Same here, i dont think the way they play will change, unless there is no money on the line.

the funny thing is, i'm pretty sure there's somebody out there willing to sponsor this. they don't even need to put up there own money. this thing is already pretty hyped up.

By the way, fantastic grammar. Yes, you are absolutely correct. Stephano is entitled to renege on his aforementioned challenge, however, as a fan I take actions like this into account and while he might not care about the sincerity of his words, I believe many of his fans and sponsors do. Maybe I'm crazy, but as I see e-sports developing into something tangible, I can't help but notice how important public image is becoming. Stephano is just one man though. If he were something more a $5k investment to save face and most likely win many new fans (win or lose) is a no brainer. For example... I don't really care much for Stephano. He's put up some good games, but I'm not awestruck by him, however, after reading his challenge I began to care more about learning more about him.
After some of the past controversial things he's done already (signing double contracts, entering multiple tournaments that play at the same time- which causes tournament problems, etc.), this pretty much reinforces a slightly sour mindset I have of him. I'm hoping the showmatch gets played, although I was really looking forward to Stephano walking the walk of his bet, and not just talking the talk. I see this as another slightly unsettling thing he's done in his career (which has been extremely accomplished as far as wins and prize money go, don't get me wrong).

I do not think he should be able to reneg on the challenge, once you place a bet and put something like this out there, and the other person calls you, you're kinda bound to go through with it. Maybe it's becuase I play poker, but once your chips are in that's that. Well his chips isnt in is it? That's debatable, verbal declartion is binding at the poker table**, and should be in any betting scenario, otherwise it's all undermined. It's undeniable that both sides agreed to 5k. I can understand his hesitation but in my books those chips are already in the pot the second the words came out. *shrug* ** Example: You make a bet of $15, and I say call but throw more than $15 in, only my call stands and the rest of the bet comes back to me. I say I fold and then quickly change my mind, even if I did not muck my cards, it's already too late. Lol debatable really? What people say on twitter is not a bloddy contract is it? Calm down son you going full emo mode So the second I say something that you can't wrap your mind around it's calm down son you're going all emo. They made a bet in front of a ton of people, it generated a shitton of hype, and now one side is trying to back down. I'm not being emotional at all, I'm just saying what I feel. I feel like the bet is valid ,you apparently don't but have already run out of things to say, so uhhhh...yeah.
Maybe you should sue him for breakign a "twitter contract".

Yeah. I'm with you. Backing out now is going to cost him a lot, in terms of fans and reputation he already has a reputation for not following through (see ONOG) and I don't think adding to that makes a lot of sense for him as a brand. Maybe as a person but once I have given my word I don't go back on it and when calling someone out that much it seems even worse to refuse to make the bet that you were calling someone a pussy about not taking.

Why so serious? Seemed like pretty good-natured friendly banter in there conversations. Think you guys are making it more then it is.

Agreed the potential value of the match is probably more than 10k. In the long run it´s probably ev+ for the players to follow through even if they lose.

I feel the same way about Stephano. These are all the supporting reasons for why I am not a fan even though I am a zerg player. I hope naniwa crushes him.

But Naniwa said he would give 5k in showmatch too?
|
I think if Stephano wins this, he might think a little less about quitting Starcraft, if I remember correctly I believe his sole incentive for playing was the financial incentive. I really enjoy watching both these players play, and believe that they are both extremely skilled competitors, however if the aforementioned is the case, I've got to want Stephano to win, he still has so much potential!

ZvP heavily favors the protoss player in todays metagame, so I don't think Stephano has a chance o.o

Heavily? I dont agree..
Also, Stephano says otherwise! Just watch the latest episode of SoTG, he's in it. He goes so far to say that protoss needs much more viable options in PvZ, check it out

Stephano "proposed" the 5k, Naniwa "accepted" that offer. Now it appears that won't be happening. All of this on the front page of this thread dude.
...unless you're saying something completely different, which I can''t tell if you are because your sentence is barely coherent.

stephano seems like a coward.
he made 5K off the community in IPL by getting pretty much a ridiculously easy win in white-ra...
then he calls out naniwa and backs out ofc.

That's all I was getting at. lol, so the 5,000 was a bluff after all, and Nani called him on it, and now Stephano don't know what to do :x All-in or fold mofo!

It looked to me like friendly banter and ppl blow it out of proportion. God I love TL

No, both of them agreed to it, and they are waiting until they are both on the same region so they don't have to play cross-server with lag. You don't want any lag if you are playing for 5000$, do you?
