What are you talking about? I'm managing Team Liquid and I can tell you that the planetickets cost around 1200 $ for a return ticket. Hotel during the event wouldn't be more than 400$ and then you can eat and drink for less than 50$ a day. What's the problem here? 2000 $ is more than sufficient to cover all costs.
This sounds awfully suspicious then...maybe GSL feels threatened by NASL?

I could never watch due to time constraints, but I still support the league. I feel bad for NASL... keep it up tho, can't expect the start of anything to be easy!

you forget that MLG and GSL are partners while NASL is a business rival with the head of GSL negotiating with NASL its hardly suprising an agreement couldnt be made.

really would like to hear the korean teams' side of this. Not to blame the OP, NASL representatives have every responsibility to defend their organization, but the story does sound like 'we gave them everything they wanted and they still said no.'

This seems to be a calculated maneuver from this random.... SC2Con? Come on Koreans, get rid of this phony ass hierarchy. Seems that the Puma drama lingered and was attached to the NASL. Too bad that group, whatever they want to call themselves, are hurting the community and viewers. Not like they care though, this probably had almost no splash in the Korean community, and if any a positive one I would assume... I hope someone will prove me wrong.
edit: I have a funny thought. What if there was some ridiculous NASC2Condurp run by Alex Garfield from EG. Imagine him trying to pull this shit. There would be blood.

Well, this basicly make NASL a more expensive, less quality IPL, because the player pool is the same with no koreans. :/
|
Very stupid move from SC2con, is it possible that GSL feels threatened by NASL and they want koreans to exclusively play at MLGs?
Hey atleast the NASL might live up to its name

Only 2 koreans are coming besides the invites. And Rain is on a foreigner team.

I think a lot of people are missing that they agreed to NASL's terms up front, and then asked for changes to them at the last minute.
Any discussion about how good those initial terms were seems beside the point to me. If they had signed a normal business contract, NASL would be well within their rights to sue the pants off these guys.
Could you imagine what would happen if the NFL players union got together and suddenly said "we're not playing unless you do X. We don't care what we already agreed to."
|
That's too bad but I can understand why both sides did what they did. Hope this doesn't create any bad blood between SC2Con and NASL.
Still looking forward to season 2 :D:D

I wonder if this has anything to do with MLG/GSL partnership in some way.. Anyway, it is sad to hear this. It feels like a small setback, the korean and foreign scene has seen some great things recently. Koreans joining foreign teams, FXO, F.United etc.. So hopefully this brings korean players and teams closer to foreign players and teams, so players dont have to worry about not beeing allowed to play in tournaments..
And ofc, hopefully this doesnt affect NASL to much.. GL to them! ♥

I really don't care that much tbh. Maybe I'm just sick of learning all their names though. :/

I'm afraid the Koreans were put off by the way the Grand Finals were played out (my own speculations). One bo3 and you are out. I can understand the Koreans withdrawing from NASL due to travelling expenses. Sad for NASL but the costs and work you put in during the regular season just to get eliminated for a bo3, well NASL only got themselves to blame for that I'm afraid.

FXOs don't really count as they are on a foreigner team with much better finances. DRG is getting his trip paid for by Complexity.
So no, the Koreans aren't actually paying to go to MLG.

InControl is a great marker of how things are doing, and how they will be in the future. I'm sure his spidey sense was tingling when he "decided" to leave. The fact that NASL was so paranoid about disclosing their "private" investor, only makes me believe that it's some weird John Malkovich moment in SC2.
The game is getting too big for its own good, right now.

3 koreans that we know of so far: DRG, choya and thebest

Admit all of this exploding controversy and discussion of Kespa 2 or whoever the poster after me blames for this I'd like to highlight what I think is important.
I support the NASL. I didn't really like the last season. I didn't even watch all of the final 16. There was a lot of room for improvement.
But last minute renegotiation over travel prices is unreasonable. The Koreans that will not participate I will miss but-
The NASL will still be good. Koreans are not a prereq for a tournament. Even though they bring the top skill wherever they go, it is not gold league compared to grandmaster. The NASL season 2 will still be highly entertaining and I am grateful for the streams.
|
Sad news I was planning on buying a ticket for season 2 but now I don't think that'll be worth the cost. Just look at the NASL playoffs, korean games were the most fascinating and intense.

no one wants to see low level starcraft2. =( 65000 watched the bnet EU invitational... It got boosted only because of WoW fans.
Well, considering there was barely any WoW at all I find this hard to believe. Sure, there was WoW fans, but do they really account for such a large portion of 65k that there were very few people actually there to see SC2? No, doesn't make any sense.
Also, saying the EU scene is "low level" is silly.

Korean Air Lines been sponsoring Brood War leagues left and right, couldnt they get into some kind of agreement to fly Korean players to foreign event, or is BW still really the s#&t over there? I mean, we see BW players sporting sponsor badges such as Fila, Head, K-Swiss etc etc... these companies rack millions a year, meanwhile, Prime is sponsored by a korean BBQ restaurant (Saba Saba). Now with SC2 we have an AWESOME foreign scene, which gives sponsors a window to the world for cheap advertisement (trust me, a 1min ad on TV, once a day for 3 months, is more expensive than sponsoring a team's traveling fees for 12 months) so either Koreans are too proud of what e-Sports is over there with the success SC:BW had (*cough* still has, i see bigger crowds in MSL OSL and SPL then at GSL's Code S ro8) or they are just blind and dont realize whats happening in e-sports outside Korea.
Bottom Line: we need more Businesses like FXOpen to create an e-Sports team under their name (SKT for example in BW) and spoil players with sponsorships and nice contracts. I highly respect FXO for this since they jumped in the Korean scene, explored, proposed, and benefits came to both parties (players and administration of both teams)
