I've been playing for a long time now. I've been able to get to at least Diamond level with each race but have yet to just pick one. I feel that it's really hindering me from getting to a higher level of play and it bugs me constantly.
Most people just tell me to play whatever is fun. I find all three races fun. I couldn't really pinpoint which one is the most fun because, for me, they're all fun in different ways.
I think Protoss is fun because of the strength of their pushes and relative safety early game against Zerg. I love their unit compositions and upgrades (Blink, Charge, Storm, etc) and the sheer power they have as a massive group late game. I find playing as Protoss is the least stressful of the races. The only two things I don't like about Protoss are the immobility of their army and their mirror matchup.
I think Terran is fun because of the many different build options you have and the ability to deviate from those builds almost instantly by lifting up and switching addons. I love microing the bio armies and harassing with efficient drops and leaving scott free. I find playing as Terran is moderately stressful, but it depends on the matchup. The only two things I don't like about Terran are the lack of staple tier 3 units and their mirror matchup.
I think Zerg is fun because of the high speed of their armies and the ability to either put on nonstop pressure or put on a little pressure and just expand across the entire map and safely get up your tier 3 units. This is the race I started off playing in WoL (never played BW) and, while I had lots of fun, sought to explore the other races. I find playing as Zerg to be quite stressful, especially in their mirror matchup during mid-game fights and early-game Ling/Bling wars. Thee only two things I don't like about Zerg are the semi-limited scouting abilities and their mirror matchup,
What do you guys thinks I should do to finally pick my race? Play 50 games with each race and pick the one with the most wins? Flip a (three sided?) coin? If you'd like, please share what your deciding, race-picking factor made you choose said race.

I don't think Zerg have limited scouting (Overlords, creep, changelings, speedlings, burrowed roaches etc).
Anyway, I had a similar dilemma and chose the race which had the most bearable mirror matchup.

Hiyo, I'm random myself currently in Masters and honestly - i dont think you HAVE to pick one race. There are a lot of reasons to stick playing all 3 races, one of them for sure is : that you get alo less bored of the game. Playing only 3 match ups can get monotone and boring really fast.(especially if there is for example 1 mirror that you might already dislike alot)
But if you really feel like you have to decide on one race, i would not pick the one where you have the highest winrates - as that will change sooner or later and might frustrate you the same way as the other races, once you've hit the wall.
Also unless you really want to go "PRO" i dont think it really matters one bit if you are Diamond, Masters, Silver or whatever. Enjoy the ride and the different ways you can enjoy the game with.

A possibility is to just play two races rather than three; you’ll already improve faster and the choice is less difficult. Try to stop playing the race you like the least (even if it’s by a small margin).

I would pick zerg, saves you a lot of frustration However I find TvT the most fun mirror to play

You can always play random, don't see a problem in that, as long as you're having fun. I started as toss coz of the lore, switched to zerg, coz it was the weakest at that time, then to terran coz nobody played it on the ladder and then just went full on random.Playing random has it's own advantages as well.

I picked Protoss because I played them in BW, and they always felt the most natural to my style of play. That being said, I've really enjoyed Zerg and wouldn't have minded playing them either. Terran I loved in BW but never got very good with, but they are nowhere near as fun to play in SC2.

If you like all 3 races, random is best option for you, same with me

You're lucky to love the 3 races, I'd play random without hesitating. I was a random master player, but I love terran and protoss while I don't like zerg very much so I'd prefer to have the option to play random with 2 races only. You don't have that problem, so don't be stopped by an idea of potential promotion if you play one race and play random !

I feel Terran has a lot of variation and the best mirror matchup, Zerg has the most potential and gratification in playing well and Protoss is just pretty straightforward and strong.
I have personally chosen to play random because I just want to get a good all-around understanding of the game, but if I were to pick a race I'd go for Zerg because it makes me feel like I can do so much more to play better.

Well the problem here is you don't like any mirror matchup. >>>Play any race you want :p. Honestly, until you're maybe top master/gm it doesn't truly matter what race you play. However, it may be more difficult/take you longer to achieve that level if you aren't practicing a single race full-time. The only way to choose a race is to understand the play styles that come with each and decide from there with how ever you like to play.

Pick Protoss, You need good Macro, Micro, Multitasking and Position and you have to play perfect or you can just flat out lose games. I love Protoss because they were my favorite race in Broodwar and My favorite pros happen to be Protoss as well so that only really helps with my decision.
Better yet just role a dice and 1,3 are Terran 2,4 Protoss 5,6 Zerg That would work. If you play with that one race a whole bunch and don't like it you know you have a diamond level of the other races to fall back on.

sorry but you should be able to determine what race you will be better at or enjoy playing more depending on your goals with this game...

Possibly biased post, imho terran is the race where high gamesense, map awareness and darn good multitasking is needed. Basicly terran is neither easy to start nor easy to master as a race and inspires me to give everything i can everytime. And i think they have the most complete and intelligent unit set right from the start, thats the reason they only have quite dull new units in hots.
Besides that i like their unit sounds and can relate to them best on a personal level as i am a terran myself ;-)

Stay random. If you want to improve, playing random for a long time is the best bet. Once you hit masters level, then you can begin to refine your play with a specific race.
Playing random helps you learn the strengths and weaknesses of all races. With enough experience, you know exactly what type of game play is frustrating/difficult when you play X race against Y race.

I am biased to Terran and actually TvT is all about positioning and seizing oppotunity I am masters and play aggresive with T and almost always I catch my opponent out of position and deal damage Dealing damage, any kind of damage is important as T as you will almost always fall behind if you dont put pressure Never overextend as being aggresive is a double edge sword and always pick your fights

The problem sounds familiar :D I played random since I bought the game a year ago, starting this season I switched to Terran only. Every now and then I still miss PvT's and ZvZ's and ZvP's, luckily my dislike on the other MU's of those two races is strog enough so I knew that terran only would be the best for me. Terran and Zerg are the two most complete races atm, as with both of them you can play several styles and they both have decent chances and army compositions at every stage of the game. If you want to play aggressive I'd suggest either Terran or Zerg, PvZ and PvP are stupidly stagnant matchups nowadays. On the other hand, PvT is probably the best MU of the game at the moment.

play the race which is accomplishing the least at the moment. it feels good when you win in those hard matchups or think of newer tactics
