I hate to break it to you, most people don't enjoy RTS games as a multiplayer game. Most people never touch the competitive aspect of any RTS game because they know how hard it will be. All my friends who know I play SC2 competitively say the same thing "But I will have to deal with people cheesing me, right?" and I have to answer yes. Most folks do not enjoy the super stressful aspect of SC2 or any RTS game. But it that stress and variety of gameplay that defines them.

I disagree with you. I have several friends who don't follow pro scene and not much into gaming but they love to play bw from time to time. They didn't like sc2 at once and said something along 'unexciting'. They used guest passes and didn't buy the game. As for myself I too think that bw is very fun game for casuals.

Cheese is OK on casual level. No one knows how to implement it right and can be fought off easily.

I played BW endlessly even while games like Dota and CS existed, it's not RTS genre it's the fact that Sc2 just isn't as fun as BW was, this is a simple problem that people try to ignore and it sucks I know but it's true for a lot of people. If BW got a graphical update and similiar "Dota" treatment ala valve (cool community building stuff like tournament tickets etc) you can bet it would demolish Sc2 and be a serious contender on the competitive market.

Regardless sad to see beasty go, always enjoyed watching his games back in WOL but can't say his decision to switch to LoL is a bad one.

BW would demolish SC2 if it was f2p and still had support for BGH and all that stuff most of people, who played BW actually played. And yes, there would be need to fullfill both conditions.

I am just talking raw stats and units bought to number of people who play multiplayer. RTS games have always had a very low number of people who get super deep into competitive multiplayer. Every company that makes them has stated this. It is more due to the nature of RTS games themselves, rather than SC2.

RTS wasn't in decline. BW and Dota 1 co-existed just fine for many years.

BW never had a really strong competitive scene outside of Korea though (except perhaps for early periods of game life, that happened long before WC3 and Dota happened).

Best of luck with lol! Good to hear that you matured, it says a lot about the character of a person if he is able to admit to mistakes (in a positive way!).
If you ever decide to come back to SC2, you'll be welcomed with open arms. Cheers, gl and hf!

If hate was a huge problem for him in SC2, he is going to be devastated in LoL. SC2 community is mild in comparison to many of the others I have participated in.

Your story does not remotely contradict his point. Of course some people played BW competitively. However, the vast majority of casual players never touched the real game. They played the campaign, they played the UMSes religiously, and if you're extremely lucky they played BGH maps, which is about as close to a ladder match as you would ever see.

The same was also true of WC3.

I was one of those casual players, and ladder play was something that I did not want to devote time to. Something that SC2 did extremely well was provide easy access to online PvP that didn't feel like a brick wall to climb over, to the point where an actual majority have at least one recorded ladder game on sc2ranks, even if it's a single FFA or 4v4 game.
Average means I'm better than half of you.

I think that an RTS could be made that was much less stressful and way more fun compared to SC2 and that would appeal to mass casual players. It would have to be a totally different RTS game though. Macro should be extremely simplified and it should be micro focused, with bunch of lasers, big explosions and a variety of different units and one nonstop big battle :D

Beastyqt, i always liked your name and was really impressed with your terran play sometimes! You were someone who i considered a threat when Empire played in team leagues and you were an underdog i rooted for in bigger tournaments. it can be a little ridiculous how a lot of people place there hopes and dreams on winning 1 big tournament but you seem to have had success elsewhere so congrats.

and gl in league , i think it's a little easier than sc2 personally (at least from the professional standpoint)
