There is no chance a guy with minimal results in the foreign Sc2 scene 2-0's the best ZvT player on the planet. DRG will roll him no problems.
This has the potential to be my favorite tournament in Sc2 to date. Awesome players all around, and every single one has a storyline going in. Love it.
2GD fuck yeah , he added 200% of entertainement value to stockholm invitationnal. My only concern is that spanish people are not known to be really good in english ( in fact most of them are terribad), i hope he'll still manage to communicate with the public.
I got excited when I thought this might be played on the 16th, but then I realised its actually the 17th that the invitational takes place?? Ahh im gutted if thats the case, but it makes more sense to do it that way for most people, c'est la vie
Im envious of those who can watch, because this is going to be one badass little event. Free 720p never goes down badly *hint hint other tournaments* haha
Edit: Impressively I managed to get not only the tournament dates wrong but my own now too! It turns out I do get to watch afterall :D Lets get Slasher shaving that hair all the way off foreigners!
I think the brackets looks really nice HuK vs ThorzaiN should be pretty interesting. Dont know anything about Lucifron but people seems to think he will be able to deliever.
I hope IdrA can be competitive against hero ... but dunno.. That guy is scaaaaaaaary.
Hell yeah! I knew Dreamhack wouldn't let us down. You can't go wrong with 2GD. The guy is seriously out of control awesome. I'm sure Bright will prove to be an excellent host as well.
As for the actual event..while it seems to be easy money for DRG the lineup is pretty damn impressive by foreign standards, and I'm sure everyone will put up an amazing display.

No he can't. DRG is several levels above. We're talking about a guy with the all time most wins in GSTL, a 75% win ratio in Korea overall in a match he has a 15-5 record in against guys like SC, Ganzi, MMA, Polt, MarineKing, Nada and Supernova.
In foreign events DRG hasn't lost a match versus a non Korean at LAN and only Huk and Slush have been able to take a game from him.
There is no chance that Lucifron, a guy with no notable results in Sc2 will take down the best ZvT player in the world.

Lucifron is able to take games consistently from Europe best ZvTer, Stephano. If I think there's a terran on europe who can do it, it definitely is Lucifron.

I agree with this so much, every time Nani and Thorzain face off they are entertaining but it's unlikely to happen this tournament. Thorzain I can see making the finals ( Huk is really the biggest challenge for him on that side of the bracket) but there is no way Nani is getting through his side of the bracket this time. Rain is beatable but it's likely DRG takes down lucifron and Naniwa still seems utterly perplexed by korean zergs. I can hope for my dream finals with my fav players but I know it's unlikely.
* I bet you they broke Thorzain and Nani up in the fans meetings so they wouldn't ignore the fans and talk to each other lol.
All in all I'm really excited to see how this tournament plays out and what sort of skills everyone brings to the table.

Hero is better than Thorzain, I don't know why people write him off. Idra could beat Thorzain too but he probably wont beat Hero in a ZvP to get there. Rain is the best NA based player right now and is being heavily underrated as usual.

In TvP I would not necessarily say that Hero is better than ThorZain. ThorZain is very good in TvP and I can easily see him defeating Hero if he survives to mid-game phase.
I hope Huk takes it! He's been kinda down on foreign tourneys and people are forgetting ho good he is. Man I wish IdrA would stop slumping too but HerO is going to be one tough guy to break your slump on. Sorry Lucifron, I don't think you have a chance

I'm not writing Hero off, he's dangerous but I don't see him as a big threat to Thorzain. PvT currently favours terran and many would consider Thorzain to be better ( or at least more consistent than ) than Select whom Hero lost to at mlg and Sjow whom he nearly lost to. It's possible that if they meet that Hero could beat Thorzain I just don't think it's likely. Not that a single set between them at a single tournament could determine who was better the player anyways.
I think that being on the same side of the bracket at DRG who is beastly against terrans makes it unlikely for Rain to advance to the finals. Anything can happen I'm just stating what I feel is most likely to happen. I doubt most people think badly of Rain's skills ( he had some sick timings at mlg) but he is beatable and I feel DRG is favoured over Rain if should they meet.
The stockholm invitational was the first SC2 tourney I ever watched - and was also one of the best. I have full confidence that this will be awwwwwsuuuuuuuuum
2GD = Winning! Funniest man in esports. No, scratch that. Funniest man in the world!....no pressure.
This tournament has everything. If the crowd is anything like I expect from spanish people + Thorzain or Naniwa wins, this will top every tournament to date. Easy.

