It is after all a statistical, indisputable, unquestionable and manifest fact that you have 57.3% more fun watching your favorite pro-gamer from first person view, than when you lost your virginity. Step up ESL. You guys rock, it's time to rock more.

Part of Starcraft's awe factor comes from the mechanical abilities of the players and their sheer speed, something only those who regularly view player streams or play themselves will be aware of. More broadcasts with things like this please. Hard to do live, but highlights packages and uploaded VoDs should be exploring these kind of avenues IMO. Sadly if I remember correctly, Maru still lost that game despite him outplaying JD IMO because he simply could not secure a 4th base that didn't immediately die to a counter attack. He even tried adding a wall and tanks to no avail. Seriously, to hell with whoever is making these map choices for top-level competitive play.

Nice find Wombat :D that's why I don't win those engagements... not quite as fast as Maru!

Nobody wants GOMTvT to return. We just want more equal representation. And I can pretty much agree with this. Terran is in a somewhat bad place right now, but people really need to stop whining about it. The avilo's of the world do a lot more harm than good with their constant crying about Protoss and/or Zerg. Yes, whining is not a good thing in itself but, what do you suggest people should do? Everyone once a while there are constructive suggestions to what could be done but alas nothing seems to happen. And that's been going on for months now. It's like everything that is being proposed is falling on deaf ears. Personally, I don't play the game because of the imbalances. I know I'm by no means even close any kind of skillceiling and that I could improve to beat those players whom I lose to now. However, I know that the feeling of having to struggle and being inferior from the very start of the game will never end unless I'm convinced that the game is somewhat fair for both sides. This is the mental effect imbalance has on people. It's not a new thing that SC2 is a mental game. Commentators and such often talk about players current mindset. Well, guess what, diamond and plat scrubs are humans too and our play is also affected by our state of mind and so is our enjoyment of the game. Hence people cry for a change to be made. I could argue that you who tell people to stop whining is equally fueling and contributing to a hazardous debate. Basically, you can't even write a long article, providing situations and example to backup your statements without being called a balance whiner. Again, I'm asking you (and anyone else who feel they have an answer) what do you think we should do? If you truly agree Terran is in a bad state then don't argue against people whom are trying to make a change (in this case TheDwf). There is no need to point out that people are whining.

But it was basically Maru trying to survive after his blue flame hellion push did nothing. And Jaedong showed some ridiculous multitasking never allowing Maru to climb back into the game with constant pressure. It was the opposite, except for this engagement Jaedong was outplaying Maru time after time.

It's absolutely fantastic! But I really don't think that Blizzard will do anything reasonable, unfortunately. But both thumbs up for this great article!!!!

You're entirely wrong, and this attitude is exactly the problem. With the exception of this engagement, Jaedong was outplaying Maru all game long. Maru got behind early on and Jaedong played marvelously to prevent a comeback. If you watch this game and think Maru was just better, you have no respect for skill from any non-terran, and your opinion regarding balance is null and void. Frost, incidentally, is a map where it is extremely EASY for terran to get a fourth base. Fifth base is hard sure, but 4?

In addition to that, anyone who's played a few games can instantly see burrowed mines, unlike burrowed zerg units. They create visible ground distortion which lowers the effectiveness. Don't have enough units to kill it before it fires? Just stay back until you're ready, then you can kill it for no cost to yourself. Mutalisk balls at anything greater than 10 can easily kill widow mines and take no damage merely with A move and speed overseer. At 20-30 mutas, they can wreck bases defended by a widow mine or two and a hand full of turrets because they can focus down the widow mines before those mines even fire. Terran was "OP" or "Imba", like protoss, in WoL for practically one single reason: Map pool. Look at the maps we have now. They're wide open thirds, easy to contain your opponents, and good advantages to people that out macro and contain the other side. Bases are spread out, making the less mobile terran army difficult to stop muta harass without widow mines and thors all over. Even then, due to muta speed and muta regen, if the zerg player is conservative, they can do damage without losing mutas until the ball is so big that they can just roflstomp thors. I've played zerg most, and Im playing solely terran now. As to oracle cheese and hate, I find it ironic that terrans complain so much about it when they were using banshee rushes all the damn time in WoL. Now you understand what it was like to be a zerg in WoL vs terran banshee cheese, perhaps? Look at any WoL ladder map, they haven't changed since HoTS came out. Entombed valley or whatever it is, that map has a natural, a third, and a main all within easy striking distance of a slower ground army, masking the Thor's poor ability to defend spread out areas due to shit slow speed. The layout is practically a nice circle, easy for Terran and Protoss to defend, easy for Zerg to be contained. Now that the map pool in HoTS has a lot of wide open areas, hard to defend and spread out bases, Terrans are suddenly tanking heavily? This might be a good thing to look into. I find it doubly troubling that in addition to the changes in map design, Terrans also were nerfed while mutas were buffed. Buff mutas were never needed. The buffs simply make critical mass balls of mutas more deadly as a main "harass you to death" force. As mutas got buffs to speed, Thors still move slowly while bases were made more spread out and open than ever, although in terms of pathing for ground units, chokes and zig-zags still heavily exist, thus inhibiting ground movement for defense. Take that map that has a natural within the main's own freaking borders as an island. Yes, it's an obvious safe pick for everyone, but once it hits mid game or late game, it can become your achilles heel because it takes forever to get back there and defend it from harass, unless you're rallying fresh built units as zerg or warping in as protoss. Then it's pretty easy to defend. We have a combined effect that caused Terran pain as it is now; map layouts, muta speed and regen, and widow mine nerf. Also LOL at DK calling Widow Mines "core" in TvP and TvZ matchups. They weren't during the entire time of WoL, and they don't help vs skytoss or tempest spam (although I can think of absolutely NO reason why thors, carriers, bcs and ultras all cost six supply while tempests cost a moderate FOUR, equivalent to a void ray), unless you get digging claws and send a mass of widow mines into a fight to get under carriers and tempests or the interceptors and get a clutch blow on either of these groups of units or something. DK has no ability to balance anything and the fact that he still is able to make game decisions for SC2 boggles the mind. For the sake of fairness, mass muta fights in ZvZ is absolutely crap. Regen and speed coincided with infestor fungal nerf, making mutas way too good in that MU as well.

Someone figure out a way to make all matchup a like that, then apply to be a lead designer for lotv, and maybe this game will be relevant again

Frost is over-rated, it has huge problems with expansion patterns because of the huge chasms that segment the map in four quarters

I think the thing that awes me the most is the fact that even in between splitting and target firing and microing everything he's also constantly producing units from his production. There's no way my brain would remember to do that in a situation like that. I'm betting it's ingrained into his muscle memory to always be swapping back to the production hotkeys every few seconds.
