In other words, it doesn't open the editor at all, it points at the map and orders the game itself to start it. You can't use that shortcut when logged on a Battle.net server, but it is no big deal since the current version of the Battle.net launcher lets you chat with your friends even if no game has been started.
Hm...I realised I wrote 'installer edition' instead of 'starter edition' [fixed it :p] but I guess you found it out. That Battle.net log-in issue doesn't concern me [Warfield has no idea what's he is up against...] because I hardly ever use it for chatting. We will see how it turns out when you release it. Thanks for the info & anwser though. And you're welcome I only spoke the truth

I'm also having this problem...
edit: solved. You need to download this file. It says its optional but the campaign doesn't work for me until i downloaded that.

This is fantastic, words can't convey my praise. I seriously can't get enough of this, keep up the great work

Is anyone else secretly hoping if there are any plans to publish the lesser known additional (official) expansions: Insurrection & Retribution as that would be kickass. Come on Telenil pretty please

Reading the previous page, if there are levels people are complaining are too difficult then I now feel challenged to defeat them myself.

This is very unlikely. A fan sent me the BW files a year ago, but it would be way more work than it's worth. We worked on these 65 missions for three years, and our jobs take much more time now than they did in 2011-2012. I only managed to squeeze Loomings in because I played the demo as a kid, other campaigns will be left to the next generation of mapmakers. Enslavers/Dark Vengeance was released by opupu, maybe other people will take a shot at Insurrection/Retribution. I do plan to write a guide on how to design and balance an AI at some point.

What's the difference between the SCMR mod and the Retro mod? The description just states
(more BW sounds and custom models)
which is kind of vague. Which mod is recommended?

As it states, it has more custom models and BW sounds....actuallly, all bw sounds are imported. For models, portraits, check this, It's an older mod [5.1.] but this is the only place where they had put this picture with so many visual information. I guess they simply forgot to add it to the page of the v.5.3 retro mod.
There has been a conversation about it earlier. Gotta quote them. [they are from this thread, pages 44-45]

It also adds classic attack noises, and a whole bunch of custom portraits and models. I like it.
Some people don't care about that much detail; the amount of that kind of detail in the normal mod is fine, it doesn't really need to go that extra mile, and while the custom models and portraits are really cool, they're admittedly far from Blizzard-quality.
However, some people do love that extra mile, those extra details, and the sheer novelty of actually having all this customization to make things look more and more like Brood War. Personally, I love seeing the custom battlecruiser model; I fully admit I'm a sucker for details, and seeing a separate model to represent the Behemoth-class Battlecruisers instead of the Minotaur-Class Battlecruisers that the normal model represents is a nice touch, just as one example.
Pretty much this. If the texture doesn't look as polished as the SC2 model, if the model is not as detailed and the unit has no attack sound or two different voices, then it is a net negative to the quality of the unit. There are a number of units who had better sounds in Brood War (hydralisk, goliath...), but I'm not sure reverting the medic to her 1998 quotes would improve the experience. Remember that a lot of players didn't play Starcraft 1 or don't really remember it, we want the mod to feel familiar to them. We want them to think "hey, there are some new units!", not "wow, everything is different!".
I personally prefer the 'standard' mod as their portraits are Blizzard quality. [note: the retro edition portrait of the high/dark templars are really awesome though] However, there are some really good model in the retro mod. For me the best option would be a 'half-retro' version, (BW sounds and some custom models, but the portraits of the standard mod] But obviously that'd be extra work and is not that important.
So, it's up to you, Really. They don't make that much of a difference. Both are enjoyable. For further visual information [gameplay] check some of the videos of Jayborino and Blazieth.
* JayborinoPlays, Hard difficulty (complete, all maps) * Blazieth, retro mod (episodes 1-3)

I would still love Gradius12 to make a seperate "half-retro" version including only the old sounds.
I wrote a pm to him about this on sc2mapster two weeks ago. So far i've gotten no response, but I suppose they are all busy working on the latest version of the main mod.

Only the old sounds and Kerrigan (ghost) model :p I've tried to add Kerrigan and the marines model to the standard mod, but I've failed I've also tried tried to put all the remaining sounds into the standard mod, but I've failed with this as well.
And you're probably right. They want to make a good job so that they won't have to do a lot until LotV. That's why they're busy I guess.

Hi. Just want to say thanks for such great job. I did finished recently WoL & HotS, but never actually finished first SC - and it's harder to dive in after SC2. Your mod gives fantastic experience* and seems to be almost-like Blizzard did this. Thanks!
* I only don't like "Kerrigan" human model. But mainly because I think Nova's a no-to-high-quality woman.

The other mod got a little different model. One of them should fit to your taste

Good call, thanks! Too bad I'm in middle Zerg campaign already... Is it safe to switch mods, are saves etc compatible?
And I see on youtube that it doesn't change her portrait unfortunatelly.
Anyway, still a great work.

I don't think that saves are compatible. However, you can start a new mission from the beginning, you don't have to replay the missions you've played so far. [if you replace the mod files, you don't have to re-install the whole Mass Recall, as far as I know] If you're playing with the method that the missions are unlocked one by one....then I don't know how it'd work.
Also, someone made a Kerrigan portrait. It wasn't used in the retro mod, because it either doesn't have a talking animation, or it's too timeconsuming to make her move her lips.

It's indeed great. However, I do like this Nova-recoloured portrait., because of the attitudes. Nova isn't a lighthearted angel. She is ambitious, icy, and stuff. And that is resembled on her face as well. And Kerrigan is icy as well at least on the beginning... Overall, I like that portrait, even though it shows the laziness of some Blizzard employee...

Thanks for continuing to update this. Amazing work, team. I've been meaning to try this out for a very long time.

Hi all.
I am currently launching SC2 editor from StarFriend using the Starter Edition: this workaround allows me to test maps even if I don't have the full version of the game.
I've just downloaded and properly installed StarCraft: Mass Recall vers. 5.3.
The only problem is: when I try to play any map, an error message says "Unable to open map"; I guess this is due to the fact that StarFriend 1.53 automatically downgrades SC2 HOTS to 2.0.9 to allow for playing.
Could you provide me with a link to which version of StarCraft: Mass Recall should I use to be able to play with 2.0.9?

Well...check 5.2, 5.1, 5.0.....(you can get them here ) I don't think 5.2 and 5.1 are true options, but the latest version, the better the game is. 5.0 got a more solid chance, however that's not 100 sure either. If none of them work, you have two option. 1; you download the older versions of the mod. They are playable, enjoyable, but obviously got more bugs.
2; you wait for the installer, which should make Mass Recall playable with the starter edition, as far as I know As for when it comes out, 'soon' was the word Jones used earlier this day..
