Lim Yo Hwan ,SlayerS_'BoxeR', will be undergoing rehabilitation and will be taking breaks from gaming for a while during his recovery.Consequently, he will be forfeiting his Code A match against ZeNEX Line on May, 1st. Boxer said that he is very sorry for not being able to show games to his fans, but it came to a point that he couldn't even play 5 games a day, so it couldn't be helped.
It's his shoulder that is causing the problem. It has been hurting him for a very long time and he was only able to continue with medications so far. Therefore to continue on his gaming career he will have to undergo rehabilitation.
Boxer added that this decision has been made to restore his health and continuously show awesome games to his fans.He also noted that although some fans will speculate retirement due to this, but he assured that this is a momentary break and his fans should not be worried about his retirement anytime soon.

Good. Rather than avoiding the issue and perhaps making it worse, he will deal with it and recover properly. He will be a better player in the long run because of it.
As much as this sucks, it's the right move - I'm sure we'd all prefer to see Boxer get healthy again and be able to practice hard and show awesome games without having to endure tons of pain in the process. Get well soon, Boxer. We'll all be waiting for your triumphant return ^.^
I've also got to agree with sending some sort of a card to him - great idea.
Guy's back, posture, hands, wrists all have taken EXTREME beatings from being a pro gamer for what 15 years? (give or take some).. just insane he's such a fucking badass to keep going at this.
His personality of "understanding" and simply "getting it"of what it takes to be a pro gamer 100% with everything he does for the fans and loyality with SlayerS is just unreal.
Get well Boxer. My favorite Korean SC2 pro gamer and its not even close for a 2nd.
I remember seeing some of what Boxer was going through with his shoulder in Boxer's Wings, but I had no idea it had gotten this bad. Regardless, I have faith that Boxer will pull through just fine, and come back stronger than ever.
That's kind of a bummer. Must have been really bad. Made more sense to play the game vs Line and try to beat him, then forfeit to MMA. But yeah only being able to play 5 games a day is really really quite serious.
I had no idea that his shoulder problems were still such a big issue. Simply unbelievable that he has managed to keep practicing through that pain, the dedication of that man is out of this world.
Sounds like this will be a much needed break. Can't wait to see him play again.

aww.. right after he got into code S also ( it was last season but still..) Boxer was having a resurgence in his play and was beating notable players again. But i guess after 10 years of playing eventually it takes a toll upon you. Boxer FIGHTING!!
Good decision. Sad to see no BoxeR for an unknown amount of time, but I'll take that in favor of a scenario where he forces himself to play with a hurting shoulder and makes it even worse. I hope he gets well again soon <3

I remember watching those and thinking the same thing recently, I just thought that he had managed to find some way to get over it.
We really should try to organize some type of get wall card, to show him the support of the foreign community as well. It doesn't have to be in Korean per say, but could be something along the lines of what NeverGG used to.
I really hope he recovers. He overworks himself a lot, and prides himself on always putting on a great show, so if he is actually forfeiting his match it must be really bad.

This type of recovery could take a while. I hope we will still be able to see boxer in some form or another in random SlayerS streams or something like that, even if he's unable to play.
I remember in his documentary about BoxeR that he had shoulder problems, i even think he visited doctor during film and he said because he plays too much SC for long periods, causing the strain. I think we can be certain hes not retiring, he could go out like this, but he actually cares for all his fans and the emperor himself knows that going out like a wounded rabbit would be dissappointing to us all. Hope he gets the doctor who did Flash's surgery, that was wrist injury though.
This is what the captain gets for using the zero shiki drop too much. In all seriousness this sucks, starcrafts just not the same without the hope of boxer one day smashing everyone and taking his rightful place as king of sc2.
I'm sad he isn't playing, but it's for the best and futureproofing so he can play longer. I know his shoulder has been troubling him for a long time now so it's best to get it all fixed up and then make a triumphant return, like I'm sure he'll do.
NUU, but i agree, if boxer can rest, and come back better than ever, i'm down for this. Lim, Yo Hwan is one of the main reasons why i started following scbw and is one of the main reasons i am such a die hard fan of sc2 and esports in general. the man can do no wrong with me so i wish him the best.

When I saw the title I came into the thread expecting something worse. It sucks he's been in pain for an extended period of time, but at least he says he wants to be back as soon as he can. Hope he gets better soon!

This sucks, but his shoulder's been bothering him for a long time. Expect to see a jump in his play once he gets it fixed. Can't wait for the Emperor's return. <3
Hopefully the rest and rehabilitation help. He hasn't been doing wonderfully at tournaments, but he has such an awesome presence on stage and plays to the fans a lot. An amazing legend to have at any foreigner events, so I hope that he gets well and is able to get back to playing soon!
I wonder how long this shoulder thing has been slowing him down for. It would be awesome if it would account for his less then stunning performances in SC2. If that is true and the rehab helps we might see the old BoxR back in form ^^
Hes been struggling with this injury for a long time.. even in the documentary he goes to see a doctor about his shoulder, and that was when he first came to sc2 and was making slayers sc2 team.

Its really easy for terran players to get repetitive stress injuries from typing "gg" all the time. The game ought to consider this and all terrans to hotkey "gg" to minimize injury.
It seems like pro gaming is so excessive and very under looked at in terms of ratio of wages and time spent playing. :\ Just not enough spent in e-sports I guess. Hope he recovers! Best of luck!

I was worried for a very brief moment that Boxer was losing his never give up mentality, but alas, the end gave me reassurance in his unwavering and steadfast dedication.

This is good news indeed, I believe we will see a new and improved Boxer coming back to esports when he is healed. There is nothing more frustrating then being forced to take a break from something you love due to sickness or injury but frustration can lead to an incredibly amount of dedication once you are able to return to it.

