How do they do the press conferences without spoiling it if they're filming several episodes ahead of airing? Do they invite everyone who hasn't been eliminated on air yet? (Including the people who were eliminated on episodes 3-4 weeks ago, but which just haven't aired yet) and if so, how do they answer questions without dropping spoilers. (things like "I got better in the next few episodes" seem rather spoilerish to me.).
edit: the qoute and edit buttons are too close together T.T
Yeah they had everyone there except Yoonsun and Eunkyul who were busy with their actual jobs. They also just answer questions without spoiling anything and the press is relatively cooperative in not writing about spoilers.
They also cut the death match out of the episode they showed to the press to prevent spoilers. They've been really good at keeping things under wraps. Every spoiler in season 1 ended up being wrong. I think the producers leak out false information to the Internet on a regular basis, judging by season 1.
Sangmin played that snake perfectly. In season 1 i just thought of him as a dumb traitor but i tend to forget that he's really smart.
Felt happy with the lion dying in the end. That guy was cocky as fuck.
People are really tryharding in this episode but they have to be sociable to win. You need both intelligence and charm to win this. Alliances are good but if you don't know what to do with it (lion) you could lose even though you are given a high card.
Good episode but i hope it gets better! This show has so much potential
Ah, the Go Player, they made agreement in the team, play RPS, and loser die. But she go back her words, because she has the upper hand being the predator.
It is dishonest business dealing.. to go back on word.
Competitive spirit in a person, is scary sometimes.
Really, she gives me good feeling initially, look like smart and nice girl. Maybe because of her background.
When she start to betray him to secure a 100% win in round 1. My heart break to pieces. Especially when she say sorry sorry. It feels insincere.
You say with ur mouth, but in ur heart u do not do what u say, u hypocrite.
The episode wasn't quite bad, but it wasn't good either.
The problem came from the players forming the teams BEFORE they even selected their animals. I don't need to explain about lion because he already screwed up by allying with eagle and alligator before the game began (screwed himself), but there were other animals who could have made interesting alliances. Instead, they stuck to their original alliances and it ruined the fun.
Honestly, I think the only people who did well in this game was YellOw, the crow, and the snake.
YellOw knew what he was supposed to do, and he made an alliance with the rat. With that in mind, he knew exactly what to do and carried out his plans. Although he did die in the first round, his predictions came true. Honestly, if anyone actually understood the rules and used them well in this episode, it has to be YellOw.
The snake. Interesting thing here is that the snake was really smart at making his decisions and trying to make alliances that will benefit him during the game, not before the game. Then again, he knows how these games carry out at the end.
The crow is an interesting one here. He didn't make any particular alliances, and he died relatively early in the game. He did win, but that's more of luck imo. What people missed, however, is that he was neutral throughout the whole game. The Genius requires you to be mentally strong and also sociable. We've seen that if you are hated by others early on, then they will start picking you to participate in death match because nobody wants you to move onto the next round. The crow played it smart in the first round. While he didn't make any particular alliance with other people, he didn't make any enemies. In addition, he wasn't looked as a 'strong player' compared to the Seoul University or the KAIST graduates. Essentially, if he didn't make any enemies in the first round, then he wouldn't have gotten picked as the Death Match player nor get selected by the player who's going to participate in the Death Match. He did state in the interview that The Genius is like politics, and I'm interested to see how far he can go before he needs to show what he is really capable of in these games.
The Genius is a very interesting game. It requires you to understand the rules, but also requires you to understand how to CIRCUMVENT these rules while not breaking the rules. While it wasn't very clear in the first episode due to massive amount of alliances formed before the game, I hope to see more of the 'Open Pass' situations in Season 2 where we see who's actually brilliant.
In addition, episode 1 already showed that these players want to survive as long as possible, if needed. We've seen the rat take a gamble of going to Death Match just to allow YellOw to win the game. She knew that if she won the Death Match, she would feel very confident and have more alliances going into the next round. It's not ideal, but she had the guts to pull it off.

The dude has over 170+ iq. Obviously when you're that genius, you would be cocky
The show was extremely entertaining! I'm more worried abt the producers being able to come up with good balanced & well thought out games... the Indian poker game got pretty stale.

