Some people have been saying they want the lurker back, and others have been saying they definately DONT want the lurker back. So Blizz is hardly "not giving people what they want"

It was in the alpha of SC2, but no one really used it, and it overlaps too much with the baneling.

I'd much rather see something new and interesting

Maybe it could be a evolution of a Queen? (though hydra/roach evolution looks more plausible). If it is from the queen, it could be a spellcaster: remove spawn larvae, add "healing cloud"/"dark swarm'ish" AoE buff?

Or, how about a scourge-launcher?

After reading a good portion of this thread and seeing many illustrations i'm beginning to lean toward this unit being a rolling siege unit.

Rolling around fast to keep up with the zerg army somewhat and morphing/unfurling into the depicted picture out of rolling form

Either Burrowing or digging its claws to the ground when switching to siege or aoe mode or what not.

This unit looks cool hope their going to add more Zerg units than just this unit though.. would really like to see Lurkers or some other Ground unit

I'd say its those acid spore cannons from the campaign mission Gates of Hell, but in a smaller scale. Gameplay wise, I think it will be a slow moving, heavy armored artillery unit that can shoots acid spores from long range that also does splash damage, essentially a baneling cannon without the suicide. However, it has to be deployed as a stationary unit in order to fire, like the siege tank. It has no attacks when not in deployed mode.

Possible stats:
HP: 150
Armor: 1
Damage 35 + splash
Cooldown: 2.5
Range: 9
Speed: 2.25
Speed bonus on creep: x1.1

Cost: 100min + 100 gas + 3 supply
Morphs from Hydralisk, also requires baneling nest.

This is the unit. Plasma bug from Starship Troopers..... Blizzard will put a twist on it though, it will shoot like green slime that explodes or maybe even shoot purple balls that make creep... who knows.

I would be kind of sad if it was a Zerg siege tank. That acted just like a siege tank and stopped to fire and did splash :/ then SC2 will become more like a vanilla every race is similar but slightly different kind of thing.

I do realize that the following seems unlikely given that the image clearly dictates a zerg siege acid cannon.

However this is what i would like to see:

In the campaign there are droping zerg units that explode creating a small patch of creep and spawn eggs.

I would like to see this creature do the same. Shoot a explosive acidic ball of creep that does a fair amount of damage. but also places creep on the ground.

Except I don't even consider it a siege unit.

Most people consider the defining attribute of a siege unit to have a ranged attack that exceeds static defenses. The lurker only had a range of 6. Static defenses out-ranged it and so did unsieged tanks for that matter.

A positional control unit I will agree but not a siege unit.

Did anyone think of the pokemon Paras the first time they saw the picture? o.O

I wouldn't be surprised though if it was an inspiration of the Plasma Bug, since a lot of the units are inspired from something. Ex. the naming convention of the units, the Warhammer-like appearance of Terran, etc.