Sounds like this is a recurring or nagging injury, so after it heals his mechanics should actually be better because he'll be able to play faster, comfortably. Or at least that's my hope
Playing video games is becomming like prize fighting with all the injuries as they progress through profession. Boxer reminds me of the great boxers, literally, who keep going back in the ring when they probably shouldnt. Hope he rehabilitates well though.

I remember seeing these issues in the boxer's wings documentary, I figured it was fine by now. I guess the insane amount of games he played in his life are finally taken their toll on him. Makes me really happy to see that he finally takes it serious and takes a break from gaming, I hope he recovers asap :D

Maybe they can introduce an apm ceilling to protect players from dangerously awesome gaming. If progamers exeed a certain value of apm they get fined in ladder points. Sorry, it just sounds awesome having injuries in esports. On the serious side, good luck to boxer with the rehibilation and it's great to see him positive about his continuation with sc2.

If you have watched 'boxers wings' where they mentioned several times what pain boxer was in more than a year ago I understand him. Even if I don´t want him to retire, I thinkhe should do whatever is best for him. He will be a great coach for SlayerS!

As a 2nd year Kinesiology student, I understand the problem that progamers have with shoulder injuries, and the one Boxer is having specifically.
Often when people are on the computer, their shoulders are rounded forward and their head is also slightly forward. Over time this causes shortening of the pectoralis (chest muscle) and constant stretching of the trapezius, levator scapulae muscles causing them to be in a state of constant tension.
Rounded shoulders also cause a decreased space between your a part of your shoulder blade called the 'acromion' and the arm which is where the supraspinatus tendon runs through. The problem that arises is more friction on that tendon leading to fraying and eventually tendonitis (inflammation).
I could be wrong and he got into some sort of accident, but for most progamers, this is going to be the main cause of shoulder pain.

So sad...but as in pther sports, no one really gets better with age..we all slow down...good thing most get wise with age. Even if he does not win again, he's a legend and deserves to be treated as such.

Do Korean teams ever hire physicians to work on the players' posture / physical playing style? I feel like with the recent string of players being affected by arm problems (Flash, MVP, Boxer, I'm sure there are many more) they should definitely look into it if they don't already. It's just as important for SC players to be in good shape as it is for any other kind of 'athlete.'

There's not enough money and sponsorships for a team to cover their players' medical bills, especially Korean teams that have large rosters. Players right now on the Korean teams rarely get paid as it is.
So sad to hear that he has to forfeit his Code A spot.
Ever since the documentary Boxer's Wings episode 1 came out with him having shoulder issues I knew it would only be a matter of time before something happened.

I'm glad he finally stopped to help himself, for a long time he has been pushing through the pain but as someone who loves the man for who he is its about time he stopped being the hero he is and is healing.
Even flash went through this, lets hope he makes a full recovery and comes back a total badass

The fact that he's been playing well is pretty crazy isn't it? I mean imagine the amount of struggle trying to play with either severe pain or deadening numbness that can only last for a few hours at best? Code A, borderline Code S, with just 5-10 games per day... that alone is goddamn legendary.
Hope for a speedy recovery for this guy. Like he never had the chance to show his full potential in SC2 even though he wants too. Not like NaDa who doesn't infest his full dedication. He is a dissapointment. Cause you know he will lose to anybody.

Maybe so that he can get back into code A and S? I don't know but that is fairly important to koreans. Sure he might get an invite back, but I don't think he is the kind of guy to just sit around and wait. And I assume by Code B you guys mean the code A qualifiers and not the status that everyone who is not in code A and S are in.

Boxer is one of the only players to fall to code B and work his way back up through code A into code S again! Most everyone else received free invites or MLG invites in the past. So I would not be so disrespectful towards the emporer!
Boxer will most likely enter the qualifiers and work towards regaining his pride back. I think he is the type of person to fight for it every chance he gets.

Many Zergs and Terrans were playing under physical impairment in BW as well. I really think it's the technical and mechanical aspects of playing those races that leads to injury.

Boxer is one of the only players to fall to code B and work his way back up through code A into code S again! Most everyone else received free invites or MLG invites in the past. So I would not be so disrespectful towards the emporer!

The thing iwth the kinds of injuries you get from games is that it doesnt take long to go from a painful twinge to something that is debilitating. But it takes a long time to heal and also usually requires changing posture. Which unless you are doing something obviously wrong (eg keyboard on sofa and mouse on its arm) it can be very hard to retrain not to cause the injury.
The kinds of hours these guys put in and also their responsibilities must make it difficult to avoid injury once they realise they are heading towards one.
I know a guitar player with a tension injury in his shoulder from being too tight with fingers on strings when stood up playing certain chords. When it hits it takes him out for a week but its intermittent.
You just have to have a great deal of respect for what your body is telling you or you will hurt it - doing anything.

I think the previous poster was closer to the mark. Code B doesn't have a definitive term but when I hear it used it is always to refer to low tier semi-pro players in Korea. Not necessarily in the Code A qualifiers but generally the kind of skill level that is attempting to qualify. I have never heard anyone describe a North American/European player as Code B except in to compare them with Korean players. Edit: As in "(insert player) could never beat MMA! He is Code B at best."

At one point you had to be a certain rank on the ladder in korea to be eligible for code B, not sure if thats still the case. Secondly, technically you need to be in korea to also be eligible for code b, so you personally are not in code B
It would be awesome to see boxer back in action. I hope everything is healing well , and he makes another sick run through the leagues.

FYI, everyone who is not in Code A or S is considered to be in code B. This means that you, just as me, are in code B.
