At the media day held on the 4th, a few things were announced that may pique the interest of people;

- Opening Day (8th December) will begin with EG-Liquid taking on KT Rolster, followed by STX Soul vs SK Telecom T1. The next day will have reigning champions CJ ENTUS against Woongjin Stars, and Team 8 vs Samsung KHAN.

- There is a total prize pool of 300,000,000 KRW for the whole season (approximately $275,000 USD). It is the largest prize pool offered for Proleague in its history.

- The new maps to be used this round are Planet S, Caldeum, Arkanoid and Bifrost. It is unknown which ladder maps have made the cut.

- Games will broadcast at mid-day on OGN during weekends, while SPOTV begins their broadcast at 5pm KST on Monday and Tuesdays.

Prize pool distribution known?

That's a freaking huge prize pool, bigger than the BWC.

I'd thought that proleague was doing worse since they switched to Sc2, but the highest prizepool might suggest otherwise?

iNcontroL has been rumored to be TLEG's ace player.

With that said, really cool they're upping the price pools a lot. That's a quite crazy sum right there.

This shit just keeps getting insane!! EG-TL have an awesome chance of doing well in this as well, considering it's all SC2 and they have decent squads. No wonder EG are sending over the big guns to the EG Lab (EG Korean House) if the prize fund is $275,000!!!!!

And to top it off they are opening up vs KT!!!

Flash vs Hero/Taeja/IdrA/Stephano....oh please make that happen!

New maps going be interesting, i hope EG send it's players over pretty quickly so they can practice on these maps ASAP

The diablo theme map is Caldeum, not Planet S I guess, Caldeum is the city name in Act II of Diablo III.

Well, the companies behind it can inject quite a lot of money in it if they want to. The real question is whether the investment will pay off for them enough to continue doing so.

Btw foreigners so lucky, getting the easiest opponent in the first round.

But Taeja, HerO and Demuslim are all going to be at NASL. Not sure this is going to work out as well for EG.Liquid as one would like to see. Other news, I'll be watching this :D.

Great for the name value, not so great for the gameplay. Flash just stomped DRG, I don't think Idra would have that much of a chance against a fully prepared Flash.

Rounds 1, 3, 4 and 6 are normal PL format, 6 matches with pre determined players and then an ace match if it goes 3-3.

Round 2 and 5 are going to be all-kill.

If you want a good example, the Korea vs World team league event that just ended at IPL5 used PL format on day 1 and all-kill on day 2.

Afraid it is not an all kill format ;;

It is;

Team A Player 1 vs Team B Player 1
Team A Player 2 vs Team B Player 2
Team A Player 3 vs Team B Player 3
Team A Player 4 vs Team B Player 4
Team A Player 5 vs Team B Player 5
Team A Player 6 vs Team B Player 6

Then if it is tied 3-3, each team nominate 1 "ACE" player to battle it out in a BO3 to see who takes the match.

More importantly, how to get the stream/vods?

Which are the 6 best players in EG-TL?

Taeja, Hero for sure. Likely Stephano. Is puma still good? JYP? Is sea making any progress? Demuslim maybe? Is Thorzain still EG-cursed? Can zenio make the top 6?

edit: dafuq, that was the first time I pressed "post" and get sent to a thread with my new post not being the last! rawr must have made his post between my post being sent, and the thread reloading to my computer.

3 zeroes too many in the Korean prize money, I doubt it's 274 million dollars prize money.

If Jaedong leaves Team 8 they are going to be the new Air Force ace, the weakest team by far.

They will have Baby, Failhoon, a SKT Zerg and some other guys.

oh, and Terminator.

Isnt it obvious? Kespa is trying to stay relevant by trying to make alot more people interested in SC2. Hence, giant prizepool.
Interesting to see if it will work.

Doubt if Idra will get to play a lot in his current state, although I'd love it because I like him.
I'm hoping for some sort of Flash All-Kill cause that'd be the most exciting upset!

