I completely agree with you. Perhaps a colour coding for each player would be good just so the audience can distinguish who is the one in control doing what. I agree with previous posts in that the game design atm is quite 'unbalanced' and there's a lot of flaws in the new units that will no doubt be abused by pro-gamers.
Nonetheless, I'm sure the event will be incredibly fun. (Even if there won't be many protoss making it to the later stages of the tournament) Besides, it's a good way for the pro-gamers to connect with the fans and to basically muck up with the new units.

Cool to see that they are trying it out. I guess they will find out if there will be a market for an Archon mode tournament when they run one. I for one am excited to see games played closer to perfection. But I guess the level of play will still only be marginally higher and not close to the potential of archon mode, since players haven't traine much archon mode.

How is it confusing? Perhaps I am alone on this, but I don't think you don't need to know what each player is doing. All you need to know is what each team is doing. Whether the match is good or not will determine my interest. Knowing who did what doesn't change my interest that much.
However, perhaps it would be neat to have different colored select ring underneath each unit so we can see who is doing what.

I am completely on board with trying new ideas in a highly funded, well-produced format that encourages anyone and everyone to try things in as full a way as possible.

I think Red Bull is the type of venue/tournament where things like this should be encouraged.

I think the added enjoyment is supposed to come from the crazy plays resulting from one player worrying about nothing but micro.

Bitterdam was an Archon, Zepphnarde is the Archon of Australia, you could say that there's an Archon in EU casting if the names weren't all terrible for making Archons out of. Tastosis is just the original Archon, not the only one.
EDIT: I just watched the clip. Red Bull. You ended with "More Info Coming Soon (Ish)". You didn't go with Soon (TM)? Really?

It'll be good entertainment. I'm all for it!

Yes. Because Archon Mode is a dumbing down of the actual game. Whether Pros or Casuals play the mode is irrelevant. To use a line from earlier, maybe I'm alone on this but to me if I wanted to see a dumbed down, casual mode game played by pros I'd be watching Dota by now

Red bull still got its toes in SC2 niceee I suppose.

If it's enough to make people play and love this game I am all for it. Go Red Bull.

I don't really see the spectator value either. It'll be like a normal 1on1 with flawless macro and overall fewer mistakes, but I don't see what will be much different from 1on1. Some say that archon will encourage more harass as you got more time for micro, but you got more time for micro in defense as well. Not sure that more time for micro in both offense and defense will favour the aggressive player that much. But well, I'm all for trying it out and see how it goes.
Proper 2on2 though, THAT is great for spectators, far beyond silly archon mode imo. Here there is no doubt that harass and aggressive play is favoured, as the offensive players can 2on1 one of the defenders, and even a single player harassing will have twice as many bases to harass, ie forcing twice the static defense, etc. 2on2 encourages map control and harass soooo much more than any 1on1 economy change or archon mode or whatnot. Go and watch some of the 2o2n tourneys, they are great!
Archon mode seems like fun to play though, specially for noobies that can feel pro I imagine.

Seems pretty cool, but I do hope they can get a way to show us what each player is doing. Otherwise it's gonna look pretty much like 1v1.

Anything not 1v1 sounds innovative and exciting to me. Not sure if it will sell to the average viewer though.
I do think archon mode is overhyped. The only chance at getting the great team synergy ppl are expecting would be at least 2 weeks of archon practice. And realistically, most pros aren't going to do that unless there is a serious prize pool.

This will be interesting to watch, for sure.
I'd like to watch Archon mode tournaments before calling it bad/irrelevant/boring
