This is the 1000th reply in the Mass Recall thread, and the milestone has been reached during the national holiday in my country. Funny how these things go.
Work on version 5.2 is in progress. Part of the update will be correcting various bugs and minor issues that were spotted thanks to the YouTube playthroughs, but as I have mentionned earlier, version 5.2 will include additionnal content: that will be the Loomings aka Precursor campaign, 5 + tutorial missions that were delivered as a Starcraft demo!
Expect the usual Mass Recall format with the original voice acting and three difficulty levels. I have aimed for a difficulty on par with the beginning of episodes 1 and 2 - not too hard but a step above the original maps, which were easy to the point of being trivial. I expect the maps to be released in late August.
As always, thanks to everyone for your support and encouragement! =)

Holy shit! I'm so excited! When I was a kid, the StarCraft demo was all I had to play, so I played the shit out of it. It's a big part of my childhood, seeing it finally remade in this project will be a dream come true! Thank you very much Mass Recall Team! You guys are awesome!
Imagining it as a more challenging campaign... So cool! I'm sure you guys will do it justice.

Very awesome, looking forward to extending my playthrough!

Hmm I don´t want to download some packs or install any emulators. Isn´t there a way to get sc1 campaign into arcade?

Well, the way is to spend at least $120 (not counting Legacies of the Void) to buy enough Starcraft 2 accounts to upload 68 maps. Technically possible, but not an investment I'm willing to make in the forseeable future.

I have search on the forum but I haven't found: Is there a french version of mass recall (with the 2014 update)?
|
With this 5.2 update, the only "official" additional maps left out will be the Enslavers 1 & 2?
|
@Telenil any chance of you using the new tilesets of HotS? Back then you had to use a custom created ice terrain, but wouldn't be the Kaldir tileset better to use? Don't know if it's even possible to implant them. great campaign so far, will def. look into it!

Anyone else having problems loading maps with the new update? Only way to load maps now is to select them as default maps

I'm still iffy on those two. They served more as teasers that "hey, maybe Stukov isn't dead after all!" than actual parts of a "trilogy" of maps. Stukov's mere existence is quite literally the ONLY thing that Resurrection takes from those maps, except for small details like the pirates recovering schematics for a Skullder unit like the one you gain during Resurrection.
And Mercenaries 2 really only functions as a multiplayer map; aside from Stukov giving the briefing, the only tie it has to the first map only appears if you have three players. Otherwise it simply doesn't spawn.
|
Oh yeah, forgot about the Stukov-trilogy; silly me, I even had a document to roll these things up in the correct order! Thanks for the link of the Enslavers 1 & 2, though! Would be nice to see the project engulf these additions and merge into the ultimate SC1 remake that is as complete and feature rich as it could be! I might even consider upgrading from my Starter Edition to full version because of this mod! (already tinkering with the idea)
Edit: Insurrection and Retribution are considered semi-canonical, so if the team has nothing to fix and want to take on a new challenge, adapting the maps and the story of those 2 "official" expansions would even further improve the completeness of the mod pack. Just an idea, not sure if it has been taken into account already, though.

I would personally leave Enslavers I and II behind along with Mercenaries II, they don't really impact anything on the story. At least Deception was fun to play with some original elements thrown in, can be played alone and ties in nicely with Resurrection IV with the Skullder and the fact that you can actually see Stukov flee.

Hi, here's an image of an overlord that looks more like SC1's overlord. Can you make something like this for the Retro version? https://i.imgur.com/Tff9XNT.png

Also I'd love a retro command center. I think the "wrecked command center" doodad looks like a BW command center. Maybe you could make something that looks like that.
Lastly, could you make the missile turret spin indefinitely like in SC1? Like it keeps spinning and spinning.
EDIT: Here's a picture of the SC2 alpha command center, it could look like this http://bildr.no/image/79562.jpeg

Kaldir weather effects were added (I found them a little intrusive in the playthroughs), but I don't what tileset is used, or even how difficult it would be to change it.

We will never run out of things to fix. But aside from that, the problem with these maps is that they are rarely more than "take your full tech tree and destroy those giants bases", the only change being the race of your enemy. This, in turn, requires somewhat convoluted plots where one race minds control another. Sometimes it works (Dark Vengeance), sometimes it just feels stretched (Retribution). In any case, Insurrection and Retribution are way too large (30 missions with branches, each) to be reallistically considered. That makes more maps than Starcraft and Brood War combined.
When there is no voice acting, it becomes even more difficult to make the maps memorable. Dark Vengeance probably has the best plot of the extra maps, but I would have to change the gameplay and mechanics of the missions to make them really enjoyable. I'm a bit reluctant to do that, because the point of Mass Recall is to be a remake of the original, with only a handful of very minor changes.
