Holy shit.. o_o Now you know why Koreans are so much better .. jk That is pretty harsh motivation though!
That sort of attitude and that exact phrase is pretty common in many asian cultures, hahaha. It's serious to the point that you start worrying, but know deep deep down that it won't actually happen in the end... hopefully.
Hey, it's like, 'get a job or i'm kicking you out' except your mom is still cooking good food and taking care of you so you can 'make it'. No hard feelings LOL.

The film was presented yesterday evening at "Docville", a documentary film festival in Belgium. (I saw it ^^). Apparently they had just finished the editing for the blu-ray/TV version but it will probably not be released before 3 or 4 month at best. As someone said earlier in the thread, it's expected for the end of the year.

production wise this looks by far the best one i've seen.... lighting, colors, camera cuts, editing etc. is far superior than the other e-sports documentary i have seen

If the trailer is anything to go by, the full documentary will rock our socks off! I have never before seen a trailer that shows a documentary that truly goes behind the scenes, where the players tell the stories of how there parents reacted to them becoming pro gamers. I am very interested to see how JD became the monster of a player he was near the end of Broodwar, and would love to see some footage of his earlier victories and defeats.
The production of this looks incredible and it is clear that the filmmakers have put a lot of effort into making this. Let's all hope that it lives up to expectations.

Collectively, Asians possess a much more effective work ethic than westerners. I've seen it with students here in South Africa, and on documentaries I've watched on TV that covered this specific topic. It doesn't even just exists within the Asian culture, but extends to Southeast Asia too. Of course I am generalizing a bit, but by far the majority of Indian students (Indians are common in my province) work as hard as they can to please their parents. The source of this motivation is unclear to me, but I believe it comes from the way that Asian parents teach their children from a young age to respect their elders and do what they are told, and that hard work always reaps rewards.

Looks like it could surpass TL's documentary by far Must watch this!

Just to provide some informations, the film actually concern the 2011-2012 period when Jaedong is already recognize as one of the best players, it doesn't really talk about the early part of his career. About Jaedong the main points are the life as a progamer. Although, there is parts of the film about "how do Korean becomes progammers/how do parents react", but for the 2 young you see in the trailer.

Still doesn't change the fact they call goons lagunas and hence deserve the ultimate punishment.

Well, I saw it at the premiere yesterday. It's a great documentary. We follow Jaedong from his time at Hwaseung Oz trough the match fixing scandal, to Team 8 to end with the hybrid proleague. They also follow an up-and-comer who just got selected for Woonjin Stars (i think it's Mekia, but they never say his nickname in the film) and a hopeful who tries to qualify trough the pro-tournament. There's also some kind of interview with a Jaedong fangirl, but that isn't too noteworthy. You really get a great insight into the personality of the programers and the sacrifices they have made (eg no youth as the others). I never followed BroodWar, so it really made me appreciate Jaedong. Don't expect any in depth stuff on StarCraft, it's mostly made from an outsider perspective - but its still great.
Feel free to ask me any questions about it :D

You have been to the Filmfestival? How many people have seen the film? I ask myself how people from outside the Starcraft scene react to this...
Is there a big interview with Jaedong?
Ohhhh I have to see this

Is there a big interview with Jaedong? Ohhhh I have to see this Well its not an interview style documentary. They just kinda follow JD around, and he also narrates some of it. The audience was quite diverse, and the room pretty full (around 50-100 people I imagine). The reactions were what you expect: surprising sighs when they say the practice 10-12hours a day, laughs when the fangirls cry or give JD gifst etc. I think most of them liked it. The docu does a good job of painting the gamers as humas and not some distanced nerds though. There was a Q&A with the director afterwards, and he said they got really good support from a local Korean producer and David Kim got them Kespa access. It was also mainly a one man project, since the director was also DP.

I feel so much for the semi-pro.

This looks good, at least not just a "video interview" documentary. Can't wait!
