If that's actually true then it sounds to me that NA can't realistically support an SC2 scene. That would really suck, but it doesn't mean that people are going to overpay for content. Since when is MLG a charity? If these doomsday predictions are true, then I'll watch whatever scene is left. We'll see what happens with Europe and Korea. More likely I think this is a scare tactic in the face of a harsher reaction than I guess they were expecting. "Buy this product or bad things will happen to you" That business model is pretty popular in southern Italy, haha. Maybe instead of the UFC, MLG is borrowing a page from the mafia

edit: if you assume that the average traveling cost (including hotel ofc!) for somebody from NA is about 1500$, then an average of over 3500$ on people outside of the NA

The moment they announced gold membership for MLG I bought one. I wasn't too bothered that everybody else was able to get free HD streams due that ridiculous hot pocket promotion. So basically I have paid for that Gold membership and got nothing in return that somebody else who paid nothing didn't get. I know I paid a rather small membership fee but paying money and then seeing a couple stupid decisions, like the hot pocket promotion, making MLG lose money is just painful. It is just sad that they didn't ask all 250.000 viewers to become paying viewers last year, and the couple of us that paid the membership fee back in August 2011 got nothing in return. Now they go WAY overboard with the 20$ for 2 days of content. This is just too much in comparison with other tournaments and I cannot believe that last year was a financial bad year for MLG. And if it was, it was their own fault with giving away a fucking million free silver passes. Sorry but this is bullshit MLG.

Maybe instead of the UFC, MLG is borrowing a page from the mafia The timing for the scare tactic is right. After the giant thread about monetizing eSports, MLG probably felt it was time to strike and play on those fears. Think about the average TL plebeian: -Loves watching pro players play, loves the scene -Sees thread on TeamLiquid saying that we must start using a PPV model, has a huge number of replies and attention -They read in the thread that tournaments are going to have to start using PPV or else they'll go under (which is said in a matter-of-fact tone in the thread) -Think about it a little bit, wondering it it could be true or not -Week later, see MLG come out with a PPV system and claiming the same claims as stated in the previous thread -Plebeian's mind makes the connection; it must be true! These are the signs the plebeian was told to look out for!

"MLG RESERVES THE RIGHT, AT ANY TIME, TO CHANGE ITS FEES AND BILLING METHODS, INCLUDING THE ADDITION OF SUPPLEMENTAL FEES OR SEPARATE CHARGES FOR CONTENT OR SERVICES PROVIDED BY MLG, EFFECTIVE THIRTY (30) DAYS AFTER ONLINE POSTING AND EMAIL NOTIFICATION. If any such change is unacceptable to you, you may terminate your MEMBERSHIP, as provided below. YOUR CONTINUED USE OF THE MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM FOLLOWING THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF A CHANGE TO SUCH FEES AND BILLING METHODS SHALL CONSTITUTE YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF SUCH CHANGE." Because, I can see it going one of two ways: 1) MLG can change whatever they want, whenever they want (effective immediately) and you have 30 days to ask for your money back or you're constituted as accepting the change. or 2) MLG can change whatever they want, whenever they want (effective 30 days after the posting) and you have that same time window to request your money back or you're constituted as accepting the change.

Everybody will hopefully tune in to Moon's comeback in sc2 =D=D=D=D I'm sure Sundance is gonna realize this is a horribly bad move by MLG. he's gonna lose like 90% of his viewers for certain. Nothing but good news for Assembly this month. Also, MLG will realize their blunder and opt for a system like GSL where a free stream is available but paid streams are also there for all future events. You can't expect gamers, most of whom are all kids, to cough up $20 for a 3 day event. especially when GOM gives u month-long access to paid content for only $16. fail move, bro.

Starcraft 2 tournaments are all "online" tournaments. Wasting a lot of money to fund a tournament isn't a justification when you can do the same exact thing at only the cost of casters and prize pool online.

Limitation of Usage Neither you nor the operator of any website where your Production(s) may be viewed can force a viewer to pay a "fee" to be able to view your Production(s). Regarding Websites and "Premium Access" We understand that many third party websites have a "free" method to see their video content, as well as a 'premium' membership service that allows for speedier viewing. For clarity, please note that as long as the website that hosts your Production provides a free method to allow viewers to see the Production, Blizzard Entertainment will not object to your Production being hosted on that site, regardless of the site's "for pay" premium service plans.

People are willing to support things they enjoy until they're REQUIRED to do so, this isn't going to turn out well for MLG I don't think\ On February 14 2012 17:34 Cyanure wrote: Are they allowed to force people to pay, on the page Blizzard video Policy, they state that organisations can propose people to pay for content, but they have to give something for free : Oh wow, so they are actually breaking Blizzard's policies by doing this.