Also hope Bisu gets to it soon, don't want to see him fall off :[

Yeah, I'm pretty sure people would be upset if Flash would all-kill in a non-all-kill match format ^^

Blizzard or some other sc2 sponsor (like one of the gsl ones) would have contributed a large chunk of its money to the prize pool.

unless some high level/rich skt exec like loves sc2 for some reason more than everything else. kespa companies sponsor lots of teams (in sports and in esports), so I wouldn't expect sk planet to just randomly increase prize pool to historic high when sc2 obviously isn't reaching the level of like 2007 esports in korea.

it's nice to hear that the players will at least be supported still. asides from maybe a team 8 collapse.

that price pool is ridiculous, some how I don't know if it's appreciable since alot of players are still playing at a low level.

Strong team and really deep. I can see Kespa teams sending a Zerg to try and snipe stephano and hitting Taeja or Idra instead. I'm going to get so little sleep next year.

Yea, some of them seems quite bad.
I like Caldeum though, just by looking at it at least. Desert Flower(which some say is Planet S just another texture) looks too small and very terran biased imo and don't like it too much.
Arkanoid however, is the one to look for. By the looks of it, it wouldn't work at all, but there is some unique features about it, perhabs it could make for some entertaining games.
Also, anyone know what is next to natural on Caldeum? since it's small pictures I cant see, there is some destrucible rocks but then something I'm not sure what is, can it really be mineral wall? because that wouldn't make sense when rocks already there
Hell, it's about time

Oh well, atleast we've got 4 new maps. Shame transistor didn't get put in the pool, I thought it looked great.

4 new maps - this is the best news about the PL. I hate to stare at the same old maps over and over again and i also hate what kinda metagame they have established (often a no rush 15). It's boring to watch and i'm looking forward to once again more aggressive games.

I kinda like Tal'Darim without rocks on 3rd, often gives great games tbh. Ohana and Cloud Kingdom I don't like at all, never did.
We recently seen that even in PvP most people are now easily able to defect 4 gates on Tal'Darim, making it not bad in PvP either.

Anyone know if KeSPA looks into updating their map pool after each round because I'd be very sad if they are stuck playing TDA, Ohana and Antiga for another year. It'll be interesting to see how the new maps work out but I'm suprised they decided to go with Arkanoid as it seems very gimmicky even though Fantasy's game yesterday was suprisingly entertaining.

Meh, they have no chance against the Shining Star of the West. Even if 80% of the team is Korean. I'm calling them that anyways. Deal with it.

It is quite usual in the old one year proleagues to change the map pool in between two rounds. But not always.

How can the prize-pool be so huge? I bet blizzard had something to do with this. With how the scene went down with the arrival of SC2 it strikes me odd that suddenly the prize pool gets higher.

Come on everyone, it's so simple. One season = 2 old seasons, because it's a whole year long.
In prize/per time it's probably lower.

Where do you get this? I've seen 0 official sources saying anything of these sorts, only random people stating it.
And even if, they have had seasons at 1 year before, still making it the highest prize pool

TDA might actually be okay in the current meta, broodlords are not very good on it and that will make a lot of people happy. It's a good map for mobile units for zerg, ling/bane/muta.

How does it work? Is there a maximum number of players a team can register at the beginning of the season? Can they change the roster at some point?

A bit sad that both of EGTL's best players (and most likely aces), HerO and TaeJa, are not there for the opening match. Will be tough for the rest alone to be succesful. Possible but very hard.

On the other hand if they win without them it will be pretty hype.

This is a chance for players that otherwise wouldn't get to play in every match, like Zenio.

Might be just me, but i really don't see that prizepool being that amazing, considering you've got to commit for a whole year, and that it's shared between a lot of players, it's seems pretty cheap :d (compared to the prize pool of the events we already have now and are over in a week-end, it really really isn't impressive at all :|)

Also, since the matches seems to be played on monday, doesn't it prevent a lot of the player playing in it to travel to foreign event? : /

Note that i'm new and know nothing about the ProLeague, it's fame and it's crazy fans and i'm just looking at the numbers in a neutral perspective, no need to hate me :p

I'm the only one here to think that TDA is a good map and Antiga, Ohana and Cloud Kingdom sucks ? O_O

I think that without rocks TDA is more fun to play and watch than the other over-used maps. I prefer a great show with some unbalanced maps than a boring tournament with some imbalanced maps (yeah Antiga and stuff are not balanced neither)

Amazing news indeed, i'm really excited about this!

