Key Information Host: KeSPA When: September 12 to September 14 Prize Money: 80,000,000 KRW (1st Place: 30,000,000 KRW) WCS Points on Offer: 7000 (Tier One) Who: Proleague Top 2 Players, GSL/WCS EU/WCS NA Top 2 seeded into Ro16. Other 8 participants TBD through qualifiers.
The KeSPA Cup was formerly a Brood War team tournament last held in 2007 where professional teams would play in a knockout format to determine the cup championship.
Note that the KeSPA Cup will be the second tournament to hold the distinction of being a 'Tier One' event, following IEM Katowice.

Also, like, does this mean SC2 is doing kind of well in Korea? It's a lot of money to throw back in. I guess what I'm trying to ask is, is this a big blow-out to try and get attention, or do they actually see it being worthwhile to even maybe continue yearly?

I think SC2 is definitely on the rise in Korea. If you look at the average size of the audience for Proleague now compared to this time a year ago, it's gotten much larger.

edit @above yea, despite being an EG fanboy, i was never this into proleague last year even with EG-TL in it. 3 weeks until round 4 T__T

I my humble estimation and opinion I would say that with the new proleague having decent numbers and more fans showing up to the live events there's a good chance it's worth their while. And SC2 being the only major RTS game around in combination with the huge legacy? It would all but make sense.
