but first you have to toss out the ephemeral goal of achieving 'fairness'.

And the problem with having no region lock was that it was never the lower level Koreans winning the tournament (except maybe Impact). It was the top level Koreans stomping all the foreigners and taking top prize. So having no region lock would only serve to help the top Koreans. Cause as we see here, the foreigners are more than enough to beat lower level Koreans (and this is without including Showtime or Nerchio or Serral). And while the GSL may not be "technically" region locked, you generally have to live in Korea to compete in that season of the GSL, which functionally makes it region locked. If the Koreans want to live in the respective WCS region for the duration needed for WCS, then I have no problem with them competing in WCS (I realize the process is harder with the visa requirement)

I don't think the region-lock is the reason why viewer numbers are in the toilet. But it's just as stupid to say that foreigners make the game alive, there's absolutely zero evidence for that. Viewership-numbers don't support that claim at all.

Dark twice. Meanwhile Time and Scarlett get a group with a failed overwatch player and a Zest who probably doesn't know what race he plays anymore. Because NoRegreT is a cheeselord and Impact didn't know beforehand (I assume). Whatever group he's in he will 0-4 without much doubt

I mean, technically Jonkoping is one of the first times on my memory when most of open bracket groups were not populated. I was in stasis since 2015, of course, but nonetheless.