Who said anything about a guaranteed victory? Just giving credit where its due, LucifroN displayed incredible TvZ against arguably the 2 best foreign Zerg atm. Thats all, hes certainly not a "weak" player
I wonder if the Huk-Thorzain match from the Masters Cup last night was a sign of things to come at dreamhack. They looked so evenly matched, it was like an unintentional hype match for a completely seperate tournament but its got me even more looking forward to Saturday!
Also that hype video is fantastic, I love the kid talking about spending money fast, and the woman talking about her husband haha. The only thing that I dont get is why shes staying up late to watch the GSL stream. If I was her husband I wouldnt understand that either given that its on at 11am CET.. me thinks this woman isnt being faithful...

Lots of ppl was hyping Nerchio as the best Zerg in EU and foreign. Even said he can win a GSL title. And then what? He lost in the first round of the play-off bracket at IEM... Sorry I'm not really interested in all these hyping in foreigners.

Agreed. We've seen this euro hype train before and it must work in cycles by race. The last two to receive this level of hype were Kas and Happy and we've all seen how they've done nothing really of note at lans. Now it's time to hype the zergs of nericho and stephano. Until those two do something of note at a major lan, then I'm staying off the hype train.
You could win all the the online craft/zotac or whatever cups you want, but I still wouldn't put any of those achievements to anything on par with a good showing at an mlg.

You are aware that LucifroN destroyed Nerchio & Stephano a few days ago right?
You are aware that DongRaeGu has some of the best ZvT in the world, right? Stephano and Nerchio are both great, but they're not nearly as hardworking or as talented as DongRaeGu. I'd love to see Lucifron win, but honestly, I doubt he has what it takes.
Love how everyone is already counting Rain completely out. He's a really good player, even if he cheesed a lot in GSL. People need to learn that he has a much more solid style of play and that he's a great player. Here's my predicitons: HuK vs ThorZaIN IdrA vs HerO LucifroN vs DongRaeGu NaNiwa vs Rain
Granted, none of that could come true, but I think ThorZaIN's TvP (especially with the time he recently spent in the SlayerS house will mean that he can beat HuK and HerO. HerO's PvZ really impresses me, so I think he stands a really good chance against IdrA. Lucifron might have really good TvZ (good enough to beat Nerchio and Stephano) but it's DongRaeGu. Of the first round matches, I think that NaNiwa vs Rain is the closest of the match-ups (either that one or ThorZaIN vs HuK). NaNiwa is a fantastic player, but so is Rain. Granted, I haven't seen a whole lot of his TvP since he left Korea and started showing his macro, but if it's as good as his TvT or even his TvZ he could stand a really good chance at taking down one of Europe's best. If NaNiwa wins, I wouldn't be surprised, but I think that Rain will win just because of how solid he has shown himself to be.

Well, EG did get 2 players invited to an 8 man tournament. Yes they could have been on opposite sides of the bracket, but its not like they are playing each other in the first round. I'm just glad there are no mirror matches in the first round.

Well to be fair to the "Euro Hype Train" (which I admit goes overkill at times) Kas did way more than "nothing". He pulled in a 2nd at Copenhagen games which might not have the name of MLG but certainly had a lineup as strong or stronger than most of the pre-Korean MLG's. Not to mention 3rd in TSL which isnt something to sniff at. And in the case of Nerchio/Stephano, S has a 3rd at Assembly, outperforming Nada, Sen and Huk, done pretty damn well in certain + Show Spoiler +

and Nerchio has done excellently in things like IPL2.

