In my opinion the main problem with starcraft 2 is the price and a simple fact that most people just don't really find it fun to play at all... I hate to break it to you, most people don't enjoy RTS games as a multiplayer game. Most people never touch the competitive aspect of any RTS game because they know how hard it will be. All my friends who know I play SC2 competitively say the same thing "But I will have to deal with people cheesing me, right?" and I have to answer yes. Most folks do not enjoy the super stressful aspect of SC2 or any RTS game. But it that stress and variety of gameplay that defines them. I played BW endlessly even while games like Dota and CS existed, it's not RTS genre it's the fact that Sc2 just isn't as fun as BW was, this is a simple problem that people try to ignore and it sucks I know but it's true for a lot of people. If BW got a graphical update and similiar "Dota" treatment ala valve (cool community building stuff like tournament tickets etc) you can bet it would demolish Sc2 and be a serious contender on the competitive market. Regardless sad to see beasty go, always enjoyed watching his games back in WOL but can't say his decision to switch to LoL is a bad one. I am just talking raw stats and units bought to number of people who play multiplayer. RTS games have always had a very low number of people who get super deep into competitive multiplayer. Every company that makes them has stated this. It is more due to the nature of RTS games themselves, rather than SC2. RTS wasn't in decline. BW and Dota 1 co-existed just fine for many years. Coexist is an exaggerate word. BW was never big outside of Korea. Before SC2, this Teamliquid.net forum had only like couple hundred posters at most. BW was more like a hobby than a career/game to die for. A lot of people did what we are doing right now, aka not playing the game or play very casual (1 game/week) but just sit around and talk about the game. Every scene, even fighting, or AoE scene were bigger than BW preSC2. Lots of missinformation. 1. TL was far more bigger than 200 posters. 2. BW was being played nonstop in PC bangs and home lans (AND not only in Korea). Just because internet sucked back then doesnt mean people didn't play bw. 3. Other games couldn't take over Korea, coz bw provided enough fun for casuals and epic shows for viewers. Which sc2 didnt manage to do, therefore losing players/viewers to other games. He is 100% correct that BW was never big outside of KR. I don't know how it compared to other RTS games of the time, but the game was never huge. SC2 is has had the largest impact world wide(aka, not limited to Korea) of any RTS game out there when it comes to competitive Esports. BW was the #1 RTS game in Canada since it was released. Every Korean PC Bang in Toronto featured the game prominently. #1 in PC Bangs in general, #1 on console, #1 on LANs, WGTour was "the place" compete. Canada is outside Korea. of course, you can still say something about the definition of "big". 14 years after its release i can still buy the Starcraft Battle Chest at any EB Games. Every other PC game on the shelf has been released within the past year. They were talking competitive Esports. Yeah, BW is still one of the best selling RTS games, and yes, you can still buy a Battle.net chest, but that says nothing about the professional competition scene or even the number of people that touched Ladder play (regular or ICCUP). And yeah, of course a Korean PC Bang in Canada would feature BW heavily...if it's specifically a Korean-targeted business, of course it will follow Korean culture. Quake and CS (not to mention Console games like Golden Eye, Smash Brothers, etc.) were a lot bigger in North American culture.

All esports genres are prone to retirement at any moment. Regardless of the game, Esports itself isn't an incredibly stable environment; these outcomes should be expected.
Either way, I'm not quite sure where all this hostility is coming from. Not a fan of Beastyqt? Or maybe just SC2 in general? This thread is meant as place for fans of the player to say their final regards to someone who has been in the scene since more or less the beginning, why all the hate? Just ignore it and move on! :D
Just because someone retired doesn't mean our scene is dying.

I think everyone here knows that BW one of the best selling RTSes, but a whole lot of people act like competitive BW wasn't just "Korea" and "Foreigners wanting to be in Korea".

In chess you would only get a certain amount of time to make your move. SC:2 is different in the sense that you have ample time to make a decision. I think this is a good decision by beastyqt based on that. The art of war.

