Are you kidding me I'm really glad NASL handled the situation so well, that was really dirty of the sc2con to make these bullshit claims at the last minute, and then to refuse even with the extreme generosity NASL offered them (I don't understand why people are still saying that NASL wasn't giving enough money when the OP clearly explained that the $2000 was more than enough to cover it). Well, I know I'll still watch this season.

What if individual players within the teams wanted to play and pay their own way? I'm sure someone like Nestea has the funds to play.

I understand making a stand to protect your scene. In fact I think the Korean scene making some sort of a stand is going to be good for everyone in the long run.

However what is going on here with putting players into a qualifier, accepting invites, all with full knowledge of what NASL pays, and then threatening to last minute pull everyone out is just not acceptable behavior. Makes me very sad to see this organization used for these ends. I hope the Korean scene can come to re-think their actions and act differently in future situations.

Yeah...it's exactly like if Thorzain, Jinro, Naniwa and Sase went to Gom studio 2 days ago and said "sorry, you pay us 2000$ each or we don't play and you have no broadcast today, sorry"

Seriously, what the hell with this korean association ?

Not really the same. Since Thorzain, Naniwa and probably SaSe get a trip to Korea and get 1 month of housing from GSL if I am correct.

lol and make the players strive less.. :|

They aren't going to strive if they think they have no chance at the money either. IMO I think this is a good thing, as much as Im dissapointed i dont get to see the top level korean talent, It'd be nice to see foreigners play in a big tournament where they actually have a chance at victory. You can say "they wont try to get better" now, but thats BS because every other big tournament has the korean talent, and the best foreigners are going to be trying to win those as well. We need a foreign tournament where foreigners actually have a good shot at winning to encourage new players to try and go pro, and eventually the pool of foreign talent will grow and get stronger and be able to compete with koreans.

As it is, i still think someone from the remaining korean teams is going to win.

tbh good for the Koreans for sticking to their guns.

Has anyone here auctally tried to caculate the cost of a 1 week trip to cali from seoul and back. its damn expensive. Being almost 3k with hotel and airfare and such. For the chance at $500, which would still lose them $500 if NASL paid 2k.

I can understand why the teams would do this tbh. They are not in a healthy state in Korea and of course they would want people to pay, since they can't temselves.

I can answer this question. We paid for Korean players to come to NASL Season 1. We bought tickets for MC, PuMa, Zenio, and Squirtle. We paid $1,192 for each ticket. The hotel cost was $353 for the entire event. Travel cost was about $80 per person (shuttle service to and from). This averages out about $1650, factoring in meals ($50 per day even) ... giving each player $2,000 should cover that.

Then why not just say to them "we're covering your entire costs," instead of putting a limit on it. Thats rather dumb.

you tell the Koreans that you'll cover 2k. they say to you they want you to cover it all. Well if 2k will cover it then tell them that you'll cover it all.

seems like really poor thinking on NASL's part.

There is some measure of face to keep. NASL should not kowtow to wishes of the Korean teams- it runs its own league, with a damn good prize pool. It should be a mutual interest for participation: the Korean teams get money/fame, and NASL gets revenue off brand name players. However, if NASL goes and pays for every Korean, it seems that the Koreans somehow are more valuable than the tournament itself- that they get their way. So either way, the Koreans probably knew how much money it takes- it would be silly if they came to a decision on an arbitrary number. Therefore, if they knew that 2000$ would cover it, not to mention the fame for the players, the fact the INSISTED on "all expenses paid" was not for more money per se, but a demand for respect or status
Remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

I think you have to consider that Boxer elected not to play in season 2 as well, despite not being part of SC2Con. There must be legitimate reasons not to want to participate under the current system. Not that i blame NASL for it, getting players over here is a real hassle

What if they request business class, or first class? There has to be a limit, otherwise the demands will go unchecked.

Then you say, "you can't upgrade to business class or first class. But we'll cover your travel costs." Was that really the mentality you had when you were negotiating with the Korean teams?

Doesn't make sense, they think that it is to costly to participate, but at the same time they are still attending MLG which has a much smaller prize poll , and no travel stipends, except for the 4 invites.

Some of you are pathetic, you seriously don't have interest in events that don't have Koreans who want to be PAID to play? Fuck that, and fuck them.

Nestea previously indicated he's not interested in playing online leagues outside Korea though, so he wouldn't be participating in the actual season.

Not really. They are missing out on a massive prize pool. The Western esports crowd cares more about player personality and commentators than skill level.

Hm, this sucks.

All of the koreans knew what they were getting into to be honest, and declining this late is just wrong. I mean, if 2k a person doesn't cover the expenses, I can understand that, but that's something they should have considered beforehand.

The other issue is that NASL s2 was shaping up to be a lot more interesting then s1, mainly due to the influx of korean players. Now that they're all out, we're going to end up with night upon night of irrelevant low-level matchups. I want to support (and pay for) NASL, but if it's at 'foreigner' (IPL) level, there's no way in hell I'll pay for it.

(It does explain why Hero switched to TL tho ;p)

So your saying the Koreans wanted champagne and caviar on the plane?

Why not just arrage it yourself. Tell the teams you will have everything ready and will book the flight etc for them.

I highly doubt they will demans business class or first class on the plane. Nor run up the hotel bill on kimchi.

NASL offered them plenty after being pressed, but teams have some responsibility to their own players. It's not up to NASL to cover everything any more than it's up to GSL to import boatloads of westerners to play in qualifiers. You do have to risk something. But under NASL's arrangement, it looked like they would have risked hardly anything to play.

It was said in the thread several times now that 2k$ are actually just enough for the travel... So I really don't get it.

Especially making it a last minute decision like that, it has been known from before season 1 that the players/teams must guarantee to be able to commit to the grand finals in case of a qualification. :|
