I mean, Protoss ALREADY has the most offensive casters in the game: Sentry: very powerful and versatile HT: very powerful and versatile
Terran also has two offensive casters, but players haven't needed to rely on them yet (too many useful techpaths already). The ghost is finally being used while the raven seems less useful but is also unexplored.
And finally there's Zerg with only one real offensive caster, which is damn good though. The queen is just a walking macro mechanic with inject and tumor. Heal has its moments, but usually while defending and extremely rarely when attacking.. definitely not a powerful caster in that sense..
So yeah, Protoss has the least need for an offensive caster. Maybe it's the replacement of the Collossus, since that unit has a failed design. Powerful, siege range AND being mobile AND easy to use is a failure in design.
Wait, since when was it confirmed to be a caster?
I hope it has a really dark, sharp and sinister look, switching races to who ever has the coolest shit this expansion

Protoss is clearly getting scourge

I believe it's an anti-heavy air unit, quite possibly with a strong Air-to-Air attack that deals extra to armoured/massive targets.
At the same time, i believe it might have 2 modes for this unit, such as switching from Air-to-Air to Air-to-Ground, but would be researchable at the fleet beacon (say 100/100 cost). Variants of this would be making it immobile when it's on Air-to-Ground mode, similar power to a photon cannon, perhaps with splash damage/multi-target hit.

It would be hilarious, albeit a little unlikely, if it wasn't an air unit at all.

It's very likely that it's not a walking or driving unit. However, it could be a hovering ground unit like the sentry.
I don't really believe that it's an air unit just because protoss already has so many of them (plus collossus kinda is semi-air). If they took out an existing air unit (phoenix maybe) this could be a replacement though.
Otherwise i'm going with hovering ground unit.

I hope it's not a light-armored air AOE unit. That's not going to help versus early- and mid-game mass marines that are the real issue with most one-base terran strategies. "Oh, he build that new protoss unit? Guess I'll just stim and run underneath them and then go run him over." Protoss needs its version of the baneling, not its version of the mutalisk.

I would rather have the equivalent of the Hellion, something fast with AOE that can take care of Zerglings and Marines.

but before anything, i really hope blizzard updates the Carriers so they can return to their old glory. how bad they are in SC2 (well, i guess except for a handful of specific situations) is really insulting to the entire Protoss race. the symbol of the legend of fall needs to be revived Unfortunately, having carriers like they were in BW would break the game. In what way? Carriers in SC2 are better than their SC1 equivalents. No carrying capacity upgrade, Intercepters do more damage, etc. The problem isn't the Carriers themselves. The problem is that SC1 Carriers never had to deal with Corruptors and Vikings. So long as units like them exist, it will be more cost effective to kill Carriers than to keep them alive until you get enough to make a real Carrier-based push.
You do realize that even in SC:BW... Carriers sucked shit. Korean commentators regularly called them space trash... Carriers were so expensive and utterly micro intensive that they were horrible units in general... Having Carriers like they were in BW in SC2 would just mean that every once in a while a Protoss would get mega ahead and curbstomp you in a more creative way...

Then you'd just see more roaches and mauraders.

What the fuck are you talking about, Carriers were one of the two viable late game tech paths for BW PvT. If Terran doesn't scout Carrier tech switch they just die; even if they scout it's extremely hard to deal with since it forces Goliath aka less Tanks.

And the zerg unit will probably be like a reaver in BW :D

Looks a lot like skinny Urun. Pretty pumped for Blizzcon

Carriers in SC1 could be microed, their interceptor would continue to hit even if the carrier would be moving away from their target. I don't think it's the same in SC2, and SC2 carrier are also slower.
By the way I don't really understand people : this unit is a corsair it's obvious. They will just tweak his spells and his attack a little.

mh looks like marines will counter this unit??

Do you even know what you are talking about? Jangbi used carriers to win the most recent starleague, and they have always been viable.