Speaking of which, does anyone know if it will be broadcasted like GOMTV does with GS(T)L (by purchasing a season ticket)? If so, does anyone have any links? I tried googling for SPOTV without success, and ongamenet website is not opening here (not sure if it is a problem with my connection or if the site is down / address i have is wrong or blocked).

i admire all your determination, but to think that a foreigner could take a game off of a proleague player is just... lol

may i remember you: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/2012_MLG_vs_Proleague_Invitational#Results

and proleague players played sc2 just for some month back then. they didnt get worse ofc.
every foreigner playing there would be just a present for the kespa teams.
perhaps in matches with no meaning.

Thans, I apologize for my bad english

If mid-day means 12:00 (which i'd think):
Saturday and Sunday at 12:00 KST meaning 04:00 CET and as you're in London that should be 03:00 i think... And that should be the time for this match.

On Monday and Tuesday they begin at 17:00 KST meaning 09:00 CET, so 08:00 for you if i'm not wrong.

The only top 5 foreigner there is naniwa.
And he had a positive record.
MvP was a mess and cross-server, so the results don't say much anyway.

Saying that Stephano can't take a game off a proleague player after he beat 4 gsl champions in a row is just...lol.

I would also like to think there is a huge amount of unheard champions playing in the proleague. I mean, most them were really skilled in BW and the skill transfers pretty well on some players as we've seen from a decent amount of players already. I'm quite certain Stephano will finish with a positive win/loss ratio, though. Although i don't know how often we'll see him in action. No idea how Thorzain will perform, although i don't expect him to finish the season with positive stats.

Anyway, it's gonna be very good.

edit: Will definitely cheer for Flash though. :p

While i agree with you when you say it will be really hard, i disagree when you say it will be "just a present for the kespa teams". These guys now have the same environment and support for training as the koreans do. Also they have the same (if not more) motivation to play and show results.

It's not fanboyism, one cheers and supports his sports teams in any situation, despite if the opponent is better or worse. And even if they lose to korean teams, this will bring some attention back to the scene, maybe get the interest of new sponsors that will support more tournaments and keep the development of the community/eSports in general which is something we all want regardless of team we cheer for or game we play.

I think no one has nothing to lose with this situation at all. We gotta be more optimistic and look at it from a broader angle.

Hope you understand what i've tried to say, english is not one of my best skills hehe.

I'd assume from TL's perspective, not the GSTL itself. Would be too time consuming to participate in two offline teamleagues plus individual leagues plus oversea tournaments. All we need now is a grand final between PL and GSTL winning teams at the end of the year.

Isnt that what their plan is? Play in Korea, because they are establishing mutual team house there? Now playing only in the PL and not in GSTL or GSL would be strange.

Incontrol should be there. Honeymoon in Korea. Dates at pro league studio. Doesn't get more romantic than that!

The prize pool seems big but GOMTV paid well over 1 billion won in prize money in 2012, and assuming 3 OSLs in 2013 OGN will end up paying out around 600 million won in prize money, so at least for 2013 they'll be behind in SC2.

Stop making prize pools a competition, they don't matter at all.

Prize money is just the cream of the top, what we need to aim for is better wages, rather than 5% of the players getting a good bonus, all need to be able to live off playing the game, which prize pools wont help with too much
Hell, it's about time

Doubt that

GSTL seems kinda redundant

How so?

I'd assume from TL's perspective, not the GSTL itself. Would be too time consuming to participate in two offline teamleagues plus individual leagues plus oversea tournaments. All we need now is a grand final between PL and GSTL winning teams at the end of the year.

Isnt that what their plan is? Play in Korea, because they are establishing mutual team house there? Now playing only in the PL and not in GSTL or GSL would be strange.

