Facts prove that this is about 70% of people who start to play the game. IMHO the majority of people who WOULD be interested in Starcraft have already played it, gotten whooped up, and decided that it was too hard. Of course, these people who quit playing usually blame it on something else like, it's boring, it's repetitive, some shit about balance, or something about how much time it takes- all of which are complete BS but make fantastic excuses. Can you cite your source on the 70% stat? Thanks.

That being said, I think Destiny's point are all very valid, My roommates and I would play LoL for a good while because: 1) you get points for every game played and you feel like you're advancing even if you lose 4 games in a row 2) It was a hell of a lot of fun. Starcraft was always more of a project for me. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it sometimes felt like I was practicing the piano or something and I would burn out after about 2 hours of play. However, I never watch LoL because while its fun to play, I couldn't care less about watching others play it because its just not that interesting to watch. I would much rather watch players playing a more difficult game; but without any casual fan base, the money just won't be there.

I recomend Doa's and Grubby's talk, they have some great thoughts about the case . Also, Destiny such a whiner, can't he just play LoL?

Probably can't confirm it but I can tell you when SC2 exploded at MLG, at the time I was a Halo player/coach for a number of events. Everyone I knew was buying SC2, Halo/CoD pros just about all of them bought SC2 because of the excitement it had created. To this day Pro FPS players like Ryanoob, Walshy, OpticRambo to name a few have all hit Masters in SC2 and it snowballed into i'd say over 70% of the people I knew from FPS buying SC2. Since then, only very few still play it. Most have gone to LoL other back to FPS just as is stated in the post. So it might not be factually proven but from the ground level seeing how things went, he is exactly right with what he says.

Also, Destiny such a whiner, can't he just play LoL? He does play LoL, and he gets more viewers playing LoL than a lot of extremely good SC2 players do even though he's like in the equivalent of platinum league for LoL. Will watch this video later because both grubby and doa are awesome.

TLDR: We must all remember that this is all new to us, and the first time switching games on this scale has been performed. There are lots of ideas floating around, such as these ones from Destiny, and we must work together to find the optimal solution EDIT: On October 28 2012 09:01 Tosster wrote: Because you guys have so much pressure to grow sc2 (more more MORE), you are poisoning yourselfs and other, so even if hots would be an ideal, perfect game, you'll be still thinking: game bad, not fun, social aspects bad, blizzard awful etc etc I recomend Doa's and Grubby's talk, they have some great thoughts about the case + Show Spoiler + http://youtu.be/BoOfVushqPA. That does not work to solve the problem at all; it is just a low blow at a player for no particular reason

He has basically been only streaming LoL since he made his post. It is perplexing that not more people can see through the fac that this is just a huge marketing campaign. Destiny has clearly decided to switch to LoL since some time back, now he see's an opportunity to revitalize his following by starting up this whole thing. No one has provided any statistics that backs up any of the doomsday assumptions made by destiny. Until anyone provides actual data to support it, it should be ignored.

Reminds me of some of the sternest, most responsible and caring people in my community: Asian Parents ![]() They may look like they don't care on the outside, pushing their children to extreme lengths, making them study for countless hours and making life in general excruciatingly hard...But at the end of the day they realize that it is all for the greater good and their children will grow into the best adults they can be. This parallel directly translates to how you perceive Destiny; 'When a person express himself as intensely negative about a certain activity, without being the slightest positive on the other hand' Is so inaccurate. Just like the parents, he is so in love with this game he criticizes it and looks for problems to fix so the end result can be even better. Just look at his blog posts; how much effort does he put in to each one, filled with his ideas and innovations, asking the community to get involved, etc. He is an amazing figurehead for the community, and pleading with Blizzard for change shows how physically and emotionally attached he is to this game. He has been playing since beta and has made his fortunes and life revolve around this game, and you think he is being negative just for the sake of it? He loves this game more than most people I can think of, and as I said before; He is only criticizing the game with hopes that it will improve to be the best EDIT: On October 28 2012 09:27 VanGarde wrote: Except he is actually just playing LoL. Only about twenty percent of people know that statistics need to be backed up by an actual survey or controlled experiment of some kind. But still, as Schimmetje did explicitly say, only about forty percent of people realize that people will make up whatever numbers they want to suit their needs. I guess I'm one of the ten percent that understand all of the above.

No one argues with Destiny on the fact that there is a lot of stuff we want in the game that is not there yet. The argument is regarding whether or not the game is "dying" or not. Destiny and his followers claim the game is, yet this is a claim that comes with no actual data whatsoever. No one has yet to provide a single statistic that is rooted in a solid sample size that suggests anything is wrong with sc2 as an e-sport. In real life, you have to back up such claims with evidence if you want to be listened to. The analogy falls there because there is massive amounts of evidence for global warming. The argument is made that we are supposed to just accept the assertion that the game is dying because "it makes sense" or because the previous arguments that x and y is missing from the game somehow by default also validates the second argument. This process takes you down a path of multiple logical fallacies. The only real data we have heard so far is data that supports the opposing side. Such as Nazgul linking total prize money awarded per game etc.
