Welcome to Season 2 of the StarBow Ladder. + Show Spoiler + The ladder system now rewards both skill and grinding in a more fair way. The new ladder is more similiar to an ELO rank system. All ladder points have been resetted but not the MMR (Trueskill rank). MMR will be used to create division in which you will be placed for next ladder season (A, B, C, D and E). Hence you need to improve your trueskill rank in order to be promoted into a new division. So just playing many games won't cut it, you need to consistently beat players with higher trueskill rank than yourself. What about grinding? This is where the ladder points come in. There will still be ladder points. These points will determine your position WITHIN your division. Here grinding will reward you with a higher position. And you will of course probably improve as you play more and that will improve your trueskill as well. You can look at the first season as very many placement matches which now sets you in your proper division. New players to the ladder will play 5 placement matches before they are placed in a division similar to Starcraft 2 ladder. The matchmaking search will also use trueskill rank to find the opponent best suited for you. Dante's peak will also be added to the map-pool and one more map veto will be granted for you new map haters out there ![]() Eros Client Alpha v.8 has been released: EROS CLIENT Changelog: + Show Spoiler + Multi-region queueing Added better division support. Added visible MMR. Added more languages. Server changelog: + Show Spoiler + Matchmaking is now MMR based. Ladder reset info + Show Spoiler + Each player is set in "P" for placement with the new ladder reset. Existing players who have played 5 or more games must play one game to be set in a division. New players need to play 5 games to be placed in a division. The divisions are now: A, B, C, D and E with A being the best.

So my suggestions are to focus on their lore of firing grenades. Let them fire in an arc (if that can be done animation-wise) and that results in two effects: 1. They ignore High ground miss chance 2. They do less damage closer their enemy is to them representing their weapon being less precise the close one is to them. What does this do in mechanics and effects on the game: 1. You need to micro them, a-moving will get them to attack closest units and they will be less effective. 2. Using them as shields to take lurker shots mean you run them in front where they will do less damage to lurkers now 3. Dragoon tactics like to have 6 range asap, and micro vs marauders that work best at that range would be great. 4. Ignoring high ground miss chance would make them good when attacking fortified positions and would synergize well with keeping them at range vs dragoons on high ground. 5. Enemy could micro against them and fast units like lings or stalkers would be really effective (more than in sc2). What do you think?

So, for those who follow this thread but don't read the 'bow forums, I wrote a great big guide to StarBow. Link: Starbow Primer for SC2 Players. Why? Here's the reasoning I gave over there: ... To start, it is absolutely the case that I am not at all qualified to be writing guides about StarBow; I was dismissive of it in 2012 (I think?) and holding out hope for SC2 to improve, and only learned the mod was still around/alive by accident last week. That is to say, I was on TLnet getting mca64Launcher set up to fix the annual BW itch and I spotted the Starbow Beta thread in the sidebar. Still, intrigued, I watched a few VODs on Twitch, and may have even caught a stream live, so I started searching for concise information about StarBow's differences from SC2 and BW -- since, to me, it seemed like a weird-but-interesting hybrid of both. The Brood War "feel" was obvious, of course -- but there were enough little things changed that I found it frustrating (because OCD or something). I didn't find exactly what I wanted, though -- I didn't find a list to tell me exactly what was changed and how. At least, I didn't find one quickly. I didn't look very hard, admittedly, because I seek out excuses to write. ...So I wrote. And holy hell if it didn't turn out to be a freaking lot of writing. ... Let me know what you think. Should help out for those times when you're trying to interest a friend who used to play SC2 but didn't like the feel of it enough to stay.