It isn't a mutual team house, it's just EG's house in Korea.

JYP/Sea/Zenio/Puma/HuK and then the ??? player and maybe IdrA in case he already is in Korea by then.

A lineup that doesn't seem good enough to beat KT to me, but we'll see.

I'd be surprised if TLEG can beat KT without HerO, Taeja and Stephano but I'm looking forward to it anyways.

Isn't Stephano going to be in Korea in time for the match? If so, I can see him winning a match against any of the KT players, even Flash. And Huk might stand a chance too considering he knocked out Action in the last Code A prelims.

Thorzain and Stephano too right? I think they could compete since there isn't really anyone else notable from KT so far in SC2 besides Flash.

and proleague players played sc2 just for some month back then. they didnt get worse ofc.
every foreigner playing there would be just a present for the kespa teams.
perhaps in matches with no meaning.

The only top 5 foreigner there is naniwa.
And he had a positive record.
MvP was a mess and cross-server, so the results don't say much anyway.

Saying that Stephano can't take a game off a proleague player after he beat 4 gsl champions in a row is just...lol.

try to stay realistic despite the fanboyism.

Even if you accept his argument, the Liquid part of the team is all Korean and the EG part has a couple of Koreans, EG-Liquid is by no means a pure foreigner lineup, far from it, half and half or over 50% korean looks lik ethe way it will be.

Also, Stephano is fucking good at this game. He easily ranks with most top tier Koreans.

How long will Liquid be a "foreigner" team anyway? Is it all about who owns the team? If you don't include Nazgul, the team is half Korean. The way things have been going the next time a player retires or gets signed that balance will tip to mostly korean players. What kind of a foreigner team is mostly Korean?

Note: I'm not saying Liquid has been doing something bad, the Liquid Koreans are players any team would want.

Edit: Idra just said on stream he wasn't sure when his next tourney is, will he not be around for the first few matches or something, just not mentioning this?

Dang. They will need to assemble quickly too. If they play too much of the first round shorthanded like this they will fall behind the standings quickly. Hopefully the holdouts who are there can hold down the fort, especially for their first match without Taeja, HerO, and Demuslim.

I have a simple question for anyone willing to answer it: Are any ESF teams participating in the Kespa Proleague, and if not, why not? Why wouldn't they have all the best teams from both sides competing?

There are none this season

The problem is that you have to pay to get into proleague, and the prize is too high for ESF teams apparently

Maybe there are some other reasons but I think that's the more "official" one

Oh I forgot about those 2 lol that would be 6 so yeah kind of a shame that most of the big guns of EG/TL the more popular ones like idra/stephano/hero/taeja since those are kind of heavy fan favorites.

So is Korean new year not the same as western new year? Find December 8th to be a rather weird time to start a year long tournament.

CJ will win again

-_-

Hope TL/EG doesn't embarrass itself too badly though, sucks that they'll be playing with such a thin lineup at first.

A lineup that doesn't seem good enough to beat KT to me, but we'll see.

Isn't Stephano going to be in Korea in time for the match? If so, I can see him winning a match against any of the KT players, even Flash. And Huk might stand a chance too considering he knocked out Action in the last Code A prelims.

Nope.

I am FINALLY home after a crazy tournament month. I have 2 week of resting after what I chain with Millenium house tournament and HSC!

Bummer.

He'll be a valuable asset for EG-TL once he gets to Korea. I hope the full roster assembles soon.

Pro league is going to be an entire year, but I only expect stephano to play a handful of matches during that time.

I hope we'll at least get a Stephano vs Jaedong match. The master vs the fanboy. It's a matchup that must be played eventually.
Jaedong is the fanboy?
Because it was Jaedong who asked Stephano for an autograph, said that he loves him, and was looking up to him for learning. Stephano, on the other hand, didn't even know the story of Jaedong much before.

So unless my ears weren't working properly, IdrA just said on his stream that he doesn't know if he's going to Korea or not and is currently practicing HotS full time because he doesn't really expect to be playing many tournaments.

The biggest thing here is the prize pool.

