I am still unsure what to think about the whole "Mapmakers fight against a vicious circle of apathy" and how to change it, but thanks for the food for thoughts. I am looking forward for the entries of TLMC2. Do your best, mapmakers!

And maybe cycle them every 1 or 2 months to get fresh maps in. If one map really stands out move it to the main ladder. I think a lot of people would play on a ladder with community maps just for a change of pace every now and then. It would create some variety in laddering, get much needed testing and visibility for community maps, and allow the creme to rise to the top. I agree wholeheartedly with this sentiment. A separate ladder or even an unranked ladder with a fresh map pool could be a lot of fun. If it were my ladder I would set it up this way: You start with a very large map pool, say 100 maps. Then after each game Bnet asks the players to rank the map 1-10. Newer maps will be more likely to be chosen for matches, and of course maps with higher ratings will be more likely to be chosen for matches. If you want to get crazy you could weight a higher league player's ratings higher. In this way you'd end up with a ladder where the best maps rise to the top, and also a fun place for players to escape the doldrums of ladder anxiety. Very nice writeup, Ragoo. This idea was brought to a blizzard mapper when I was talking to him. Believe it or not, they had it in mind before we even brought it to their attention. However, he said all they do is "discuss" things with maps, since the actual blizzard mappers have no say in map pools or what maps get chosen. He said all that is under the decision of david kim. That was all he told me. Bright side, at least they know about the idea.