Oh come on, you just can't get over the fact that NA has 0 talent (besides Huk of course)! If Lucifron doesn't suffer from nerve issues I think he'll be the surprise of the tournament.
2GD hwaiting!!. Really enjoyed his commentary last time with TLO . Would love to see him paired up with an analytical commentator like Artosis or Day[9] or a top level player, but gotta wait and see how this works out.
But jeez, stacked tourney, other than Lucifron (whoever that is).
Finals? I'm guessing DRG and Thorzain, but HuK and Naniwa could just as easily get there. If IdrA doesn't give up right away and Rain is in form we could see them too.
DRG i will be cheering for you! i seriously think no one can take this guy out at the moment, he is on such a high, maybe MVP or Nestea probably. The only competition i see in this tournament is Hero, and that should be a good match, but DRG will come out on top
(sorry idra, but i am actually voting against you on this one )

What? No one can take him out? In ZvP and ZvZ theres alot of players favored against him/have beaten him recently. Even in ZvT his only truly exceptional matchup, MMA and MVP would likely beat him.
Whatever happens i hope thorzain wins, i can never get tired of watching him dismantle people. Also i think this will be one of the sickest sc2 tourneys to date, it has the players, casters, production (if it is anything like the last invitational) , and 2GD
2GD doesn't seem to care at all for Starcraft 2. He is just another of these esports "celebrities" that tries to make some money out of any game that is the flavor of the month. Doesn't even bother to check on who the players are prior to a tournament he is casting and since he doesn't care about the game he has no clue about any player on his own. Just check his "cast" of the Swedish WCG qualifier where he outright insults the players.
As for the event, it is awesome. Getting canal+ and Aftonbladet involved is absolutely huge in terms of mainstream coverage. I mean Aftonbladet alone has five million viewers per day and canal+ probably a lot more than that.

Was it you he insulted? You forgot he's hurting Elly as well. He's been around for ages, he was a pro player and has been presenting/casting games for a few years. Anyway, I blame his team of researchers, they obviously let him down.
If Hero wins vs Idra, and Lucifron wins vs DRG (!), there is a good chance of ThorZain vs Naniwa finals! They have lived in the same room for 1 month spamming TvP, and they were even good at TvP before :p gogo

um I could actually see Hero beating DRG. What people don't know is that they are actually like 5-5 in total games played. (3-4 at MLG) Code A qualifier (the one before july) and GSTL. Also, it is hard to predict Thorzain vs Huk. Both are really good players and it could go either way.

sorry, but IdrA and HuK will not meet, HerO will absolutely crush him. IdrA is not on the level of HerO and will never be in his current form. This could definitely change once he goes back to Korea, but until then, IdrA is no match. HuK vs Thorzain is quite even in my mind, Thorzain did almost all kill MVP, and his TvP is insane. GOGO Thorzain! :D
I used to love 2GD when I first listened to him casting Quake3 many moons ago but unfortunately he turned into a giant douche
Alass he is new to the SC2 scene so everyone "loves" him at the mo. Tis only a matter of time.
I think majority of people who loves him, knows him from other games as well. Everyone kinda know that he can be a little bit of a douche sometimes but he's still a great host and a smooth talker as well as sometimes very controversial figures.
The hosts are the casters? If so this really kills the event for me despite the awesome line-up, because these two wouldn't have a clue as to what's going on in game and that really takes out the excitement of its complexity - the reason people play and watch it to begin with, for the most part. Hope there are actual SC2 casters!

Wait shit all this time I thought that this was on Friday and not Saturday... damn. There is no way that I will be able to wake up in time for nearly any of this after staying up for AoL and OSL finals Friday night. If it was Friday then I would just be waking up at 9am and watching SC till 8 or 9am Saturday. O.o
Hmm, time to replan everything out in my head... not sure what I will do. Guess I could wake up late on Friday so that I could just ride through AoL, OSL, and DH in a smooth (but sleepy) fashion but I was planning on playing some frisbee and then hiking some on Friday. gahhhhhh

Aw, this is terrible news.
It's a real shame to see amazing players in poor condition because of the flight coming so close to the event.

You should go watch his casting with TLO at WCG Sweden qualifiers here:
They were hysterical. At times I laughed more at this than I do when I watch good stand up-comedy. Between games was more entertaining than the actual games most of the time.

i can't see lucifron's tvz being better than the koreans'. as is drg is slaughtering over there so i do think a 2:0 or a 2:1 is more than feasible. if lucifron surprises for the better then send his ass to code A so he can show us what he's got.

