very awesome stuff! Good to see ESWC staying strong!
|
I never understand why tournaments demand money from players. 200 per player if I'm reading that correctly, why?
|
the same date as blizzcon?
|
glad to see DotA strong and LoL not being in there. SC2 prize money is so huge compared to other games... counter strike has to be split to 5 players!
|
This is the big French one, right?
Great prize pool! Here's hoping there'll be lots of good EU talent competing.
|
Another big tournament in October!
- GSL October (with the first final outside out of Korea!) & GSTL S1 finals - Blizzcon 2011 - ESWC 2011 - IEM Guangzhou - MLG Orlando - IPL 3
Best SC2 month ever?

Yes which is extremely unfortunate. ESWC is taking place at Paris Games Week and these dates got fixed last year. Before the Blizzcon announcement. So we'll miss out some top tier players unfortunately. But since Blizzcon doesn't have that many players in their tournament, there should be more than enough top tier players competing in the tournament.

Tournaments usually demands a deposit for the same reason you put a deposit for anything (apartment rental, car purchase, hotel reservation) - make sure people show up and on time. The damage that a tournament incur from a no-show will never be recovered by the deposits, but it does give the players a personal, financial stake in getting to the tournament.

Only for those players who do not have a qualifier in their country. A better alternative for those outside the system than not being able to compete at all.

It is to ensure their attendance. Compared to travel and hotel costs, the fee isn't that much.

Did eswc pay out the prizes for the warcraft3 players? I remember seeing article that talked about how eswc never payed the prize to who (wc3 player)

Well, the old ESWC went bankrupt a couple of years ago and prize money did not get paid out. Which sucks off course. But the brand got sold, and last year relaunched with an new tournament. Last years prize money got fully paid, including the Warcraft 3 tournament.
Btw. all old-ESWC events, except the last one (where they went bankrupt) got paid out.
All defending champions get invited for the 2011 event. LYN won last year the Wc3 tournament and I'm currently talking to him whether he will attend the event as Starcraft 2 player.

Are you a representative of Games solution or Oxent ?
|
Is the picture some kind of: "which one doesn't fit in?" :D awesome stuff anyway, looking forward to it ;-)

Also IEM New York is happening on the same weekend as MLG Orlando.
I also believe IeSF finals are taking place at the same time as IPL3

Would be really awesome if one player could manage to win two tournamets. And which tournaments are going to colide? IEM and Orlando?

ESWC and Blizzcon on the same weekend?
|

Yes but regarding streaming schedule, i don't think it will collide.
|
Why is that bad? Blizzcon features 6-7 good players, and I dont think all of them would be in contention for a spot at ESWC anyway.. With so short time to go, how is the qualifier/signups/restrictions sorted?
Ok, so chinese and swedish players (2nd and 3rd strongest sc2-countries) who got $200 can just apply themselves.. Hope they have a few spots, would like to see Morrow, ThorZaIN & SaSe, the latter two've had some success at ESWC before...
|
I hope there is no trouble paying out prizes like ESWC has had in the past..
|

That was when they were owned by another guy or company, they then went bankrupt, and were bought out by a French company, they payed all money last year within 60 days i think, maybe im wrong, but they did pay it.
They made a bank thing which proved they had the money in their account, not sure how its called in English :D..
|
Problem is the ancient team (now Oxent) is operating the event for the new company. So I would really like to know who is gonna pay the money at the end, the guys who went bankrupt or the new ones ?
|
I hope this can live up to the ESWC's of old. Last years event in "Disney Land" seemed a little lack lustre from the photos I saw. I guess if its at Paris Games thingy it should be able to get a fairly good attendance.
|
Knowing what an ESWC license ( the right to host a qualifier & send a team/player to ESWC ) used to cost couple years back, 200$ a player or 1000$ a team is nothing. But last year they pissed off a shitload of people resulting this year in a rather shit ( excuse my French ^^ ) turnout of qualifiers for the games, mainly team games I'm guessing. Their preliminary country list even includes a country yet to be discovered on this planet :o
Anyway, can only cheer for the awesome prize pool & number of games ( yes CS:S ) but I'm guessing they are gonna go for a healthy pool of nationalities instead over 10 Sweeds 9 Americans 15 Koreans and so on. Afterall it's a World Cup =P ( I do however expect an absurd number of French players )

In order to give the champions from all over the world the possibility to take part in ESWC, the organizing committee has decided to expand the capacity of the tournaments. As of today, an application form is available on http://www.eswc.com/en/2011/registration. These applications are reserved exclusively to player teams who do not have a national ESWC qualification system set up in their country.
That's pretty awesome considering the amount of money required to become a country with national qualifiers.
When can we expect the list of qualified players from the 27 nations that had qualifiers?

Oxent is hired to assist organizing the event, they have tremendous amount of experience. But the one that pays the prize money at the end of the day is still Games Solutions.

GG WC3, you beautiful, lovely, absolutely brilliant game. You had a good run.

Separate tournament for "female" in 1.6 seems so condescending.

What are the arguments for a separate cs female only tournament? I'd like to hear them.

Khaldor stream so quiet T.T

Where can we see which game is going to be on which stream?

Demand. As there were no women present in the male dominated CS tournaments, there were people who wanted to see competition among women. There was interest, thus sponsoring, thus tournaments. People can argue about the fairness and the competition all day but in the end the demand is what matters.

wow that is sick with the 9-16 each getting 1k!

Also where can I find the bracket?
I followed the link in the OP and it was linking to the payout distribution among games.
(The only reason I know this is going on at all is because of an EG Tweet.)
