You can basically just leave the game as P when the game begins if the opponent is Z. I think I'll run out of vetos before the fourth map is announced. I guess I'll learn what "off-season" really means. I had some hopes when CK was the first map that the people voting for maps where you can at least play a somewhat real game would be more than people who votes for shitty 2010 maps which are ridiculously imbalanced and forces cheesy builds every game. With metalopolis out now I'm really scared that I won't be able to ladder next season. Even tho I play zerg and a lot of these maps would be ZvP favored in terms of win rates, it's just a waste of time to play a game you know exactly how it will play out beforehand and that doesn't give any real practise. The current map pool is the worst pool since WoL, so now I have to play some maps that are really retarded in some MUs (merry go round ZvZ, deadwing) because there's not enough vetos. Hopefully there will be atleast 2 playable maps for next season, if there are 3 of them I'd be happy, just a shame that I have to waste time leaving games/doing blind cheese on the maps I can't veto. Same for me. CK first (and not Steppes of War for instance...) was a good surprise, but Metalopolis second is definitely a surprise too, and not a pleasant one. I'm quite worried about what we're gonna get next days... If Shattered Temple, Xel'naga Caverns and Steppes of War all come along Metalopolis -which is alas likely-, the map pool will basically be unplayable. Ah Wire forever the pessimist it seems.
We shall see though.

Wouldn't surprise me if a lot of the foreign pros just played counter strike/LoL/passionstone over the next few months and fall even further behind the koreans next year. What if the LotV beta is during this next ladder season, with Blizzard giving out beta keys to a lot of pros and top players as an alternative to laddering on nostalgia maps?
One can hope.

LOL, ya i wish man
From a zerg standpoint, all i can do is hope ROOT Catz has some new meta to save zerg on maps like metalopolis

ive been saying this since this idea was brought up, i mean it might be fun for none pros but its going to really suck for pros i mean sure you can practice cheese and allins and mechanics but idk if this will be good for the pro scene at all. we will really just have to wait and see but idk.

There is so much bitching about how imbalanced ZvP is going to be on Metalopolis!
Just you wait for the new and improved Soul Train coming down those alleys!
Have we all forgot the epic cannon rush possibilities? Elevator 4-gate?
It's going to be a goddamn holiday..

sadly for a lot of pro ladder is practice. sometimes its hard to find someone to practice with for a lot of reasons, the time difference, not wanting to show builds to other they might play even if your on the same team, and any other reasons that make it hard to practice outside ladder. and yea i understand kespa pro practice together all the time and share build and what not but thats cause they basically live together, just about everyone else doesnt have this luxury.

Yet despite the problems, it's still better than all of the current map-pool (except Overgrowth) as a HotS map Of course that's not hard, given that Overgrowth is the only current map that isn't complete and utter trash. wouldn't expect any different from you seeing as how protoss favored cloud kingdom is. cloud kingdom is worse than any map in the current pool, even deadwing. O_O Cloud Kingdom is an amazing map coming from a Terran.

1 - pros can practice on "real" maps
2 - call me a fool but I think unborrowing old imba maps in the current patch may change things in the way we see the meta. Take it like an extreme stress test applied to all current strategies. In the end, we may get very relevant data that may be used to the conception of 2015 season 1 maps - which is what pros should really care about - and casual too.
Sometimes, trying something crazy helps you to set up reasonnable stuff afterward.
Map pool is everything now about the balance and the entertaining aspect of the game, experimenting in order to get a better game in 2015 is fine by me.
3- pros like silly fun games too, I dare to say...
About Metalo itself : it has some interesting feature about positionning, expanding late game, and switching to air that might be interesting if we ever get pass the early cheese stage of the games

Wtf steppes not even top2?

Okay maybe I m speaking for a good chunk of the voters here : I started to play way after steppes of war was out of the map pool, I have never played a single game on it and thus didn't vote for it.
I dunno what is the proportion of voters that have actually been playing since release, but maybe they're a minority and the oldest maps are maybe mechanically less voted because of this?
