CJ Entus will be playing a showmatch against a squad of Japanese players on Monday, Oct 14 9:30am GMT (GMT+00:00).
The lineup is going to be as follows.
Team Japan vs. CJ Entus 1SET Albion(P) < Akilon Wastes > BByong(T) 2SET vaisravana(Z) < Bel’shir Vestige LE > herO(P) 3SET breek(Z) < Frost LE > Bong(P) 4SET ENZA(T) < Polar Night LE > effOrt(Z) 5SET Holon(Z) < Whirlwind L > sKyHigh(T)
The Korean stream will feature Gorush, Coach Park, Trot, Effort, Hero[join], and Hydra. There will be a Japanese stream as well! No info on English streams so far.
Also, head coach Park says there will be a reveal of some kind of special parody music video featuring the CJ guys. Here's a sneak peak:
I'll be quite interested to listen to the Japanese stream. If nothing else, it'll be interesting to see what terminology SC2 takes on in Japanese, because as far as I know there is no official Japanese version. Like, will they call Marines 海兵 or マリン? Stuff like that. I tried to explain SC2 to a few Japanese friends once but found myself sort of making up the vocabulary as I went. >_>
Also go Team Japan despite the fact I think they'll get steamrolled. T_T

Pretty sure Japan had some reaally good non-Blizzard rts gamers too.
All I remember about Japanese BW was that Jaedong played one (kuroa maybe?) at a WCG and said that he "played like the computer."
You're thinking a guy called zim at WCG where he race switched at very last second and tried to cheese him, spectacularly failed and jaedong remarked "It was like I was playing against AI"

Nah, they're using the same English client as we are, so they had to get used to the English definitions and terms too. That's one of the biggest reasons why the Japanese haven't fully gotten into Starcraft in the first place, besides their focus on FPS and fighting games, and the expenses brought on by buying computers that have high enough specs to play newer games (they usually salvage old parts and make do with what they can get for cheap when it comes to PCs).

That's right, he took out vaisravana in the finals. The skill gap between the top Japanese isn't too wide though. I'd say breek has the best chance to cheese through a win, but I'm hoping for a strong performance from the whole team. Even if they get slaughtered, I want them to put in a good fight!

Japan's losing hard to Koreans in other forms of sports (popping, bboying, krump, MMA, etc.) so I'd like them to at least put up decent fights in others besides the ones that they're already doing great in (like fighting games, Judo, Kendo, Boxing and Karate). The thing with the Japanese for SCII though is that there's not too many of them playing the game. If they had a bigger concentrated community for it like the Swedes do, then they'd be getting much better, and would probably be a force in the scene too. Right now, they need quite a bit of improvement at their highest level (execution, mechanics and micro need quite a lot of work).

How I miss Koreans saying the unit names in English.
I wonder if Blizzard should have simply romanized the English names for the Korean version (in SC2 they do for some stuff like 바이킹 which is said the same as Viking in English basically) instead of translating it (some of the translated units names are completely different from the English version).
I managed to watch much of the WCG qualification. Even with my limited Japanese, practically the entire commentary ended up being in English due to the English unit names.
It's also very odd hearing a 5 minute fight at a 3rd base commentated in Japanese.

The original Starcraft did have a Japanese version, but it sold so poorly that Blizzard didn't bother translating Brood War. I don't think a Japanese SC2 would have helped their player numbers at all. For various reasons, the Japanese just aren't PC gamers.
Will Team Japan play using arcade sticks ? If not their chances are kinda slim. Never heard of players from the Rising sun but whatever... Go Japan ! Kill the CJ tyrants.
No mirror matches at all, I'm predicting a 5-0 victory for CJ. Not exactly fair for team Japan, but if any Japanese players win it'll be a huge break for them internationally. That said, it's nice of CJ to show them respect by sending out their best players, it'd be rude to assume the Japanese players are weak and send out the weakest players on the team.

they must be getting paid plane tickets or something? I can't see them travelling to Japan to play showmatches if the tickets weren't paid for seeing as SCII isn't generating as many viewers as BW in Korea.
we will never see a Japan player at top lvl , maybe if they play in KR server and stay there for a lot but even then i think the popularity of 3DS/VITA/ps3 is way too big
Should be 5-0 I assume. Never heard of any of these Japanese players... or any Japanese Starcraft players, for that matter o.O I guess they're all about the fighting games?

I just know psiarc because i was playing xcom with progamer names and looked up japanese pros... there were like 2 total --;
all the people pointing out the obvious fact that cj entus is going to roflstomp don't seem to understand the concept of showmatches
pro baseball teams play show matches against college teams with regularity. no one is wondering who will win, it's just an exhibition played to give the lesser team exposure and show some sportsmanship and fun times for the greater team
As much as I'm for Korean dominance, really hoping that Team Japan does well. Japan got their players from a group of selected volunteers so I wonder what server they practice on. Also, will it be casted in English or no?
Actually, SC1 was released with a Japanese client, that being said, I've talked to breek a few times, he's a really nice guy. I'd like to see him take a map. I watch Nazomen's stream a lot too. Gogo Japan!
Damn. I noticed no one pointed out Crayon Pop for the first three pages but I'm not the first. Well anyway, the picture is a reference to Bar Bar Bar by Crayon Pop.
^__^
I have watched some professional Japanese tournaments of SC2, once or twice in 2011 and 2012, I think, some national tournament. The casting was nice to listen to. I've also watched a few Japanese personal streams before but they're not particularly interesting.