It still doesn't stack up with LoL (which has a $230,000 prize pool for just one of their probable 4 seasonal tournaments), but it shows that OGN still has faith in SC2 and are trying to make this a success.

I'm curious who this last unannounced player is? I'm speculating it's probably ByuL? But heres a crazy theory, Naniwa is currently without team and in need of a new home in Korea, he forfeited his Ro16 match's against Polt in the NASL which just happens to be the same weekend as EGTL vs KT. Although it's highly unlikely I'd pay good money to see Naniwa and Idra live under the same roof

The prize pool is pretty amazing, will be interesting to see how the maps play out.

The map pool will be the hardest challenge for EGTL imo, I don't think many ESF players will be up for custom games as much on maps they never play on.

Hopefully Blizzard/Gom/Kespa/Everyone else in Korea really put a lot of effort into marketing HOTS.

That is such a big prize-pool. How exactly is that split up? Does the winning team get it all? How did Kespa teams distribute it when they have won it in the past? Even split between players, or do they give more to the players who played more or won more games?

So we've established:

Sea, Zenio, Huk, Puma, JYP.

Then Thorzain possibly, he might play in HSVI though due to the hints they've posted.

Idra isn't due to Korea til next year.

Stephano is playing in HSCVI, I assume he'll go at the same time as Idra or thereabouts.

Taeja, Hero and Demuslim are playing in NASL.

That leaves the unlikely candidates: Tyler, Sheth, Incontrol, Machine, LzGamer - none of whom seem likely to go to Korea any time soon, unless Incontrol goes just as a captain/coach. Or decides to take Flash on, which would be freaking awesome to see just because I bet he could devise a sniping strategy involving void rays that would change the meta.

Then TLO who might go back, who knows. And possible new recruits for either team - Major, Naniwa, Revival, Byul...

Unless Nazgul is planning on playing it's going to be a pretty restricted lineup for this - arguably the most important - game.

The teams, the maps, and the prize pool really make this proleague my personal most anticipated event in awhile. I'm not really so sure how the old maps will fare in sc2 but I'm curious to see how the kespa players adapt to the maps and how the liquid and EG members adapt to the maps as well. Just these couple of hours has brought so much excitement to the scene and I'm so pumped! ^ ^

Should maybe add

Saturday, Dec 08 3:00am GMT (GMT+00:00)

to the OP. So that people don't need to ask for the time it happens. Just tried the date function the first time, it doesn't seem to work with just the time, does it?

I'm asking, not bashing (?). Wasn't sure what he meant. I guess I didn't get the irony. Sure Jaedong is a fanboy of Stephano, but then "Master" also fits Jaedong better than Stephano, because he's older and is a legend. I wouldn't choose exactly this combo of words.

Anyway, responded to this exactly, because I also want to see Stephano vs Jaedong so bad... please, please. It has to happen.

That prize-pool is incredible, $275,000 USD far outstrips any prize-pool that GSTL has ever given. Really looking forward to this one, and the Liquid-EG collaboration should be fun to watch, though the best of TL and DeMusliM are missing.

Anyone have predictions? I think SKT will win proleague, having Boxer as head coach is fantastic plus Rain and soO are maybe the two best Kespa players, Fantasy should have switched over by now and have potential, and then Dark could show some promise.

EG-Liquid will get top 4 if they take it seriously, 7th-8th if they concentrate more on foreign tournaments.

KHAN, KT, STX, and CJ could all get 2nd theoretically or even challenge for first, Stars and T8 will likely be in the bottom half.

Additionally will that season ticket provide vods for those of us who can't watch it while its on and will those vods be in English? Considering how big of a deal it is/the community is making this I would love to see one of the teams (EG or TL) post information on how the foreign community can support the league by either purchasing a season pass or just watching it while its online. Would also hope to see PL embrace the foreign scene and give us a site in English to utilize. If this exists please forgive me as I'm clearly not in the know but I want to be!

"In 2013, the following players will spend time in our new Korean training facility"

Spend time =/= always there

"They will be participants in our roster for Proleague"

On the roster =/= available for every match

Since Proleague is all year and HOTS is March, Idra could be participating for the remaining nine months.

