@Re1deR - You sir, have won. Nice job!
@Telenil - Just thinking outloud...would be amazing to include that in a new version but have a toggle between the original FMV cinematics and the in-game ones you have been creating in the option menu. I think the work there has been stellar and I am still interested in seeing the finished product of creating in-game cinematics for the other in-campaign movies. No reason to toss out what you've already done thus far.

I think the same. It would be cool to have both your work and the original ones...Perhaps an option like "check this if u want to have this and uncheck if you don't want to have this..."

was this designed for hots? i only have wings so it doesnt workk

Yes, for any version starting from 5.0 onward, you need Heart of the Swarm, as that's the point where the mod and maps start using Heart of the Swarm assets.
|
The way Re1der did it, the cinematics are in a separate mod, which is fortunate because some maps might otherwise have reached 40+Mb sizes. So we have to put a toggle in the Launcher, otherwise who didn't download them for whatever reason will get a "This map refers to dependencies that cannot be loaded" error.
The only cutscenes that will conflict with the CGI cinematics are those that end the campaigns. I might put two separate buttons on the score screen when the toggle is set to CGI, but if the point is to make our cutscenes more accessible, I would rather put them on YouTube as was done with the Omega cutscene. In other words, the plan is that people who checked the "cinematics" box will see the 1998 CGI, those who didn't will see the v5.0 in-game cutscenes at the end the campaigns, and everything will also be visible on YouTube.
I'm a little sluggish these days, but I will let you know when I'm able to seriously get into it.

I'd like to know, if there will be subtitles during the original CGI's I asked this on sc2mapster, too, and if I'm going to be annoying for some ppl, then sorry. But for me, subtitles are a crucial part. Re1deR said: "There are Subtitles. However, I do not know how to link the subtitles with the video in the editor. So I use other methods." Perhaps, I did not understand it correclty (since english isn't my native language). But these other methods will still allow us to see the subtitles, right?
again, sorry if I annoy someone

Take your time man, you've done a great job thus far. With the bug fixes and now the original CG cinematics intact, this mod is pretty much near perfect. The only additions really that would be awesome to see long term would be:
* Tweaks/additions to the in-game cutscenes on each level. Some have been beautifully done, so just more of that
* Re-creations of the original CG cinematics in-game OR play with the idea of using the full motion videos for some cutscenes...maybe try one aboard the Hyperion with Raynor and Mengsk or replace a mission briefing with actual CG models? Just for fun of course to see if its feasible. Recreating the mission briefings from SC1 was great, so this is more so just a wish list to add some of SC2's capabilities to this mod.
* Add on any additional Legacy of the Void portrait or unit models that might help when that gets released. Although I love everything done thus far custom, in case Blizzard perfects any original models that aren't yet there or have bugs, like adding a proper Matriarch portrait.
* To go along with the above, perfect all the portraits. Do a proper custom model for everyone, like Raynor without a beard, Kerrigan human, Duke, Aldaris, etc. Those take time I know, so again more wish list
Small additions overtime can really perfect this thing that I really think Blizzard needs to take notice to

I, for one really like the briefing in the way it is know about portraits, the only "problem" i had was the matriarch (speaking about the normal version, not the retromod)

Installing the new version right now and I just want to say thanks for all this great free stuff. It's wonderful.
I've been thinking lately that it would be really great if someone redid the storyline for StarCraft: Insurrection and StarCraft: Retribution using the voice acting and lore in those games, only with missions that don't suck. Just something to think about. Don't know if I'll ever get deep enough into StarCraft to try that myself but it would be cool to see.

One cutscene I'd like to do is Alpha Squadron troops arresting the militia at the end of Terran02. It is used to flesh Duke's and Raynor's character, gets mentionned several times during the campaign, and I really like those semi-offscreen plots that are really there for world building. There is no such things in Starcraft 2, what could have been the equivalent -news cast- was used as a running gag instead.

Most custom models have a lower quality than Blizzard models, particularly in texture and lighting, and I'm not into using custom models for custom's sake. If that's your thing, well, that's why we've done a retro mod.
I'm more excited for Legacy of the Void because it will bring new models than because it will improve the gameplay :p Blizzard said two years ago that they would work on custom campaign support, maybe we will have good news on that front too.

It sure would Most important tip to whoever toys with the idea: release the thing campaign per campaign. There is no way in heaven or hell you can do 30 good maps in a row, the only reason we got so far was that the overwhelming support we received after each episode pushed us into the next.