DRG's TvZ is some of the best. I don't know too much about Lucifron, but judging by his TvZ matches on his TLPD page, he doesn't seem to play too many top notch zergs, and when he does, his results are usually sub-par. DRG's TvZ is played against only the best, and he wins the majority of the time.
I see very little chance of Lucifron even taking a game off of DRG.

I thought this was relatively self explanatory:
This Friday, 16th of September, DreamHack South Europe starts at Veles e Vents in Valencia, Spain. It kick-offs with the Regional Finals in Counter-Strike 1.6, StarCraft 2 and Super Street Fighter IV where the best players from Spain, Portugal, France and Italy will battle it out to determine the Regional DreamHack-champions 2011 and also qualify for the Grand Finals at DreamHack Winter 2011.
Basically, should be regional stuff today, and the invitational is tomorrow o-o

What has Lucifron done in StarCraft 2 yet? He beat Stephano and Nerchio in an online tournament? 100% agree with this post! I think part of the backlash is just due to the fact that euros like to hype the hell out of certain players. Some deserve it and some don't. Lucifron is someone not deserving of that hype, yet we had so many people here saying that he would beat drg. Like apollo said, lucifron wasn't in drg's class and drg made him look like a gold leaguer. I'm fine with hyping someone up cause I do it too, but only for people that deserve it.

But jeez, stacked tourney, other than Lucifron (whoever that is).
Finals? I'm guessing DRG and Thorzain, but HuK and Naniwa could just as easily get there. If IdrA doesn't give up right away and Rain is in form we could see them too.
Ah, going to be so exciting.
if you dont know who lucifron is, no need to be condescendant, it doesnt make him worse, just makes you look like an idiot since the guy has been a top gun since the beta luci will prove everyone wrong at this tour. and to the achievment whiners, luci won an eswc live tourney with moon grubby etc while he came at the top of wc3 years after them. this is how good this guy is.
I'm not sure if I should write anything about this tournament's results, but there's so many posts about how great Lucifron is, so I just want to address all those people in this thread with this post: + Show Spoiler +
Don't you and all the European hype people look silly now. I knew who Lucifron was because he was big in WarCraft 3; but I hadn't heard a thing about him in StarCraft 2 other than that he plays. And one's WarCraft 3 results don't directly translate into their StarCraft 2 results (Moon and Grubby, both players you've mentioned basically prove that--though I'm sure that in the future if they focus more on StarCraft 2 they'll do a lot better). DongRaeGu is DONG RAE FRICKIN GU! Go check the GSTL scoreboard, he's #1; plus he's Code S, has placed 4th and 3rd place in his first two MLGs, won the LG Cinema 3D tournament, and on top of all that while playing against Lucifron he was playing his strongest match-up.
What has Lucifron done in StarCraft 2 yet? He beat Stephano and Nerchio in an online tournament? Okay, now he's at a LAN playing against the best player in the world who no doubt practices and plays the game more than him. All the people who were like "You're stupid if you don't know Lucifron, he's gonna destroy DRG" all look really stupid. Lucifron may be a great player, hell he could have the best TvZ in all of Europe, and I still don't think he would have beaten DRG (personally I think that Europe's best TvZ wound up meeting DRG in the finals anyways and ThorZaIN still couldn't beat DRG in that epic series).
Then again, I rememberwhen another fairly unknown European Terran who I remembered from WarCraft 3 was going up against one of the best Korean Zergs and I was arguing that the European Terran had a good shot.
I was with you up until the "the best player in the world" comment. It's funny how you call those people stupid and yet you go and make a comment like that. Oh the irony.
He probably meant best zvt in the world because that part is true. He won't be best in the world yet till his zvp and zvz get better, which is why I label Nestea as best zerg in the world, with DRG/Losira being 2a/2b behind him.

Yeah sorry about that. I meant to say that Lucifron was going up against a player with the best ZvT in the world. The best players in the world are probably either NesTea or Mvp.
