Inside Scoop: Korean teams don't like player replays getting out so they don't want their players playing in NASL. Same reason MLG didn't want to release replays after lots of koreans started playing in it cause they threatened to withdraw. Then they promised replays cause people threw a hissy fit here but still havent released any. Yea...they mad..

Very unfortunate, but I watch the NASL for the pure viewing pleasure of daily Starcraft II, my experience will be unaffected at least!

Thank you for being up front with us, NASL.

It's the Koreans' loss, and it's a pity they don't wish to work harder on an international level.

I am not really interested in ALL the comments. Can just someone say me shortly if there is anything new about NaDa and MC.

As i know so far NASL contacted SK Gaming? Is there anything more yet?

I have contacted SK Gaming and compLexity about their partnership with oGs and MVP, respectively, asking if those players are bound by SC2Con decisions. I've also talked to FXO. I am waiting for responses.

I'm sure the Koreans will post their side of the story sometime tonight or tomorrow, and we'd be glad to respond to that as well. We were a bit forced to act today unfortunately due to someone leaking this information publicly...

okay, hope you will announce the missing information in a new thread, the op or on twitter. Really waiting for this information

And Xeris, i am not sure if i am failing now, but as i know none of the coL-MVP-players is in the NASL Season 2? Only DRG and Genius are playing for coL and MVP as well, both are not in the NASL?

So lets see what NASL is going to end up with after this. Imagine the final without koreans in season 1. Half of the top 16 finalists would be gone, with just 2 remaining players left in the top 8. Sen or Darkforce wouldve won the NASL finals even though neither of them made it out of the quarterfinals. I suspect there will be another big news coming soon to change this situation.

Wow. This is disappointing, that kinda ruins a bit of the next season of NASL. Oh well.

Nop. Koreans are simply better players at this stage. So if they are out, the level of competition and quality of games will consequently decrease.

Yes, instead lets give koreans a blank check to do whatever they please.

This kind of response irritates the hell out of me. Just because he doesn't like one of the extremes of the argument doesn't mean he is automatically at the other end.

It shouldn't be one side versus the other, we are a whole community and some of the posts in this thread are very disheartening

As more time goes on I am getting more and more sick of the korean scenes overall attitude. Could just be a vocal minority but they sure do believe their proverbial crap don't stink.

Considering the foreign scene is much larger than korea in regards to SC2 I feel we owe them nothing at all and they should jump at a chance to give themselves a stronger foot hold in the foreign scene.

Foreign scene isn't larger than Korean scene. Strength of a scene is measured by quality and skill of players because that is the only real long-term value.

Everything else (tournaments, prize money etc) is just temporary, it's basically an inflated bubble. This very thread proves that best.

Korean scene in SC2 did a LOT for the foreign scene. They're basically offering free entry in the highest level professional competition in the world, something that western Brood War progamers (who couldn't even manage to earn a progaming LICENCE, let alone qualify for anything significant) would have killed for back in the day. We owe them quite a bit actually.

I understand your point of view and appreciate where you are coming from but in my opinion strength of scene comes with the money being invested into the players and events. You can have as many amazing players in korea that you want but if they only have 1 big competition, no upcoming events other than that one and they refuse to be part of the rest of the worlds events then their scene won't grow.

Just because we enjoy watching them doesn't mean they are going to be picking up sponsors outside of korea if they refuse to leave.

Then I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

From everything I've seen by following Korean BW and keeping an eye on some e-sport attempts in the west, I have to say that right now I'm nearly convinced that you can't build e-sports with money. Money, show and sponsorships can come into it when you already have an intense level of competition, passion and following and when you have players demonstrating skill that the audience can really appreciate.

Speaking of sponsors, while I can agree with your statement, have you also considered that without interest and without a sufficiently high level of competition, western sponsors may soon no longer be interested in western tournaments either? Foreign scene does not justify $20k+ prize pool tournaments in the long run.

On the other hand, whether SC2 grows in Korea is mostly up to Korea. They're pretty much an e-sport country (as much as a country can be), so if the game is pushed through the right channels there's plenty of sponsorship money to go around within Korea. It's not the lack of western sponsors that slowed down the growth of SC2 in Korea, it was mostly the internal factors (and Blizzard).

tbh good for the Koreans for sticking to their guns.