Do they have a pro scene in other (PS3 based) e-sports? The complete lack Japanese e-sport has seemed really odd to me for a while. Every other country that has a very high Human Development Index or is a major industial nation has a e-sports scene. Everyone except Japan..... oh neither does India I just noticed that.
Interesting idea, I hope it'll be an interesting match for more than the first five minutes of the first game =P I can't imagine japanese allstars beating korean progamers after not fielding a player in a major global tourney EVER, afaik.

I'm thought a couple of Japanese players have played in Open Brackets of MLG or maybe other tournaments, unless it was only online qualifers I'm thinking of.

India is too busy dominating the IT and outsourced call centre support industry to get into eSports maybe. :S They'll end up being the #1 Blizzard support centre, of course, as well as that of all major tournaments. Heck, if resume from replay had not been added in, they'd probably have been the people to complain to in a good 5 years time from now. ;D Japan has a fighting game scene at least which might be mostly on consoles but I thought at least some of them were played on PCs. That said, any that are on PC and not on console (if there are any) would likely be on arcade anyway, so they would probably use arcade games.
Right, well, I'd like them to be a part of it, so we'll have to push for a ギャルゲーム eSports movement to kick-start their interest as a nation.
wow, so pumped to see new countries getting better in SC2..
The game seems to catch "new horizons" after all..
b.t.w. - It will probably be a local showmatch regardless.. There's something surely showmatch-type gonna be.. Everyone knows that CJ is the clear favourite here, so I personally think it's something of a "promotion" type game in the Japanese region rather than a competitive match

If you note the event schedule, it's clearly an event to promote a Japanese SC2 scene; there's five full hours dedicated to free play of sc2 before the event begins. Imagine toying around with a PC game you haven't heard too much about except that its the sequel to a game that was Massive in Korea, then seeing live on-stage a demonstration of what one can do in the game with dedicated practice and study.
If I were in Japan and knew a bunch of heavy gamers, I'd promote the hell out of this event to them! Worst case scenario, CJ Entus just went abroad to stomp a bunch of foreigners, as would be expected of any such show match. Best case scenario, this is the start point of a stronger Japanese SC2 scene and in an amusing reversal of SC:BW's fate, Japan gets a native translation for Legacy of the Void. I hope team Japan takes at least one game off of CJ Entus and inspires a visible SC2 scene in Japan.

No kuroa is really disappointing. He's easily the best Japan has to offer, and not playing in this showmatch? Current US GM and highly ranked in Korea master league...

Japan and Korea have had these kinds of show matches in the past.... JeSPA was formed with very close ties to KeSPA (please note however that JeSPA pretty much has no money or power to host stuff) It's always been to support eSports. Nobody cares if someone gets stomped, this is a good opportunity for both parties.
Also, Japan has had several show matches with Taiwan afaik. A lot of these players are noteworthy. They aren't top world players, but they are competitive in Japan, and many of them have tried to qualify for things like WCS NA, IPL, and other events. It may be dated, and the Japanese don't make too many showings, but they have constant players, and showing them support will only help boost their scene.
Cool, I didn't know about this showmatch. The Japanese team does not include many players I heard of, only breek and ENZA, although breek is supposed to have retired. I'm surprised players like Nemuke or Nazomen aren't in the Japanese team, especially as today is a holiday in Japan. 頑張れ日本!応援するから面白いプレーを見せてください~ :)

Japan does have e-sports but mostly in fighting games. They don't have much presence in PC games.
I hope events like this help Japan develop PC games and especially StarCraft. It would be interesting if some of their younger promising go or shogi players tried real-time strategy and became competitive.
In Japan the cliché for PC games is pretty much "eroge" (=erotic games). They popularized "famicoms" after all (family computers, also called telebi games), they pushed what they did the best. Now that the japanese video game industry isn't in a very good shape (except for mobile games), there may finally be some turn around about their interest in PC games.

As I stated in the last post just above though, it would seem admins couldn't have done so if they'd wished to.
It would have been nice if Japan took at least one game. As a Japanese player, this was pretty disheartening to watch. All the games weren't even close. Hopefully Japan SCII will get bigger and players will get better.

As samurai80 said, so it's a big shame because 1 - it could have attracted more people to that channel and 2 - the showmatch was meant to attract more Japanese viewers but ideally they'd know about TL.net too, so it doesn't look great to not have the link to their stream on here. As I stated in the last post just above though, it would seem admins couldn't have done so if they'd wished to.
Well the positive thing is that the japanese stream was nice, and the casters were fine to listen to.

I really don't understand why foreign scene tries to schedule ROFL stomps. Wouldn't Japan all star team vs. Korean female all-star team attract just as many viewers? They would make close games too.
