Qualifiers go 4 from KR/TW server and 2 each from EU and NA. I think?

Unannounced, but most likely SPOTV due to OGN being occupied with LoL and Worlds.

Whoa this is just awesome! Nice prize pool and we'll see some amazing players and equally amazing games

awesome, hopefully this goes better than the disappointing GSL Global Championship

"Proleague Top 2 Players" is my favorite part. Also potential Flash/Jaedong thing that everyone will certainly be hoping for. ಥ⌣ಥ
Also, like, does this mean SC2 is doing kind of well in Korea? It's a lot of money to throw back in. I guess what I'm trying to ask is, is this a big blow-out to try and get attention, or do they actually see it being worthwhile to even maybe continue yearly?
|
Awesome! :D Will top 2 proleague players be the players with most wins over all of the 4 rounds?
|
Omg this is awesome! ALIVE GAME!!!! :D

I think SC2 is definitely on the rise in Korea. If you look at the average size of the audience for Proleague now compared to this time a year ago, it's gotten much larger.

wtf this is like beyond tier 1, its going to be sososososossososososo stacked

I my humble estimation and opinion I would say that with the new proleague having decent numbers and more fans showing up to the live events there's a good chance it's worth their while. And SC2 being the only major RTS game around in combination with the huge legacy? It would all but make sense.

I think it is determined by the number of wins, but only in the regular rounds - playoffs don't count. In Liquipedia playoff matches are included in the ranking.
Awesome stuff by KeSPA, glad they are so invested into SC2. =)

Yeah this would be my best guess. Too many people could end up on the same wins. Internal ranking would be a much more accurate/fair way to doing it.

So apparently, the region who did the worst job in hosting Season Finals last year is hosting them all this year, because the other ones won't take the initiative.
Good work, Kespa. Hopefully a foreigner qualifies this time.

Great stuff, especially rewarding Proleague performances with opportunities for individual honours which is something I love to see. More tournaments in Korea is something I feel is crucial for the financial stability of the scene long term, the overheads involved with flying Koreans out everywhere must have an affect on finances and prize pools.
For all its reputation, I have been quite impressed with Kespa's entry into SC2.

Currently, I am basically only watching Proleague. You get to see a lot of different players, and the players take it really seriously, something I didn't always feel was the case with GSTL. The casters are really good as well.

Kanji is the Japanese adoption of Chinese characters in Japanese script. He probably meant Hanja which is the Korean adoption of Chinese characters in Korean script.

I agree with Wombat on this. Also, how's it bad that Blizzard keeps putting in the same amount of money as last year (just reordered without the season finals!), and now Kespa and GSL throw money ON TOP of that?
You can look at this tournament like it's the Dreamhack/IEM/RedBull/MLG of Korea. Last year they only had WCS as a point tournament in Korea. Now they have more, and they're open to players around the world. How's this bad for the scene?
|
Amazing, so cool to see a great tournament like this appear. It feels like sc2 is doing better in korean than ever.
Edit: Holy shit, if Flash gets top 2 Proleauge and Jaedong top 2 WCS NA, they might meet!!!!!!!!!

A lot of players dropped out of the GSL GT because the overall prize pool was lower then that of DH Bucharest, which was playing the same weekend. This this tournament will be Tier 1, which means a ton of money and WCS Points and it will most likely be scheduled to not overlap with any other tournament. What I hope for is that we get a lot of the old greats back + some of the new gen guys to slug it out. Mvp, MMA, MC, NesTea, DRG, ForGG against Soulkey, sOs, herO, Innovation, Maru etc.
|
Rad.
Who would the players be if this happened right now?
|
I'd rather go with top4 SPL, Top2 GSL + top1 EU/NA + open qualifier. Not complain about more Korean tournament though
|
I wonder about the qualifiers... will State, Kane, Suppy and Scarlett be eligible? That could be their chance!
|
|
I'd die for a Jd vs Flash ZvT
|
Woo! Nice job Kespa!
This is a great opportunity to see how the western stars do against the Korea stars, which we don't get to see very often... I hope the seeds are determined by recent performance and not lame WCS points.
|
Tier1 tournament is huge! This is pretty cool for Korea and the scene in general, and it's nice to see those Proleague spots as well. It would be nice to see a few foreigners sneaking in through WCS or the qualifiers.

If there is a comparably sized tournaments in Europe money-wise, I am sure a few will chase the "easy" money. Regardless, this tournament sounds awesome.
I really like that KeSPA is taking in those from NA/EU, even if they are mostly just non-KeSPA Koreans =P
|
|
This overlaps with DH Moscow right? I guess the timezones are far enough apart it won't be a huge deal, but still...

Kespa saw the GSl Global Final and was like "Oh we can top that." Sick stuff.

I think it was 60k?

This is really going to help out SCII in Korea. If I'm not wrong one of the main woes players in Korea had was that they only had 1 premier individual league tournament (GSL), and basically once you didn't get in or get knocked out you had to wait till next season to try again. Hopefully more of such competition appear to help korean players get more exposure. This will make it easier for rookies to break through too.
|
Perfect timing as well, at least for me! :D

Not necessarily, imagine a GOM run global championship every april and a kespa cup every sept. That would add tournaments to the korean scene which would be great for the sea of players in code B who could play and earn WCS points through more qualifiers.
|
Damn it, ro32 knockout, no $100000 for 1st place which means sOs wont win this too. He has to wait 6 more months wtf. I expected him to earn $350000 in less than 12 months

The metric has always been most wins when it comes to PL leaders. Win% would be a tie-breaker though. For example 14-10 player is ranked above a 12-2 player. But would rank lower than a 14-8 player.
And yes, this means that it's a stat that favors high usage players like Flash.

This sucks for the winners and runner ups for WCS KR,EU and AM season one as they only got into GSL GC, hopefully they can do well again, especially MC

To find the official KeSPA rankings you can check out the KeSPA website or the English Facebook Page.
|
Is this tournament going to be live somewhere in Seoul? Or online only?

It's because the official Proleague stats only count regular season games. The Liquipedia page counts playoffs also. If you go to http://www.twitch.tv/sc2proleague/b/543467831 (this is the VOD for the last regular season match) and skip to 2:26:30 you can see the official standings, and both herO and sOs finished one game ahead of Maru.

In terms of prestige it seems like Kespa Cup is only less prestigious than a starleague in SC2 (GSL/OSL) or some type of WCS Season/World Finals.

all the players are winners of their respective regions , qualified players all went through a rough bracket to qualify
