I think what competetions should do is broadcast, both players screens aswell as the observer screen.

And then allow us to use programs such as Warpprism and Wellplayed.tv to view all 3 perspective.

Really give you the best viewer experience

SC2 players are no flash's or jaedongs, all the streams are FP views and I rarely see anything that amazes me.. even when watching players like huk and sheth, so I don't think it would be as "awesome" as many people here say.
no dude, the question

This would be pretty cool. The first-person view is one of the reasons I enjoy streams so much. It's much more personal.

I dunno why you guys were making fun of this dude, the best part of watching BW is instantly knowing who is ahead or behind in close situation because of the silly dramatic zoom the camera does on their faces. I wish every game did that, its awesome. It's so over the top for a video game.

SC2 doesn't have the mouse cursor on the screen like BW had, though. If Blizzard could fix this it would be perfect, but I'm sure they left it out for a reason. I'd love for an over-the-shoulder cam to be introduced, though, perhaps we could ask GOM if they think it's a good idea?

Yes.

Watching players like IdrA and Sen spread creep and multitask is a thing of beauty. No joke!

Can someone link some classic first-person view videos from BW? I wasn't acquainted with the Starcraft scene back then, so I don't know of any, but I think it would be awesome for the thread to see some cool examples of the effect in action.

Not as crucial as in BW, because progaming replays in SC2 are a lot more accessible. But since it adds variety to the cast, they could spend half a minute or so on fpv. I also enjoy occasional changes of the camera angle and zoom, when not overdone. Best example: korean obs of launching nukes.

Here is an example from BW, Jaedong's view vs Bisu at WCG 2009; commentary by Tastosis:

안녕하세요,

where people were expressing their wishes to see a first-person view
from the players, like the Brood War matches sometimes had. I, and
many others with me, think that this would be a fantastic addition to
GOM TV's already fantastic work with the GSL, which has made us
subscribe to your services since you started with the GSL.
Now, I understand that this is problematic, since SC2 (unlike Brood
War) does not show the player's mouse cursor when you switch to their
view, and unless Blizzard feel like fixing this, I think we should try
to come up with another solution. Perhaps one could try to mount a
camera inside the booths that capture the players' screens from
behind? I don't know if you feel this is an issue that is worth
addressing, or if it would be too hard for you to implement, but I
just wanted to inform you about our interest, and hope that you keep
on working as hard and well with the GSL as you have before.

감사합니다!

Big tournaments like gom can replicate what was seen in BW, but the ingame function means that if it becomes popular it can be used by anyone to an extend. Really cool I hope this happens.

When I first saw a Jaedong game a few years ago it switched to his FP view and I could not believe how fast it is and I was hooked instantly. Would definitely love it in SC2.

Heh, I remember day9 calling it the doom zoom once. Seems pretty appropriate. ^^ And yeah for someone like me whos not smart, the doom zoom was really helpful to see whos winning.

More to the topic: I certainly wouldnt object to this. I did always like it when they showed the FP views. I'm not too traumatized without it though. :D

Afaik FP view was either non-existent or extremely rare in BW (as in the entirety of the replay after the game, not little snippets every now and then as they play live) except for in WCG because KeSPA respected player's requests to not have their BOs or timings studied extensively.
If here in SC2 we release it to the public it can be viewed through the FP mode anyway, so no minuses on that side. But would you really want to watch a player's FP most of the game? If it is introduced, I would suggest during interesting crises or surprises, such as the opponent's FP when someone 6/7 pools, then stuff like the lings dodging the scout will make the crowd go wild as it did in BW.

From the limited number of BW VODs I've watched, it's usually used after a big battle in a sort of instant replay function to show how awesome the player did. It would be great if MLG et al adopted this and had the tech to do this. Also, I would like some more out of game views, I wanna see Losira's hand DANCE!