Yet for someone who has a supposed iq of 173, he was quite stupefying in his actions. He constantly said he had the game in the bag, while he was far from it, way too many variables to be certain of your win. Someone like him should've known that and should've shown humility. Not to mention not knowing how to behave when you know you're winning, pokerface and all that.
They only mentioned it at the end, but the snake needed at least 9 people to die for him to win. Not including him (since he's effectively immortal) that means only 3 other people (3/12) can be alive at the end or he loses. If one or two predators die early on, (imagine lion hits snake and dies, then croc starves both n1, and the other two predators only eat the minimum required, then only 6 people would die total. Or if lion eats the other predators, and 3 of the small animals survive to the end too, then he also loses.
He basically needed all the predators to eat several animals each, or he'd lose. Luckily for him, several large predators had an alliance early, so they all lasted quite far in, and yellow took someone with him as he died too, (in part because of sangmins information).
I think the only reason he had such an "easy" looking game, was because Lion fucked up and didn't go straight for the other predators. If lion had killed yellow n1, and alligator n2 (he knew who both were from the start,) then there would only have been lions 4 deaths, + 1/2 from the other carnivore, and snake loses. He needed at least 3-4 extra deaths to happen, which he got from getting yellow to kill hongchul, which both got an extra death, and broke up the alliance leading to more miscommunication which got several other people killed too.
It was certainly made easier by Lion being cocky and playing it badly though.
Compared to the later episodes of the previous season, it all felt a bit more serious/tryhard-y. + Show Spoiler +
That big alliance formed almost instantly, and it was sort of yellow and boxer, and the other guys who got ignored, who mad up the second alliance by default.
Felt a bit like everyone had watched it on tv, and immediately assumed that "bigger alliances are better," completely ignoring the fact that this game made having certain people on the same team impossible. Hopefully they'll come to realise that large alliances are just as often a disadvantage as they are an advantage, and we'll start seeing all the intrigue again. I'm kinda sad that sangmin got snake, where his best bet was to play passive. If he had a role where he had to interact with people more, then it would have been fun to see how he decided to try to break the alliance up.
Also, it felt like that game was rather poorly designed with respect to actually having to physically put stickers on people. It meant that technically, a guy could just grab the stickers and hold them for 10 minutes throughout the killing period, making him immortal if the other person was physically weaker then him. (Or jinho could have just thrown the stickers out the window, killing lion n1 in a kind of bullshit way.)
Also at the end, the guy kind of let the girl put the sticker on him, he could easily have just held her arms locked until the timer went out, killing her. It felt like they hadn't accounted for the physical aspect of preventing someone from placing the sticker. Hopefully future games are a bit better designed to avoid awkward situations where people aren't sure how far to go physically.
keke, technically strong ppl could do that to prevent being eaten, but probably people wont do that. Because it is a tv show, it is bad for image. if u are sore loser and play this game this low.
In real world, hmm, technically every1 could *use ur imagination*. But nobody do that, because um....shameful? disrespect? might end up in prison?
Apparently everyone on this thread is a master at these games. Why bother watching it if after every episode it's just going to be a dozen "lol this person sure was stupid I'd never lose like that" posts? Please don't turn this into a standard shitty LR thread.
FWIW I think the wording of the immunity rule (at least the translation) didn't make it explicitly clear that all surviving members of the weak-animal alliance could band together and survive, even if one or most of them had already died. It's not particularly intuitive that the last animal survives by itself. Kudos to anyone who legitimately caught that pre-reveal. I know that rule caught me by surprise during the episode, even if it wasn't misrepresented. I think Mr. 173 IQ understandable didn't account for that rule, because from the edits he clearly had a plan and knew where most people were going each round.
The one strange thing was after each round you would go to a new room each time. I'm surprised no one exploited it by checking where people went before entering a room themselves. Seems like an edit would have shown that if it did happen.
The Death Match was interesting too. It was a bit luck based this time but compared to all of the Death Matches previously, it's the one most susceptible to an alliance betrayal during the game (giving someone a Zero or wrong color when you're the last trader). Otherwise it's just a function of how many people are in your alliance make it likely that you will get the right cards.
I think I read that the producers got some consulting regarding the games and setup and things definitely feel a lot more polished and tight this time around, except for the movement rule in the first game.
Anyway, this episode is as compelling as anything in Season 1 so far, so I'm looking forward to more subs.

Criticizing a mistake doesn't immediately make you feel like a master at this game. It's perfectly fine to criticize, that's one of the main points of the show that you can talk about, the genius ideas, and the not so much.
One might've made the same mistake if he were in that person's shoes, that doesn't mean he cannot see it is a mistake and criticize it from a viewer's standpoint.
Despite the fact that 'Mr. 173 IQ' thought he knew where most people were going, he got lucky when Boxer entered, as he might've starved right there. He felt sure of his win because he knew who the mouse was, and expected/trusted her to enter wherever he was at all times, so he couldn't really starve on the chance that no one else entered the room. That's about his entire strategy. Which as we could see, was definately not failsafe, and thus no reason to be cocky. Glad he's out.