Planet S is most likely a retexture of Desert Flower from this thread. During the KT vs SKT match a few nights ago, they used a version of Desert Flower that had the name "Planet S" textured onto it.

Wait what? Planet S? I'm not aware of this map! How come I haven't heard anything about it? D: I'm even subscribed to the KeSPA Proleague map thread...

EDIT: My being out of the loop aside, does anyone know where I can find this Planet S map? I wanna know what it's like.

Planet S is most likely a retexture of Desert Flower from this thread. During the KT vs SKT match a few nights ago, they used a version of Desert Flower that had the name "Planet S" textured onto it.

All right, sweet. So Desert Flower it is, then. Glad that my two favourite maps of the bunch got picked -- I figured they would perform the best!

You heretic obviously CJ will win and Effort will be recognized as the premier player of Heart of the Swarm

With that said, really cool they're upping the price pools a lot. That's a quite crazy sum right there.

Counting "top" SC2 players by team (and this is mostly opinion):

SKT: Rain, soO
CJ: herO[join]
KT: Flash
STX: Bogus, Trap
T8: ?
KHAN: RorO
Stars: Soulkey
TLEG: Stephano, HerO, Taeja

Of course things will change but TLEG is starting out as one of the better teams, as KesPA teams catch up they will slip a bit but not to the bottom.

Stephano isn't there as well well and it isn't all-kill format so you can't rely on just one players.
I think they have a chance bit without those three it will be hard. With them I think they can beat any team.

That's a fairly superficial way of looking at things, though.

If you consider the fact that Kespa teams put Proleague as their absolute highest priority, that it's not just something they do in between traveling to individual events, that they'll have a full roster available every week (the foreign team won't), that they don't stream all the time, that there are exclusive maps that you can't grind on ladder and will have to rely on your internal training regime to master, that a BO7 PL format will mean you're still going to lose if ALL the players aren't committed to Proleague for its entire duration.

It won't be surprising at all to see foreign team players drop games to Paralyze and Ssak, let alone S-Class players. They might get lucky during Winners League rounds and win a few matches, but against prepared snipers on a fixed map even that much will be quitE difficult.

Team 8 will likely be the bottom as things stand now, but there's a very slim chance for the foreign team to outrank STX or KT at the end of the season.

Last season T8 wasn't doing that bad, they got to playoffs and finished in 4th place so I hope they won't be at the bottom again. They have Cezanne as coach after all.

The problem with T8 is that you just listed their entire roster. Do they even have 6 people to play a full Bo7?

Barring them recruiting someone like PirateZerg, I can't imagine they won't struggle.

That's a bold statement
We haven't really seen the skill of the players that aren't stars on their team. We know that the top Kespa guys are at about the same level as the top eSF guys, but this format is all about the entire team. We pretty much know about the level of all of the EG and Liquid guys and they aren't THAT far apart from each other in terms of skill. I HIGHLY doubt they will place low in PL. In fact, I think Winner's Rounds will favor Kespa teams because it's unlikely TLEG will be able to field Stephano, Taeja and HerO in all of those rounds whereas Kespa teams will always have their full roster at hand.
It's gonna be hard (and maybe a little unrealistic) to win the whole thing (I certainly think the team is going to lose against KT on week 1 considering the absence of the top players), but I would be very surprised if we find the unholy alliance at the bottom

tldr: The elephants are here, but we don't know how good the baby elephants are and that's going to decide this season.

Well, skill is a very vague metric. A player doesn't necessarily have to be "better" than his opponent in order to win a Proleague match - it's just a single game on a fixed map, the more prepared player can easily win versus a "better" one that didn't focus as hard on his PL map and possible opponents.

The point is that Kespa teams have a set of clear, practical and logistical advantages that will skew the odds in their favor (format, maps, long season, schedules, practice regimen etc). Their players would have to be considerably worse than the foreign team players to negate all these advantages, and they're definitely not considerably worse.

