Isn't it up to 1,000.00 USD each for all 32 players in travel expenses? You could make quite a sick prizepool for that.. Or make a stream.. Not PPV :-) I realize that Korean teams still don't have money to send over a lot of players, but honestly, there are quite a alot foreigners that I would really like to watch battle it out in a tournament such as this - A few koreans would be awesome, but not a must for it to be worth my time... Maybe its just me though :-)

Poll: Main reason you're not paying? $20 is just too much for the content you get (121) By principle, Im just not supporting a business model like this, it should be free (42) Wont be able to follow whole tourny due to time zone differences, thus making it not worth it (22) Rather watch Assembly, might have payed if timing was better (13) Would like to pay, but Im too poor (9) I cannot pay (3) 210 total votes Your vote: Main reason you're not paying? For long term sustainable growth you should be investing your $20 (or whatever) into tournaments you feel deserve that money - for their quality, professionalism or whatever. Reward based on content, not based on the false premise of growing esports. very good point. in order to be successful, we cannot simply rely on the esports train to carry us forever. That is a business doomed to fail since it relies on emotion and a die hard fan base. to be truly successful, they must be objective in their aims and business savvy in their own right. Look, we can help these guys by buying all their shit. But it ain't gonna last if WE are the only ones buying into this. MLG needs a better business plan that BRINGS in ALL types of viewers and sustains them in a cutthroat efficient manner. This is business folks and business is serious.

Part of me feels that MLG is trying to recoup the cost of paying for all the players travels on the viewers dime. The majority of the players are on freaking teams, it's their teams responsibility to get them to events. Now that cost is being passed straight on through to the viewer. WTF. The beauty of this, is they are asking us to pay for an event with ZERO audience(which is what basically made MLG). Also denying Gold Members... talk about yet another bait and switch. If you reward a move like this just prepare to get fucked later on for more money and more barriers. $20 dollars here and $20 dollars there adds up eventually to real money. Are a substantial amount of people really prepared to start paying $200 and $300 a year just for the privilege of watching SC2? Somehow I doubt it. Wonder why they never tried this with Halo and all the frat boys but, think they can do this shit to the SC2 community. I do applaud MLG for one thing. They announced the event with nothing about it being PPV to create the free hype, cast the spoiled qualifiers for "free" and then last minute let them know you gotta cough up MORE money to watch the event. Wonderful business decision that I will not get behind and hope it fails. VOTE WITH YOUR DOLLARS.

Not buying, and I'm sure many won't too. I guess that's all people want it to be. Supporting something you love to see it grow pass expectations seems fair to me. Hearing the MLG doesn't make back what they put in tells me where never gonna go anywhere passed our own bubble we're in. But everyone seems so entitled to free content so hey don't watch it.

For eSports to survive, it must have a sustainable business model, and covering all expenses from sponsors is not sustainable in the long term. Personally I think eSports enthusiasts should be happy that it is serious companies such as MLG and ESL that are asking for money, with the view of injecting it back to eSports. Both have won, or should have won, the loyalty of eSports enthusiasts, so let's give them something really small back, but which in essence helps a lot. I'm totally on board with you. Sustainable business models must be established to secure the future for the eSports community. If everything continued to be free (for large scale events such as this one) there would come a time when sponsorship money alone simply cannot get it done. Not to mention that it puts a huge amount of stress on the teams financially to get their players to and from events. This system is much better from a sustainability standpoint when you look at the whole of the industry. There are plenty of events that should remain completely free (the daily/weeklies that are online comps with no overheads for studios/infrastructure) because there needs to be a product in the marketplace to attract people to SC2 in general. If you want blockbuster events that are on the scale of MLG, ESL etc then I think people are going to have to get used to paying in some form at the very least because I'd rather pay and have the leagues then refuse to support them and eventually see them die out because I was a scrooge.

Just because a Lamborghini is out of my price range doesn't mean that I'm going to be pissed off at the manufacturer. You would be pissed if you were told the Lamborgini is available for driving to you once a month for the weekend, only to be told randomly later on that you must buy it, and thats its a godamned privilege to support the company making the product.

And for everyone saying "y u madz?"... MLG has always had a free SQ stream. This is completely new, that's why people are upset. That and it's announced so close to the date... I mean, some people were really looking forward to this FREE entertainment, and then 2 weeks before it's supposed to happen you hear it's gonna be PPV? Pretty shitty, very little notice.

Not to mention all the free content that is created, it will be hard to justify paying $20 for a 3 day tournament. Do not compare foreign viewers of BW (who are worth exactly zero $ to the Korean centric advertisers) with the state of SC2, where the paid content is easily the best (GSL, admittedly with free stream)

20$ may seem like nothing to most of you but college/housing is a real bitch. I'm really going to miss my MLG weekends, but not enough to pay 20$.

This is why you people keep electing fucking retarded politicians who promise you a tiny tax cut while gutting your countries education system because you don't have kids yet to put through school. I'm not sick, so I don't want national health care. I don't drive, why do i have to pay for roads. Selfish pricks. When I see someone doing something 'in their own best interest' that involves fucking over everyone else, I get fuckin' mad because that person is a selfish prick who needs to think about more people than themselves. So you want the government to act in your self-interest then. People subscribe to government for order and protection. The cost you pay is in taxes and rights. Unfortunately there is a monopoly in that you can only live places where there is a government, unless you by an island.