Has anyone here auctally tried to caculate the cost of a 1 week trip to cali from seoul and back. its damn expensive. Being almost 3k with hotel and airfare and such. For the chance at $500, which would still lose them $500 if NASL paid 2k.

I can understand why the teams would do this tbh. They are not in a healthy state in Korea and of course they would want people to pay, since they can't temselves.

I can answer this question. We paid for Korean players to come to NASL Season 1. We bought tickets for MC, PuMa, Zenio, and Squirtle. We paid $1,192 for each ticket. The hotel cost was $353 for the entire event. Travel cost was about $80 per person (shuttle service to and from). This averages out about $1650, factoring in meals ($50 per day even) ... giving each player $2,000 should cover that.

$1,192 for a ticket is just one way though, right? Round trip is usually almost $3,000.

So $2,000 wouldn't nearly be enough.

Nope -- $1,192 round trip.

Alright, if it doesn't cost over $2000 why wouldn't NASL agree to pay 100%?

$1000 just isn't enough for 3 nights at a hotel and two international flights. I can't blame the Korean teams here

$2000 guaranteed is more than enough to cover for flights and expenses.

It isn't though. I just looked up a round trip flight over a weekend from Seoul to LA and it's $2100 per person just for the plane tickets

They know it more in advance than that, thus tickets are cheaper, TL manager and NASL already said in this thread that ticket is 1200.

try not buying the ticket at the last minute; there was no reason for this to become a last minute issue.

You expect them to buy tickets for the Finals today, when they haven't even played a single game in pool play yet? I don't think you're very familiar with making travel arrangements in the professional world.

Tickets on Expedia for United Airlines from Seoul to LAX with one stop in Tokyo one month from now cost ~$1100 round trip. Look it up yourself if you want; I used the dates September 7 and returning September 12. Given that they have about a 1-month notice that seems fair. Plus, that's about what NASL *actually* paid to fly the Koreans out last time (posted earlier in the thread).

Funny, using Koreanair.com and the same dates it costs $2100+ to fly round trip from Seoul to LAX but only costs ~$1400 to fly from LAX to Seoul.

Using Kayak.com I get ~$1500 round trip Seoul to LAX. ~$1230 for LAX to Seoul.

Interesting that the costs are significantly different.

I still don't see this as a bad thing. Without this happening we wouldn't have a chance to have foreigner up and comers shine. I mean Koreans are always in the Open Bracket now at MLG. NASL is what they can now go to to be able to shine and gain fans and recognition.

Everyone seems to be "I wanna see high level shit not these sucky foreigners" well then watch the damn GSL/GSTL and MLG. It's all Koreans. Watch streams. Jesus it's not like you have nowhere to watch it.

This is good. It gives foreigners a chance to make a name for themselves.

Don´t know when they are booking and so on, but you CAN get a ticket to LA from Korea for less than 1.000 US-Dollar. I would wonder SO MUCH if they have to pay more than 1.500 US-Dollar for a ticket. Me from Germany, i don´t pay partly so much for an ticket to LA and (if am not an total jerk) not really more near to California than Seoul is.

Disappointing tun of events. Feel sorry for NASL as they tried their best.

That being said, I don´t think people are seeing this through the korean POV.

In NASL season 2 a lot of Koreans qualified(really, to the extent that people were calling NASL S2 GSL lite) so there is a possibility of a Team having to send 2-3 or even more players to the finals which that being planes, food, and accomodation(travelling is not exactly cheap) I can see why some teams can´t afford that.

Sure some of the major stars like MC and MKP could afford to pay for it themeselves but this is more of a team effort by all the koreans so that ¨everybody can go or nobody goes¨ which IMO is reasonable.

I don´t agree with the decision but I can see where they are probably coming from, and if this was GOM or the SC2con not wanting the koreans to participate on other tourneys this would have had happened since day 1.

I mean I don´t like this, but lets be reasonable human beings as i see that the ¨killing e sports¨ card has been thrown already ITT.

of course I could be wrong but at least lets give the koreans the benefit of the doubt. NASL could still do fine by marketing itself as the premier foreign team(as many people apparently want foreigner exclusive tourneys which IMHO is stupid but whatev.).

Hopefully this can be sorted out by the time NASL 3 hits. GL guys