Even from the first round roster, it's pretty clear that the foreign team won't be as committed to the Proleague in a competitive sense. It's only a slightly more serious approach than when Liquid were playing in GSTL, but they allowed Taeja, Ret and Sheth to go play in some Red Bull thing instead and TLO streamed and played showmatches and whatnot in the meantime.

The team is mostly there to raise viewership and overall popularity of the league, it actually works beautifully for both sides promotion-wise.

Well... I think the main difference we'll see next year is that, with the Kespa-MLG-Dreamhack cooperation, we won't have that many overlapping tournaments. I agree that Kespa teams have a couple of advantages, I guess I just disagree with the impact those will have on the scoreboard.
However, it's not like Kespa teams' players stay in Korea all the time. We've seen them at MLG and I'm pretty sure they would like to play in more foreign tournaments next year.

Only Koreans representing Teamliquid. Symptomatic. Will there ever be new foreign teamliquider? Will team teamliquid take on same role as teamliquid forum - promoting global e-sports for the sake of e-sports. Not like today - optimalizing use Korean assets for the sake of self succes [sport and finantial].

No point in going on about why you think TL-EG will fail. Just wait until you see some results, then you can speak with more certainty...we're talking about SC2 bo1s after all .

They're playing KT Rolster, not SKT1. And I'm pretty sure they're taking this seriously. The decision for joining Proleague was probably quite some time after NASL started (the reason Taeja, HerO, Stephano and Demuslim won't be there for week 1).

Korean players have good infrastructure to begin with and plenty of teams to nurture their talent. Foreign players struggle. Teamliquid is powerful organisation, one of the few who have ability to not be tied for every penny they spend, penny in question being based on sponsor's money depending on big wins needed yesterday.

In the long run lack of foreign [international] competition will be death of starcraft e-sports, just wait and see. Also in Korea - SC:BW phenomenon cannot be repeat. So I belive we need to make some foreign force building their image on "Fighiting Koreans in their domination", and behind that rising talents from lower levels.

I was trash talking. It's PL season, isn't that what we're supposed to do now? I mean, it's obvious Team 8 is going to dominate, anyone can see that.

Also, I expect Stephano to crash and burn in PL.

Even Flash who was godly in broodwar has so many holes in his play. Soulkey made it to Ro8 last season of

GSL but as we all know he also has so many things to fix. Innovation and Rain are the top Kespa guys

without a doubt, but sadly thats it. If I were to name top non-kespa players Id have a pretty long list: Hero(not esf though)

I dont disagree with the argument that top Kespa players can beat any top non kespa pros, but my point is that the

number of top notch players in Kespa is so small.

I wish Kespa wouldn't be... I don't even know what to call it - stupid? incompetent? not caring? I mean, Proleague is starting in 2 days and few hours and only thing we know about broadcasts is this:

There will be english broadcasts for weekend matches on OGN twitch commentated by Doa and Montecristo, with VoDs available, possibly for a subsription fee.

We don't know if there will be english broadcasts for weekdays matches. If yes, will we have VoDs available? Subscription based? Free? Same subscription as for weekend matches or different one? If no english for weekdays, will we have at least access to Korean broadcasts? What about VoDs from that?

How are we supposed to support the most prestigious teamleague in the world if we don't know any of this? How are we supposed to hype it up? I don't want to say that 'no one cares' about foreign audience, but.... That's really what it looks like.

Anybody know how proleague will handle the release of HotS in March? Will they switch in the middle or will they play WoL for the entire year?

EG-TL are going to take the throne.

The only throne they're taking is the one vacated by Air Force ACE.

Counting "top" SC2 players by team (and this is mostly opinion):

SKT: Rain, soO
CJ: herO[join]
KT: Flash
STX: Bogus, Trap
T8: ?
KHAN: RorO
Stars: Soulkey
TLEG: Stephano, HerO, Taeja

Of course things will change but TLEG is starting out as one of the better teams, as KesPA teams catch up they will slip a bit but not to the bottom.

I was trash talking. It's PL season, isn't that what we're supposed to do now? I mean, it's obvious Team 8 is going to dominate, anyone can see that.