Good luck to you in the future Beastyqt.....I rooted for you because you where the only player from balkan that could actually play really good and thats important to the balkan sc2 scene...also the rivalry with Nerchio back in the days was really fun.... Thx for the good games....

Man, foreign Terrans are definitely in a bad spot. Best of luck to BeastyQT. Was never a big fan, but never hated on him. Also liked watching his games.

Damn sucks to see another player retires, except you are not retireing you are switching to a casuall game. Nothing wrong with that but i just think its funny how every failed pro gamer switches to LoL.
Except that Beastyqt was no damn failed pro gamer, I had no idea that ppl hated on him so much I watched stream and was my favorite in like every tournament i watched him play in :/ DAmn I hate to see you demote urself to LoL but what ever makes you happy but dont count on ppl to watch u stream LoL though. since all failed /retired/low motivational blabal gamers have switched to LoL.
I know what you mean about some people dont care one bit about things being said, but just because its behind a screen doesnt make me feel better from insults. i mean normallll insults what ever but when people do like mentioned in OP post. LIke after a loss just a simple idiotic comment can make u feel bad and since SC2 has such high expectation on their players and the player himself have really tough time trying to motivate em sellf everyday all the time and most of us noobs know exactly how damn hard it is to play starcraft without showing emotions. Its a game that is hard, frustrating at times but if u can find the motivation to keep going its the best game ever to play and improve, and the emotion i love it even if my emotions make me dont wanna play many times or makes me get whiny for few mins or what ever.
The emotion overwhelming after loosing is just magic in a way imo. Its mor elike IRL that its YOU who lost and it hurts. But when you win or when u know u just played really good you feel damn good. There are no shortcuts to feeling so awesome as winning SC2 games. Winning easy games are not satisfying at all. Thats why i commented the LoL stuff.
Sorry for writing badly bud i just wrote directly from my head and havnt been able to sleep so, take my highness text and smack on it or just read it.

I think you need to be part of some smaller scenes. Around it's release BW was HUGE globally and even up until the time war3 came out it did ok. On top of that the fucking game had wcg + dh + some smaller stuff + online tournaments for 13 years. There was this console fps called shadowrun you never ever heard of that, as a game, was probably the most skillfull console fps ever created, it got a grand total of 4 mlgs until it was promised to be picked up again next year and then just died. TL was also waaaaaaaaaaaay bigger than 200 people, playshadowrun not so much. Dunno if you have noticed but Starcraft has ALWAYS had people who only watch and play little to non, doesn't mean that there weren't any foreigners playing a shit lot for years in bw. Maybe you should get familiar with the sacrifices some old school pros made for bw. Dota is NOT RTS. Starcraft is rts, warcraft is rts, aoe was rts. Dota is ARTS, which is a completly different beast cattered towards a more casual player (afterall very few people like 1 v 1, while everyone seems to love team games nowadays). If you want some other games that were smaller than bw: Halo outside the USA (besides MLG and some tourneys early on there were like 2-3 wcgs featuring it and that was pretty much it), gears of war in general, super smash bros, call of duty 4 on the pc, call of duty in general before activision started to support the esports side, bloodline champions. And I can name you many more. Just because lol/dota/star2 look/have looked HUGE in the past few years doesn't mean that there haven't been small games in the past. Also dafuq is "even fighting", the fighting game community is HUGE, like insanely HUGE, I feel like you should get your esports facts straight before posting.

sad to see you go beastyqt.
you were one of the very first streamers i watched and early on in the game you had immaculate banshee control and that was amazing to watch. i remember you scanning ahead for baneling landmines and being accused (on stream) that you were hacking, which was funny. you replied "nope, i always scan ahead. have lost too many games to burrowed banelings".
all the best with your new game!
footnote:
the moderation here seems to be the issue re: the haters. we need to, as a community, stamp out hate speech and abuse. as beastyqt said it can be psychologically significant. moderators and admins need to take swifter action against hate speech.
