It means you will be able to watch WCS NA and EU, in addition to GSL which is now acting as WCS Korea.

Do you even know how the last WCS and Blizzcon tournament(s) before that went?

@sk__mc
No matter how I look at it, WCS's conditions are disadvantageous for Korean players. Players currently in the qualifiers can't even participate in the upcoming WCS Korea. Also the players competing in the GSL in the hardest competition will qualify as Korean representatives.
However if you don't block Korean players from going to other countries, practicing in Korea and playing in Korean tournaments becomes an idiotic thing to do.
Everyone will prefer advancing easily in EU or NA instead of Korea where there are many strong Koreans, so I don't understand Blizzard's tournament idea at all. Either make it so only that country's players can play or don't make the GSL into a WCS tournament and instead make a separate qualifier. This just makes the Korean players that are currently in the qualifiers not want to participate.
Even as a Code S player I'm having a lot of thoughts, but just imagine how it would be for a player in Code A or the qualifiers. The conclusion is I hate this format.
LG IM alone has MVP, First, Byul, Ragnarok and Seed in the qualifiers along with Nestea and Yonghwa in Code A. All these players have automatically been taken out of the running for the first season of WCS Korea. Only the 32 players determined by their WoL results are Korean representatives.
If I compared it simply to football, there's the Premier League, Chinese League and J-League. They're holding the Champions League and they want to give the top 5 teams in these 3 leagues a seed. However the clubs can pick what league they want to play in, and the second tier/third tier Premier League teams can't even participate in the Champions League while the Chinese and J-League compete with all clubs together. Then what would the strong teams such as Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool e.t.c. in the Premier League think?
And what would the lower tier Premier league teams think? Even second tier Premier teams could be top placers in a Chinese or Japanese league but why would they bother playing in the Premier League minor leagues when they can't get into the Champions League?
It would be easier to accept if they just split it up like the last WCS where Europe only has European players, America only has American players, Korea only has Korean players.
Current esports has the problem of Korean players owning every tournament and it is just natural that someone would want a player from their country to do well. If WCS Europe and WCS America is also dominated by Koreans, what American or European person would want to watch the WCS Final?
@LiquidTaeJa
I should go to America or Europe!
@EGJYP
Should I just go to America~~~~
@LGIMSeed
@sk__mc I was forced into despair just by being in the qualifiers
@EGOzRC
Hmmm... Do I need to go to America
@Liquid_HerO
Is it time for me to leave???

biggest change for me? GSL in free 720p hell yeah

I think even if Korean invasion to US and EU happens, it is still fair game.
People always say how foreigners are disadvantaged in GSL because its a month long tournament in which the foreigners usually has no proper practice environment, are homesick, jetlagged , and experience culture shock because they are not home.
Now, the advantage is flipped. These Koreans will be the one who has to spend time overseas. It sounds like RO16 onwards will be on studio so the Koreans who do qualify to RO16 need to travel and stay in NA/EU for a while. So they will be the one who has all these "disadvantages"
Also, in the earlier rounds, things will be online so some Koreans playing not in NA/EU will have significant latency.
If foreigners can't steal some spots considering all these advantages( better ping, home ground, no culture shock etc) then maybe they don't deserve them.

what mc says makes total sense, no one on code a or code b want to play wcs korea anymore, is better go for other wcs..
|
... And someone has made a video that is a picture of Polt with the Star Spangled Banner playing in the background. Perfect.
I think MC is right, this does make Korea way harder than everywhere else. But I will reserve judgement until we see the format in action.

so I am a bit confused about the casting now that OSL and GSL are doing it together. If they're only doing 2 gsl a year it means that tastosis will only cast twice a year and the third time will be doa+ the other dude ? _O
|
I think the biggest problem actually in light of what MC said is that it gives a massive advantage to whoever happens to be in Code A/S already at the turn of each year.
|
Awesome! I hope this will be motivating for NA & EU players to really step up their game and that not too many Koreans chose to compete outside of Korea...

this year yes, next year i think is gonna be 3 gsl and 1 osl

WCS 2012 was so nice Having a Korean being NA/EU Champion will be... weird to say the least
|
Am I the only one who want the whole Code system to be eliminated? Now that there are only 3 to 4 GSL per year, everyone should have one shot at the championship every season, not every two season. Like aforementioned, people not in this April Code S has zero chance from the beginning

How the f is this supposed to be motivating? In the past you could have concentrated on stepping your game up to beat non Koreans, but now faced with the possibility of playing the best players in the world, you're really going to double down on your practice to take on worse odds. Should work at blizzard.

It seems more like they will all cast everything. GOM will get a feed when OGN is hosting, OGN will get a feed when GOM is hosting. So I guess you could watch the whole thing on GOM if you want to, and it would all be casted by Tastosis.

Right there with you, hated this even in 2010.

I think it would be better if they follow the soccer model instead of giving out equal number of seed to every region. All 3 can start out with the same number of seed (5) then at the finals, the region that perform better will get more seed next season and the the region that perform worse get less.
|
This will be a wonderful tournament to get Hyped about.
|
Having paid a year's subscription to GSL, I hope that nothing has changed in their scheduling format. GSL's production and website is so much easier to navigate than essentially anywhere else. When OSL was on I didn't even know where to find the VODs unless they were twitch archives, which wasn't very well formatted imo.

Now imagine how likely it is now for any non-Korean to try for GSL? It's not like we had many in the first place, but now Stephano has forfeited his Code S spot and that now appears to be an absolutely genius move. I seem to recall NaNiWa said he intended to return to Korea. I would highly advise against doing this, given the circumstances.
This sucks for Koreans. It sucks for Americans and Europeans. Mostly, it sucks for players from countries that get destroyed by North America/Europe as much as North America/Europe gets destroyed by Korea.
