Not to mention he did it during a tournament, not just ladder play. Just because Idra is famous shouldn't mean he's immune. As people have stated its a double standard. | ||

Actually, there is really no difference between the two types of insults in these cases unless you are utterly oblivious to what "context" means. The real difference is that, like you said, Idra is liked more and has more fans, it's all blatently a double standard but in this day and age people still seem totally cool with that. Me personally? The hypocrisy makes me sick, but that's human nature for ya. | ||

People keep throwing around the race card, despite the word being used by white guys, black guys, and pretty much the gaming community as a whole. To think that words are just words is incredibly naive and that's not how society works. Language constitutes the way we think about things and how our social reality comes to shape. So if calling someone a nigger or a fagot as an insult is something that is common and accepted it is pretty clear that racist and homophobic tendencies present themselves on a basic linguistic level. And notice I used the two words myself without censoring or hinting at them because there is a context in which they can be used because they aren't referencing anything else but themselves as words but there is no context in which they can be used as an insult in a harmless way. | ||

You can say any word you want and not be racist. Words themselves aren't racist, context and opinion of them are. I call my Indian friends racial slurs all the time, and vice versa. Personally, if many, many African Americans are okay with using the term 'nigger' in a non-racist context, I don't see an issue with using it myself, in a non-racist context. If someone gets offended, they're more than welcome to judge me. I generally don't care about the assumptions one might make about me. Obviously there's a time and a place. The workplace is not somewhere to use what a good portion of society considers 'edgy' words. If your work happens to be where you play as well, it may be in your best interest to watch your mouth while playing. | ||
