I think it was an interesting article that brought up a lot of different issues. From sc2 design to metagame changes, the differences in WoL and Hots. I enjoyed the read about the different Protoss gas timings. I also think, overall, that it is fine to write in a partisan way. Sometimes articles become better if they're openly engaged rather than hide it. But for me, personally, I was quite put off by the tone of the article. Particularly towards the end. It's hard not to read it as general balance whine, especially knowing the author. So it's a shame that some of the good points in it were spoiled.

Surely balancing the game so that Terran has a possibility to win will improve the game and its appeal to players/viewers. No one wants the days of GomTvT or Lings of Liberty, or Blink and You Win back. Looking at the race spread of premier/major tournament winners is utterly disgusting and should shame David Kim and the balance team.

Unfortunately Blizz's attempts at balancing often makes things worse. For example reaper scouting is pretty dead since the attempt to fix blink, the transformation servos change has had no effect and now we will have to wait months while Blizz says 'lets give it time ....'. I do not hold out much hope for any real, meaningful change and Protoss may get stronger with LotV.

Strongly agree.

You know what would be great.. assuming that Blizzard actually pays individuals full time salary to focus on balancing SC2 (which I'm not sure if thats Dayvies only job or what).. Something with as much time and effort put into it as this post..

Why would there not be a public document that highlights the analysis of replays of the giant sample size of pro games we have to pull from? Going through game by game.. discarding the games where obvious mistakes are made and focusing on the games where both players played as close to "perfect" as possible.. then running stats on the outcomes? With so many games played you'd think even if you had to throw out 90% of them you'd still pool up a good sample of games.

Then at least the public would have the thought process behind why blizz is doing what it does.. instead of the one pagers that dayvie puts out that have absolutely no detail except things like "protoss is doing kind of well vs terran at the moment.. so we will do X".

And say what you want about DWF's position / opinion / toxicity (lol) but at least he spent time and effort in collecting facts and statistics to highlight his point.. this is more than I can say for ANY blizzard balance patch post that I have ever seen, and I've been around since about halfway through WOL

Honestly... this article is utter rubbish and should be removed. It sports information and arguments that are based on misconceptions.

For example: it claims the reason that "changing map pools" was not the solution to the blink problem was the mine nerf... despite the fact that the mine nerf was reverted against protoss in part.

It's using something that is untrue to justify its argument... which is not good for the community.

And how often do you see blink now after the mine was buffed vs shields?

Depends. Before April 14th you still saw it alot.

The widow mine revert occurred before the map-pool change (which occurred April 14th).

Now when TL's official headline article is this detailed analysis about Terran being underpowered, you know something very wrong has been going on for quite some time.

I think this summarizes what I feel as well. I don't agree with everything in the article, and like many of you, I think the style is probably a little too provocative (though this is clearly an authorial decision with obvious reasons for said decision), but you can't dispute the facts of the case. Terran representation across all leagues, in all regions, and up to the highest levels of professional competition has spiked downwards like a volleyball. Just like the argument at the end of WoL that Zergs were just 'playing better' didn't wash, the argument that somehow all Terrans are just 'playing worse' doesn't wash. Something is still not quite right. I have no answers as to how you fix that without breaking the game the other way, but we need to either do the BW thing of coming up with something absolutely radical and mind-blowing (Bisu-style) or something about Terran should be tweaked. I am a strong proponent of buffs over nerfs, so I would prefer buffs (a la the Hellbat tweak) as opposed to the nerfing of MSC, Blink, or Mutalisks (for example).

Thanks for the write up. As a protoss player I wish my armies had more micro potential, and have since WoL beta. Positioning often comes down to 2-3 move commands to create a concave and then an a-move with a few spell casts. Instead of tweaking terran to be more effective with less actions, I wish they would tweak z/p for more micro potential and less effective a-moves (especially for protoss). Never gonna happen though.

(As a plat terran player so you can disregard my opinion if you want) I think reverting the mine patch or just increasing the mine splash damage range (instead of a 40/30/20/10 to a 40/20 with 40/30 range as 20/10 to 20). This would make it much easier for late game tvz. I believe that the 40 flat was overpowered since 1 mine could potentially get 10 fold its value. Increasing the damage so 2 mines could kill a baneling at max range is fair. Just my opinion though.

Exactly, people suggesting that Terran should be dumbed down are missing the point.

This is gonna take a few days, but I can already say I love it. So much information, so much evidence.

A lot of things are written in a quite one-sided way and some are plainly wrong imo, but in general, I can agree with most of it.

It's quite sad how terran has long been the shit tier race of SC2.

And there seems to be no indication that it's going to change. The race is just so unforgiving and hard to play at higher and lower levels that it's just...bleh.

Yeah but don't say it, eveytime you'll talk about the obvious situation of terran, you'll be another "balance whiner, noob who needs to get better, or a protoss hater".

I'm myself tired, really tired of balance whines but I like this article anyway, that's how much I'm frustrated with the situation of the terran race. But it's not going to change let's face it.
I had to stop playing this game, after playing 3 years, being top masters, watching every events and player streams, loving this game as much as I could. If a SC fan and dedicated player like me starts to hate this game and quits, no wonder why most of the casual players just threw this game in their garbage and went to another game.