I've tried accessing the Insurrection and Retribution ISOs, but the cabinet files seem to be corrupted on every image I come across
I was hoping at the very least to convert the legacy maps into SC2 for some very basic terrain and then dabble from there. Anyone out there have the working ISOs with the .scx maps being accessible? Googling did not land me with any working results.

i'm not quite sure u meant this (but i hope u did...):
starcraft_retribution.iso 55.0 MB https://mega.co.nz/#!U88AyY5L!b49Z83XUf2gWtmwMoMbfRWnBGr0NRqGtVjdzQRQJOV0
this is the only thing i found (the insurrection wasn't .iso) for me, it installed, thou i wasn't being able to test it
this is what u get http://i.imgur.com/36FQPxg.png
about dark vengeance, I assume u didn't upload the 2nd mission yet, because you got some troubles, right?

Looks like there's a couple torrents that have them. I'm pretty sure "Aztech New Media" doesn't exist anymore and doesn't mind you taking their software for free. Whether or not they are corrupted is another story. I could have sworn I bought that a long long time ago in a state far away...but I doubt I can find the CD now. Torrents are probably your best bet.
I mean, they aren't canon, but it would be a nice project to convert them I guess. Treat it as a non-canon custom campaign like Crimson Moon

Yeah I'm hoping LOTV gives us some more practical models. My guess is the Matriarch will be in there in some fashion as a flashback of some sort so that'll be nice to replace her with the Selendis portrait. I single that out because there is no changes there, its just using Selendis portrait, which is confusing. Other portraits at least have some template color changes. I like what was done with Stukov being human model, however. So I just mean more of that.
I just thought of something else that would be fun to add to do another playthrough....achievements. Keep some sort of record data at the main menu to keep track of what you've achieved per map. Wonder if there is already some template already out there to do something like that?
I feel like I need to get into SC2 map coding now... @Jayborino - You interested in testing Insurrection out?

Second mission actually just went public about an hour ago. I've actually finished the series (it was a nightmare, but in a good way...), just uploading one every other day over the course of this week. The videos are all pretty long so I wanted to give people time to watch if they don't on the first day. Further, the available custom content for me to record is going to be running low soon so I'm trying to ration how frequent I upload it.
I feel like I need to get into SC2 map coding now... @Jayborino - You interested in testing Insurrection out?
I'd be interested in trying out Insurrection if you made some of the maps... they are more giant macro maps though. The voice acting and story is very tacky as well, but hey, there seems to be a demand for them. I also was interested in trying my hand at converting one or two. If it goes well, I'd like to start a project to do the whole thing assuming Telenil gives his blessing to use the SCMR mod. Again, I have access to some ISO's but they did not unpack/install properly. The download valas found look promising so I'll give it a shot. Making something like this is a huuuuuuge commitment!

It is tacky, that's why it's not canon. But I think what some folks were thinking about was to improve upon it greatly. We can use the existing voice..um..."talent"... to the maps and even the existing converted SC1-SC2 map layout, but add much better gameplay value and even change the plot around to turn it into a great custom campaign. I don't see any barring reasons to change that since its a poor non-canon campaign to begin with. So the finished product could be something called "based" on Insurrection, but not a point for point conversion. That's my take on it at least so it can be at least enjoyable to playthrough. If I remember correctly, I gave up on those maps because they were just as you say destroy everything without much plot. The SC1 maps are different, you can't change much besides adding small cutscene tweaks here and there. That's canon and law to the SC universe

Thanks so much for your hard work! I am playing this as soon as I get home

I don't like to complain about something free, but these Precursor missions kind of suck! Not necessarily your fault but ... oh wait, it kind of is because you had the opportunity to fix sucky oddball things Blizzard did in these maps and you didn't. The minerals and gas are like a billion miles away from your base and the buildings you're given are so spread out that they're just plain indefensible. Sure, I can fly them into a practical layout but why should I have to? As with all heroes in Mass Recall, General Duke is a useless piece of crap who can't hide his fat lazy useless butt with the "Please Kill Me! I'll Be Your Dead BFF!! <3" sign taped to it anywhere deep and dark enough that the enemy won't find him. FOR THE LOVE OF AUIR, BUFF THE HEROES!! or at least give us shuttles to hide them in corners of the map with

I have access to some ISO's but they did not unpack/install properly. I have a fully working version of both Insurrection and Retribution that I'd be willing to share with anyone interested in porting, but don't do useless heroes please. A real army would not be defeated because of losing one officer, or if they would be then he'd keep off the battlefield completely. This is like those terrible escort missions in other games. http://www.complex.com/pop-culture/2013/05/ten-of-the-worst-video-game-escort-missions-ever/

Maybe that was intended. Long time ago, when stories where great, not everything was intended to be possible, and losing was sometimes a wanted outcome.
