in 2010 Frank Pierce, executive producer, promised SC2 was a 10 year esports experiment. so we are getting 5 more years of support beyond our purchase of the final installment of the game.
Blizzard either supports a game for a long, long, long time.. or they cancel it and never release. Blizzard never has orphaned a community... so the likelihood of Blizzard pulling a "fire and forget" is very, very low.
Mike Morhaime would have to get fired for a "fire and forget" scenario to be possible... and he'd have to be replaced by an asshole.

Now that Ranked (and ranked archon) is out I'm absolutely in love. Once I pay my college tuition I'll get pre-order.

Since before the start of SC2. but, I won't be pre-ordering anything. if they make 20 million or more before the game even comes out it really reduces the incentive to improve the game. Who even knows how bad it's gonna be?
With everything they hoped for StarCraft, and as little as it has returned for them, I imagine they could just cut their losses and release any old trash if they make enough.
Please to not reduce the incentive for them to keep improving the game, by giving them money already for it. Please. Yea I have to agree, when people shell out $ like this (and for most of their other games) blindly, along with the fact there's no other decent competition out there for RTS', it really does give them less incentive to make their product better. Like how do they have the audacity to value this product at its current price is beyond me
In all honesty this game will still be good as an RTS and miles ahead of other existing RTS', and I'm sure the campaign will be well done and a nice wrap up to the story, but everything else about this game has given me little motivation to want to play for fun or competitively after finishing up the HotS campaign 2 years ago. Stuff like no chat channels and mediocre UI, bad arcade system, and other things that made the e-sport spectator experience not so great the last year easily could have been improved

So they want me to pay 59 for a digital download, i want a fisic copy with access to beta.

Meh looks cool but...i'm gonna wait for the Collectors edition.

Pre-order doesn't make sense anymore.
Back in the old days you pre-ordered when there was a chance that the physical copy at the store would run out of stock.
Now it just seems like a promotion tool and a sure way to give you as the consumer zero options like waiting to see if the game works or not and buy it later once you actually know that the product is worth buying.
EDIT: and for those who don't understand why you should not pre-order and uses arguments like: "YOU THINK BLIZZARD IS A BAD COMPANY THATS WHY YOU DON'T WANNA PREORDER" please at least educate yourself regarding the correct reasons as of why some people are opposed pre-orders :
TotalBiscuit - Why pre-orders are bad Boogie - Do not pre-order games Kotaku - Stop Preordering Video Games

Well, to all the pre-purchase critics out there, yes, the world sucks. In general, the meager bonuses you get for a digital pre-order probably don't justify paying for something you won't have before 6 months. But I would suggest trusting the consumer a bit more, nobody is forced to buy anything after all. To me, this pre-order felt well justified because: 1) Let's not kid anybody here, I'm playing Starcraft and I like it, I would have bought this shit at release anyway. 2) I'm getting the fucking beta, with 3 campaign missions, so I actually get to play now!
Pre-ordering is almost by definition for those who trust the product to be good and up to their expectations when it gets in their hands. You like to constantly whine about how Blizzard is a terrible company and is ruining the game, about how the economy is not like you want, about how warpgate is completely broken, about I don't know what else BW thing you're nostalgic about? Yeah, sure, pre-ordering is not for you. But that's about it, don't act like Blizzard is insulting you by informing you you can pre-order a game you don't like... Just don't pre-order it.

Are you serious when you say "5 years more of support?" .. pretending you're serious, if by "support" you mean that the servers will stay online for 5 more years I agree with you, anything else it's just a wet dream by you.

I will buy it for the campaign. I don't like the new changes to economy, it looks boring as hell.
|
I will wait for a physical Copy since WoL and HoTs Standard editions are awesome.
Unless HotS Ladder dies.
|
lol Teamliquid forum is far more negative than r/starcraft recently.
|
yeah... no, not going to buy this unless the product has shown to be a full 180 degree turn.

So where is the hype for this patch??
