You're sorry you got caught, and if there was a way to rage and BM without getting caught, you'd still do it, because it's your current maturity level.

All you need to do is grow up, hopefully you've truly learned from this.

Maybe incontrol said "don't ever use the word "nigger" to bm people or you will be fired from EG"?

Orb used the word in an extremely malicious context. Incontrol used the word in a discussion calling for the disappearance of the word in the starcraft community. Quite different...

Intent is 9/10'ths of the law. Words said in anger or in haste shouldnt be the cause of a public shitstorm nevermind a private company firing a knowledgable and reasonably talented caster. Tbh i wasnt really a fan of orb before, but anyone who gets shit on like this publicly by bullies has my support. Eg bowed to public pressure on a private issue, what would happen if referees listend to the fans and gave penalties as the booing sees fit? What would happen to microsoft if every time a piece of code had a hole causing an exploit they fired the designer? There would be no one left. If you all keep jumping on the few public figures we have in our little community, the few who put themselves out there with absoloutly no precident or history to rely on for support, one by one we will whittle ourselves down to nothing.

Stop the bullying, grow up, Orb Fighting!

Holy shit, put down the pitchfork and sharpening stone.

This whole scenario is a tragedy that shows how the SC2 community can't handle drama.

Surely you're joking? This isn't the FGC; We're pretty much the most professional acting of the eSports communities, he should be more than fine at live events.

Don't act like you know the FGC. If anything, you'd be safer in the FGC.

He didn't just call his friends the N word, he was using the N word to intend harm. That is a lot more different than casually using the N words with your accepting friends. I mean hell, I know people who call their gay friends fags in a playful way, and neither parties give a shit.

Doesn't matter, the Starcraft community is full of double standards. Naniwa gets utterly slung through the mud and yet Stephano gets a free pass for doing equally bad things.

Just reading some of the Reddit/TL community posts just make me want to die laughing. They want to scene to become more professional and yet aren't willing to take the extra step in order to do so. Except, they want to enforce "professionalism" on everyone despite the fact that the scene is still extremely immature in alot of respects.

"I understand now, however, that this doesn't hold true for all members of the community."

I find it hard to believe that you previously didn't understand that calling someone a nigger would upset anyone.

But also good apology. Glad this has been settled lol

It was a word....

For the most part, I think the community is wrong. If you had said any other word, and I mean ANY other word, people would have shrugged it off or laughed... instead you got fired by a company for actions that were carried out before you were ever even with that company. I'll watch your stream even if you continue to use the word, you know why? Cause its just a word for crying out loud! Many of you will attempt to copy me and call me a racist, biggot, moron, etc.... but you know what? Those are just words too, people really need some thicker skin. Your language in your stream is your own choice, I'm there for the analysis and entertainment of the game. I could care less what BM you spout off after a loss.

GL Orb, too many overly-sensitive people in the world for this NOT to hurt your career, I hope you can still come out on top.

Exactly. People need to learn to grow out of being "offended" by arbitrary words, phrases, and other bullshit.

you generally cross the line when you drop the N-bomb under any context unless you're black.

This is so ridiculous.

It is 2012. We have words that are restricted by how much melanin a person's skin produces?

Really?

REALLY?

This. I just think this is an excuse for EG to get rid of orb. Money talks, EG thought it would be bad press for them so they got rid of him. Could have just said so.

Orb, never been a huge fan but as a member of our community didn't mind. I'll be honest, I feel bad for you because of one main thing... that your human and you were not working. We joke around sometimes and even if we make racial or sexist jokes whole heartedly we know that you where just frustrated and you didn't mean it to the heart. It's like brothers and sisters, we make fun of eachother but at the end of the day we are all family. That's how I feel, but racial card can be rough when others see it so I am sorry for your lose because you where on a great track. Keep the involvement in the community because we still love you as a major contributor!! ♥

Apology not accepted. these events hurt esports. I had to delete about 2 paragraphs from my post due to potential fire starting comments about blatant racism and hate while streaming.

I've seen orb alot around TL over the years, and I have to say people need to be more leninet i feel. Starcraft can be an extraordinarily frustrating game - you see occasionally even Koreans curse, knowing that they will be seen on camera, in the middle of a game. SC2 is even worse atm, with all the balancing going on and the overall balance not set in stone like BW only adds to the fury going around. I feel most of the people bashing on orb are hipocrites, I'm sure all of us have called an opponent a faggot or some other derogatory term. The frustration is part of the game, and while orb was incorrect in what he did, I feel there really should not be THIS big of a deal about it.

Cool then you used other insults. Who cares. You cant tell me you never raged and insulted somebody in your life. Insults are there to be offensive to the person youre talking to. If its racist, sexist or whatever who gives a shit.

Did you ever see a racial tension of orb on his Stream when he was casting ESV games? No. As it is for every other cast ive watched by him. What makes you think youre above a guy who used some insult 4-5 times. What makes you think you should be his judge altough you have no clue or real reason to be offended. What makes you think you should end his career and basically kill him publicly because of a stupid thing like this. He didnt do anything wrong during professional casts. Thats what matters. Youre the pathetic one here buddy.

- Calling somebody "ass" or "nigger" are the same things?
- A lot of people "give a shit" (and should). Thats why orb is now a thing of the past.
- Your the one to decide when i have a "real reason" to feel offended? I did not know that, sorry.
- I did not end his career, he did. I dont know a lot of places on earth, where racism is welcome.
- I tend to avoid racists. I dont like listening to somebody, of who i know hes racist in his free time. Sorry, I cannot enjoy anything when i know the "dark" background of a personality.

Saying "nigger" doesn't make you a racist.

Saying "nigger" to (or directly about) a black person with the express intent of evoking the racially charged history of the word while harboring feelings of hatred/bigotry towards said ethnicity makes you a racist.

Im not going to discuss this "he not racist by saying the word nigger". A 23-year old should start thinking about the vocabulary he uses. Either he didnt think about it, and hes simply stupid. Otherwise hes racist. Both situations disqualify him as a representative of a community (imho).

Oh, FFS, if you're going to apologize, mean it. Don't just make some stupid public statement just to try to restore your public image. These meaningless 'public' apologies are so tiring.

On March 09 2012 13:14 -orb- wrote:

This statement is complete bullshit. Just own what you said, say I'm sorry, I don't feel that way and move on. Don't challenge people to argue about how you feel.

From the community, forgetting is what I dream of, forgiveness is what I hope for, but understanding is what I need.

Based on the previous sentence I quoted, I seriously doubt this is your own material. It's just as much bullshit, however. Did you get this from some public relations book, or did Geoff tell you to say this ?

Again, apologize, ask for forgiveness in time, and move on. Stupid shit like this is irritating.