Also, I expect Stephano to crash and burn in PL.

Agreed. I'm also predicting KT Stats to make a name for himself.

Liquid Geniuses has a very good chance of winning Proleague because they'll have such a deep roster of strong players while no KeSPA team currently has anything to match it.

My honest predictions:

No one of the Code S caliber guys will do anyhing and a final match between penguin and Incontrol/NoNy will decide it in a 95 minute game of pure awesomeness in favor of TG/EL :D

I think they have a very strong case for winning it all but if half there best players are at NASL they probably wont win opening day.

Before I launch into a mini-rant here let me clarify by saying that the Elephant was defeated. We all were able to rejoice this year and see that GSL was not, in fact, a farce.

With that said, you're SOOOOOOOOOO wrong with this:

The only top Kespa players who can go toe to toe aginst esf players are Rain, innovation and soulkey.

You're saying a player has to reach GSL RO8 to be considered going toe to toe against ESF players? That's ridiculous. What about all the MvP results? What about Flash's 4th place finish at MLG? What about the hordes of KESPA players that made it through Code A qualifers this season and last season? There's a double standard here. It's been several seasons since Creator and DRG have been RO8 at GSL and yet you list them among the top players.

There's been a grand total of two GSL Code S tournaments with Kespa players in them. There will absolutely be more Kespa players in the RO8 than just the three that you listed there in the seasons to come because many of them are already at that skill level they just haven't had quite enough opportunity to show it yet.

Kespa is probably still the in the "only korean viewers matter" group and slowly transitioning.
It's kinda sad it takes so long tough, last OSL season i couldn't watch any stream cause it was laggy as hell till the second semi finals.
They simply need to advertise better with the foreigner viewers somehow, a simple twitch tv channel aint enough here.

So because a player's not perfect, he can't match up against ESF players? We've had little opportunity to see most of the Kespa players, and others like Roro and CJ Hero have already shown that they can take on the top ESF players. People are so quick to go "Oh, this player sucks now" just because they have one bad result. That's not how things work.

Because:

A) It's the biggest and oldest team league in e-sports.
B) It involves Teamliquid. This site is Teamliquid. Wow.
C) It involves EG, one of the most popular foreign teams.
D) There has been new information being released. People want information.
E) Flash.

Nothing changed in that matter I guess. But I dont't understand. Is it because it's a foreign team on PL or because EG and TL holds hands for it? It's obvious PL would open up for the foreign scene sooner or later. Their list of teams is growing shorter and shorter and sc2 isn't all that big in Korea, so only thing they can do is open up on the west. As for EG and TL, no team have good and big enough roster to play there on their own, so it's only natural that the teams with the best koreans in their roster united to compete. I don't know how could it come as a surprise to anyone. Maybe it's all just because PL has been so mythical during the BW era.

Hold on, if EG vs KT is opening match, does this mean we could have a JD vs Flash at the first match of Proleague?

That's exactly what it means.

I find it funny that people still don't realize a lot of the pro's they're talking about were actually KeSPA players prior.

Sad to say, but it's looking that way.

T8 gonna pull a FXO and end up in the finals despite losing star players.

Jaedong joins EG? Then I hear this? So they'll be playing Flash, right?

Yep. Definitely cursed.

Leenock

who did FXO lose besides Oz? They kept Leenock like CeriseCherries said and they have GuMiho still. sC was a star level player once upon a time but no time recently

EG curse does not apply to JD because there's no way he's ever being lazy...that's just not who he is, even if he wins like 10 straight GSL's he'll still be working just as hard to improve himself.

So yeah I may have JD colored glasses

Well, Sea and Jaedong teammates once again, at least in Proleague!

Team 8 is gonna struggle sooo hard this season....unless Baby can pull miracles off and Failhoon gets his shit together.

Matchups for the first week have been released.
http://esports.dailygame.co.kr/news/read.php?id=70217

It looks like we won't get FvJ unless it's the ace match

Based on my limited understanding of Korean, Flash is playing in set 1 and Jaedong is playing in set 4.
