placement matches aren't broadcast.

So you're saying it was GOMTV's fault for broadcasting an inconsequential game?

Perhaps you can assign some blame on GOMTV, but once the decision to broadcast has been made, players should at least attempt to play their best. Using some rush strategy is acceptable, this was not

Douchebag GOM

"This tournament was a special 1st year anniversary of launching Starcraft 2 tournaments for the fans."

Makes it BO1

I also like how non biased this post is towards korean culture.

It's mind boggling how upset people are getting about this, also as several people have stated, the double standard is out of control. First world problems, must be nice!

Double standard? How about how you think an RTS is supposed to turn out? You arn't supposed to start off by attacking with all your harvesters. You are supposed to make actual attacking units and attack. Rushing to get them is another thing, but sending workers....

Maybe you should think through before you accuse us of double standards.

What about ToD throwing 2 games in WCG AFTER he beat Cloud?
Where was your fury then?
Naniwa is so easy to hate isnt he.

No one is good enough to waste their best effort on inconsequential games, especially with how many major tournaments there are nowadays. Whatever the best strategy Naniwa had in mind for the game, he should not use it. What irrational people want and expect is for the players to put on a false show of a competition, where they both seem to be trying enough for viewers to successfully suspend their disbelief. If I didn't know better, I'd think you were related to Naniwa. GOM holds a special tournament for everyone and you call them douchebags for making it BO1, lol.

BO1 have always been used in Korea. Also please think about the players. For group stages Bo3 with round robin is akin to playing out a day of MLG through the night.

Or Stephano and BratOk doing the no you take the win, I don't want to play against Sen.
http://www.gosugamers.net/starcraft2/news/16412-bratok-and-stephano-troll-group-f-s-decisive-match

different imo.

Both stephano and brat_OK did funny and silly things.
Making the games at least fun to watch. If Naniwa did something simialr and had fun the game. It would be different. The fact that he did not have the (urge?) to show at least a funny or silly game makes it a lot worse.

They still played the match, Naniwa didn't

who are you to decide what's funny and silly for the rest of us?

probe rush is funny and silly as much as BC rush in Stephano vs BratOK is. and equally "fair play", no matter how you justify it ;-)

+1
I thought Nani's rush was hilarious.

What does "no one is good enough to waste their best effort" even mean? Obviously we don't expect players to use some secret build they have been saving, but at least treat it like a ladder match

If a game is pointless, then you shouldn't have to play it out. If you watch the team leagues in SC1, if they match is over, the don't play the rest of the games, it's already set. Naniwa had no incentive to win, or even really try in the last game, and neither does Nestea. It is considered bad-mannered, but it's blown way out of proportion.

Which would be the false show of competition Tyler mentions later in the post, please don't tell me you would actually watch something like that?

i think it was extremely bm.... its like saying 2 football teams playing but have no shot at makin the playoffs, do they still not play? theres fans who paid to be there to watch them play and its televised with a staff and everything. its like a smack to the face of everyone involved. not cool on what he did. but other than that..... hes still a good toss, ill still watch him if he streams

Tyler said it best right here. I think that many people just don't have any empathy for how hard it is to be a pro gamer.

Tyler. What about you? Do you think Naniwa's actions were justified? Or was it disgraceful?

Good call? You selfish bastards out there should think about what Naniwa's actions imply.

First of all, E-sports is big in Korea. Go youtube the MSL, OSL matches and look at the crowd they produce. If that's not enough, then look through TL BW Forums, look at the pictures. Does your brain now register how recognised E-sports is in Korea? Now look back at what Naniwa just did. Nestea just wanted to play a good game with Naniwa, and what did he do? Probe rush. No attempt at proxy gate or anything, straight up probe rush.

How can you blame this on the format? This is a showmatch to begin with, so fucking show some respect to Koreans at least, show some respect to viewers too. If you are fed up, well we know, and we will continue rooting for you after this tournament but just play the game like it's meant to be played, not attack with ONLY workers, which arn't even meant to be attacking units.

Show some respect to Koreans? Like how they showed Naniwa respect when they (MVP team) refused to train with him? It sure is outraging when a player probe rushes a meaningless game. But it's not when a team refuses to practice with a fellow member and downright let him find his own practice partners? This has gone WAAAY to far. There is like 1313213213 things that players has done that is worse than Nani's probe rush, and this is not limited to foreigners only.

Naniwa does not deserve this kind of hate, especially for showing us some of the best matches of today. Im certain that if another player had done this, he would not even get half of the hate Nani is getting, which is just downright disturbing since he probably doesn't even understand why he gets all this hate.

I'm a huge fan of you and all, but I think this is wrong. Not wanting to show your A game is one thing, but shouldn't you at least play the game? How can we promote E-sports if there are pro-gamers out there who just send their workers out there from the start without a tier 1 unit in a professional broadcasted match? I'd rather Naniwa double proxy gate outside of Nestea's main base blatently than going for a worker rush like that, which at least would give the illusion of him putting in some effort to win the game.
