It was not a slip of the lip at all. Orb has been talking like a "wanna-be-cool" 15 year old for at least twelve months now, probably more. It was just now when he got some attention for his vulgar use of the English language, he started apologizing.

I think this is a bit of growing pains for the whole community as we get more mainstream.
It has nothing to do with becoming mainstream to be honest. Simply one persons mistake, do not equate to the whole community.

Is this the political correctness police? How far are we from those muslim totalitarian states, were a wrong word means brutal punishment? As an european I can just laugh at it. He said a curse word, so what? But americans also have had their "nipplegate" scandal, which to an european is just bizare.
I though the gaming community was more relaxed, but I was wrong. Soon this will be filled with PC-Nazis...

It's ironic that you call the people who scrutinize the use of a racial slur "PC-Nazis".... Reeeeeeeeallll Ironic.

Eg bowed to public pressure on a private issue, what would happen if referees listend to the fans and gave penalties as the booing sees fit? What would happen to microsoft if every time a piece of code had a hole causing an exploit they fired the designer? There would be no one left. If you all keep jumping on the few public figures we have in our little community, the few who put themselves out there with absoloutly no precident or history to rely on for support, one by one we will whittle ourselves down to nothing.
Stop the bullying, grow up, Orb Fighting!
Yup.
All of this is too much. Contacted sponsors!? What like 12 hours after the OP? Im speechless. You guys raged harder than he did. You guys did more harm than he did. Im not saying nothing shouldve been done, but this whole thing was extreme. Getting fired from a regular job sucks bad enough, but its easy to find a new one. You cant do that in this case...not the way this community seems to be. Ruined a guy. Everyday around here its some bullshit, its all this Insanity thats hurting the community. Self destructive. Calm down.
Orb, hope you get a second chance. I dont support EG's decision here. You shouldve had a second chance before getting fired.

You are truly ignorant if you laugh at this matter, and think the word "n*****" is merely a curse word. He got fired because he used extremely offensive language to a lot of people. This is the way of removing such shit from the surface, to beat it down at once. I am just glad the people in charge, in this case EG, dealt with it the way it should be.

Those people are the ones who deserve 125-page drama threads about them, as they are objectively hurting esports.

Sc 2 community, I've been offended by a lot of streamers because of their mentality and their language.
I don't think it is right to think you can get away with saying things online that you wouldn't ever say to someones face IRL. A lot of vulgar things that have been said during popular streams are completely uncalled for and I am always shocked to see/hear people acting like ignorant children even though they are old enough to know better.
I think other popular streamers (casters, gamers, whatever) should take this as a huge lesson. It totally sucks that it happened to Orb but if he's guna get crucified for this then at least others can learn.
Sure, you're streaming from the comfort of your own home. But you are a celebrity and you are idolized, so your actions and words have a lot more effect on the viewing community.
Ya'll need to man up and take on the responsibility that you've worked so hard to achieve.
Orb, You're a great caster, and it sucks to see you go down like this. I'd be shocked if you landed another decent casting gig after this because i know how professional business can be unforgiving. However, I personally believe in second chances, and i hope you get picked up in the community again. I also hope that you've learned from your lesson and that you've learned respect for yourself and the people around you when you're in the public eye. Keep on keepin on. gl

A lot of European countries have no minorities, and the minorities that do live there are marginalized. Not to mention the extreme amount of xenophobia that manifests in the governments of many European countries. America may seem sensitive, but it also has a history of racism and civil rights problems that have been shaping the cultural discourse over the past 100 years. I'm so sick of comments from Europeans saying that only Americans care, when most Europeans probably haven't even met a black person or minority, it's just a sea of white faces.
But americans also have had their "nipplegate" scandal, which to an european is just bizare.
And the French government banned the burqa because they are afraid of muslim immigrants, which is just bizarre. What's your fuckin point?

next time think what are you saying and doing

Orb you are always welcome to me and i think most of the community! I think your casting is really great and that's all what counts to me. I mean this happend long ago and you were just raging about a stupid canon cheese. This is by no means meant racistic (even if u said n****r). Hope to see you back soon!
P.S. i really think EG overreacted and I'll miss ur commentating in the tournament!

I am afan of u , since the timesof beta, and anyone who knows u enough or follows u enough, knows that every piece of this sh*t was overreacting by the community, since u have been doing this kind rage/funny/crazy stuff for ages and never was took serious.

NIGGER.
I'm not racist, but it's just a word. Everyone needs to calm down and realize that words aren't racist, people are. If someone who believes in racial equality, saying nigger doesn't make me racist, but if I WERE a racist and referred to black people as some other word, any other word, I would still be racist.
You can say "nigger" without being racist and you can be racist without saying nigger.
EDIT: This applies to "faggot," too. I'm 100% in favor of homosexual rights. They're people too, and no more or less intrinsically valuable than anyone else. Saying "faggot" doesn't change that. Couldn't agree more. Words are not racist in themselves, it is all a matter of context. Don't give me this crap, words have an associated meaning with them that we all know and understand, and you know it. We all know what the word means, and it doesn't matter what you meant to say or what the context is. Either you intended to be offensive and rude when you said it, or you're just incompetent at communicating because you said something that most other people interpreted differently because it has a completely different meaning than how you used it. It doesn't matter which, you failed when you decided to use a word with that much hate and bigotry associated with it. Words are racist when the word has a racist meaning. Admittedly it's a bit offtopic, but I remember when Jinro said something along the lines of "ohh I fucked up" in GSL at his peak. Everyone went "oooooooo he just said fuck". Words have the meaning you put in them, there Jinro obviously just used 'fuck' in the same way as he would use 'messed up' or similar. I don't know the true meaning orb was trying to put into the word when he used it, but you can't really say that all words have the same meaning and that a person saying 'nigger' is always conveying the same message through the word.
'Fuck' is a curse word. It has a negative meaning, but colloquially it more or less means the same as damn. It is not a racially charged word filled with hatred, bigotry, and hundred of years of enslavement and degradation.

yeah, cause it wasn't on a "serious" platform. This time, however, it was - and it is always serious if you have any concern for peoples emotions or regard. It's called growing up and maturing. Something that most gamers know nothing about, especially when they think they are in their own little world and the people on the receiving end are intangible enemies.
How can you disqualify everything that was said and done by the community and the EG corporate office?!??!!?!?!?!? You think you know better than a multitude of people and that just makes me laugh. I LOL'd when i read this remark.

I like Orb's casting. I dont think he has the right to use horribly racial language. Apologize, learn from mistakes, move on, and I think he'll be just fine

The thing is Orb tried to play it like it was something isolated when his conduct has been long history of offensive conduct had been witnessed by many, basically he lied, plus he tried to shift the focus onto others, like Destiny and Kawaiirice and Spades, which made his apology seem insincere. The thing about Destiny and people like Lalush though, is that when you log onto their stream, you know very well they're going to swear and stuff, everyone knows that, and everyone's cool with that, but Orb lied about it, which pissed off the community, and without the community you're really nothing.

See, Orb didn't do this on stream. This was a witch hunt going through old replays looking for use of this word.
I think everyone agrees that saying it on stream is one thing, and saying it in private is still frowned upon. But this isn't a case of someone logging onto an EG stream and being shocked at the language they hear. This is people actively going out of their way and looking for a reason to be offended.
It was still wrong and some sort of action should have been taken, but I'm disappointed with both EG and the community as a whole for the amout of overreaction that took place. Orb is a great caster, and I'm sure if you sort through enough replays of other community figures you could easily find equally offensive rage rants. Why did Orb get fired then? He's new and he got caught.
