What MLG really needs to do is offer something nobody else can. They had SotG, and could have made it something you could only download if you pay for a tournament, but they let them go for whatever reason. They could also offer Idra and Artosis some kind of royalty to make new Imbalanced episodes and put them up as a premium reward as well. Sweeten the deal with something.

In addition, I guess that ads breaks remains? $20 + no semi final and final + Ads, not a chance... Dude, I can't imaging they'd have the audacity to charge this much AND have ads at the same time, that'd just be ridiculous. PPV is fine, even if I think they are overcharging, but you can't have ads on a premiumly-priced PPV stream.

We will still produce tons of free pro circuit live competition. As well as more arenas with free and PPV components. vor ungefähr 4 Stunden via Twitter for iPhone I wish it was simple and we could all have it our way but compromise and evolution are necessary. vor ungefähr 4 Stunden via Twitter for iPhone It's not about being greedy ( I can make a lot more money elsewhere ). It's about building something that can live on long after I'm gone vor ungefähr 4 Stunden via Twitter for iPhone Again - its not all unicorn farts and rainbows. It's business. A business that I love. I owe it to all of you to test this model out.

Yeah but this gives me the question: If they are going to have the event strictly Pay Per View and the basis of theyre income is from viewers (Thats why you get sponsors, they want many people viewing theyre products and ads) i cant believe they are going to risk loosing tons of viewers by having it Pay per View. They should keep the stream free and if you pay you get full hd quality and some bonuses. Having the entire event pay per view sounds like disaster, i know im not going to pay for it although i love watching tournaments.

But, considering that MLG has the same caster combos as before ( Wheat JP Husky day and w.e other 2 invites ) i would much rather prefer to watch free to view on youtube by casters that i enjoy more such as HD or TB. I hope for the sake of them that they get enough, but 20$ per stream viewer , it would take about 30k to cover for the cost of the event ( if not more ), i really hope they won't mess this up, cuz they are obviously pissing some people ( not myself ) by doing this and it will hurt them if they decide to go free again the next event since they did not gain enough.

If streams were ads-less i could think about it, but actually, they throw at us a tons of ads and i'm okey with it because it's giving them the money to show us the event. But now, if we have ads + got to pay to see it, it will be without me. To me, eSports is not a business, it's a passion and fun. You want to make money with this ? I totally disagree. You should only make enough money to pay everything, not making profit. I hope you'll realise you were wrong before the event (instead of after). Posts like this make me facepalm. Welcome to the real world kid. All the people involved can't do this out of the goodness of their heart. They need to make money to pay the bills. The twitter post makes a lot of sense though. Giving only 1 option of paying 20 dollars is a bad idea. For a weekend you should keep it more in the range of an iOS app, like 1 to 6 dollars. That should still add up greatly if MLG keeps pulling the numbers.

do so, because I neither have credit card nor a pay pal account. Apart from this I don´t think that it is worth it´s money. Since we have another timezone in Europe I probably won´t be able to watch all the games, then there might be lag and so on...

The costs of these events aren't covered solely by sponsorship dollars, and even if they were - that's still not a sustainable business model to rely on sponsors to cover everything. You need to bring in new revenue in order to survive as a business, or you're going to go under. The price is a bit lofty, but I'll probably pay for it as long as I'm around. I'm going to assume that either in the future the price will come down due to the community response, or at the very least more will be added in for the cost, but $20 isn't a huge deal to me. It's worth it in the long run, as MLG has shown a commitment to improving their product and beefing things up. The comparisons to GOM should probably come to a screeching halt - GOM was a well-established organization prior to SC2's drop, and is in a country that has a much broader appeal for eSports than MLG is situated in. They're going to be able to cover more through advertisements because their advertisements will have a greater reach in their demographic than in North America or even Europe. Tournaments are going to need to start finding ways to monetize soon, the dollars can't just pump into the scene from thin air forever. Eventually one of two things will happen, either tournaments will start across the board to monetize in order to be able to stay in the black and turn into profitable businesses, or the bubble is going to burst and things are going to go downhill.
